Far as 'what if' and Dave singing over Van Hagar music, how are you gonna ever know if it would have sounded 'better' if Dave sang over it? Dave's not gonna write lyrics like that to begin with, and he doesn't phrase his singing like Hagar.

First off, if Roth was given the MUSIC to Humans Being, it would come out to be quite different than Van Hagar's version.
Dave would never write a chorus that would say "Shine On, Shine On.."

Humans Being is one of the better Van Hagar songs..."better" doesn't mean great, just means better than let's say "Love comes walking in" -get the point?
The problem with your question as I see it is this: Dave didn't take a packaged piece of music like Sammy does and add lyrics, Dave changed stuff around and helped structure songs...
The reason VH was SO great was because of Dave...
Ed may have been a great guitar player at one time, but Dave is the reason that songs were great...
No other way to explain the abysmal shit that Van Hagar spewed upon the rock world....
So the twofold answer to your question: (1) Does "Humans Being" kick ass? Yes, if it is compared to "Message in a bottle". Absolutely not when compared to the 6 pack.
(2) What would it have sounded like if Dave sang it? Not like it sounded with Sammy...

"Humans Being" is a good tune.
I actually thought the "Shine On... Shine On..." portion sounds more like something DLR might do. Reminds me of "You can try me at home, if it feels all right."
Some of my fave songs are ones written when band members are pissed off. I think Humans Being is such a song. Never enough tension in Van Hagar.
