    Deep Throats and Stolen Votes
    June 3, 2005

Ironically this week, Mark Felt, former Deputy Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, revealed that he was Watergate's "Deep Throat" and perhaps the most famous whistle-blower in our nation's history, but the embattled Deputy Director of the Hocking County Board of Elections (BOE) Sherole Eaton, Ohio's most well-known whistle-blower, may be fired for courageous attempt to expose alleged election tampering.

Eaton suggests that there are many potential Deep Throats throughout the Buckeye State: “…There are staff on other boards that would not come forward with things, and they have shared things with me. They were afraid they’d lose their jobs,” she told the Free Press.

The Executive Committee of the Hocking County Democratic Party met behind closed doors at a Logan, Ohio senior center on Thursday, May 26 to discuss the forced resignation of Eaton by the Hocking County BOE. Sources within the Democratic Party told the Free Press that a majority of the Executive Committee members were backers of Eaton and confronted Democratic BOE members Gerald Robinette and Susan Hughes who had voted to fire Eaton.

Eaton made national news during the Ohio presidential recount when she swore in an affidavit that Michael Barbarian, a Triad technician, had removed a hard drive from the BOE’s main vote tabulator and replaced it with another. She further alleged that Barbarian offered a “cheat sheet” so that the computer tally would match a small random hand count of votes. Under Ohio law, if 3% of the votes match the certified total, the remaining 97% of the votes do not have to be hand recounted.

Eaton claimed that she suspected that Barbarian was doing this in other counties as well. Triad is responsible for counting 41 of Ohio’s 88 counties.

“Bottom line is, it was against the law for him to come in there and take the hard drive off. We had not even had the official count yet and he had the hard drive off with all the votes on it,” Eaton explained.

Regina Prater, the Chairperson of the Hocking County Democratic Party, refused to comment on what went on during the Executive Committee meeting, but she did tell the Free Press, “Susan Hughes is going to see the Secretary of State and I’m going to make an appointment to try to get ahold of the Attorney General and have an appointment with him. We’ll have another meeting June the 9th and this will come to a head.”

Ohio law provides that all members of the Board of Elections are appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the Ohio Secretary of State. Tradition allows the county Democratic and Republican Parties to appoint or approve board members. Ohio Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell, the co-chair of the 2004 Bush-Cheney re-election campaign in Ohio, has argued that the bi-partisan nature of the board of elections helps prevent election fraud.

In emails obtained by the Free Press, Democrats are alleging that Hughes bypassed the Democratic Party and appointed herself to the Hocking County BOE with the acquiescence of Blackwell. Hughes seconded the motion to fire Eaton.

The Free Press has learned that a majority of Democratic Executive Board members plan to remove Robinette and Hughes as Democratic BOE members. This may well provoke a crisis and answer the question of who really controls the paying positions on the Ohio Boards of Elections.

In October, Blackwell threatened to fire any BOE officials who did not follow his often controversial and contradictory directives concerning voter registration and vote counting in Ohio. Eaton was the only BOE official to publicly blow the whistle on recount irregularities.

“I got nothing but praise during the election and after the election. The chairman of the board [Robinette] stood up at a Democratic meeting twice and said what a wonderful job the Board of Elections did through the election . . . Now he’s saying, after the Triad thing, …he told the chairman of the Democratic Party, Regina Prater, I am not a team worker and therefore I should not be in that office any longer,” Eaton said.

Eaton, a 65-year-old widow who is scheduled for brain surgery on June 6, arrived at the May 26 Hocking County meeting and was greeted by a group of supporters. She told the Free Press, “I just feel really good in that I’m surrounded by good people, and that they want our democracy back. To get the fair votes, fair election officials, fair board members, just fair people that will come out and speak the truth.”

Rush Guitarist Sues Over Florida Hotel Altercation
    06.03.2005 9:11 AM EDT

Lawsuit names three sheriff's deputies for illegal arrest, excessive force.
Less than two months after accepting a plea bargain that spared him a possible 10-year prison term, Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson has gone on the offensive.

On Thursday, attorneys for Lifeson (born Alex Zivojinovich) filed a lawsuit in U.S.

District Court in Fort Myers, Florida, against three Collier County sheriff's deputies, claiming they'd used excessive force when arresting him following a New Year's Eve 2003 altercation at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel restaurant in Naples, Florida, according to a report by The Associated Press.

The suit — which seeks unspecified monetary damages for injuries, pain and suffering, mental anguish and the legal defense fees — additionally names Lifeson's son Justin and daughter-in-law Michelle as plaintiffs, while the hotel and its director of security were also listed as defendants.

Lifeson was celebrating the advent of 2004 with relatives and friends at the hotel when the incident occurred (see "Rush Guitarist Considers Suit Alleging Police Brutality"). Lifeson's son and some of his friends riled the hotel's security staff when they climbed onto a performance platform, where the house band was taking a break, the AP reports. Security called deputies in to escort Justin from the premises, and "applied illegal and unjustified force, and such force was excessive, causing plaintiff Justin severe discomfort and pain."

When Alex Lifeson tried to intervene, police broke his nose and zapped him four times with a stun gun. A Taser gun was also used to subdue Lifeson's son. The suit also alleges Michelle Zivojinovich was arrested illegally, after complaining about the excessive force used against her husband.

According to Lifeson's arrest report, the Canadian guitarist shoved a female officer down a stairwell — a charge he's denied — and spat blood in another officer's face. Lifeson, who was described in police documents as being "extremely intoxicated" and "extremely violent" at the time of the melee, spent two days in jail, on charges of aggravated battery on a law-enforcement officer, resisting arrest and disorderly intoxication.

On April 21, Lifeson and his son accepted plea agreements, calling for them to each plead to a single misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest without violence. Both were sentenced to a probationary period of one year, and ordered to pay court costs, according to the AP. A charge against Lifeson's daughter-in-law — resisting arrest without violence — was dropped on April 11.

Don't know about who the Dems will run in '08, but the arrogance of the current administration and the way the GOP swings their mighty sword of dominance will be their ultimate downfall (and it could haunt them for awhile).

Kerry had his chance, nuff said....

It's not about just being mellow, and I do support the kick-ass mentality in moderation, but this administration is paranoid, greedy, and out of control.

Note: Greedy is a term used by someone to describe others when he is not getting his share.

Yeah, the administration is making untold fortunes for people who are 'connected', but alas I have never been so, probably never will be, so I criticize. If I was in the middle of the cash flow, with pockets in the open position, I would be extoling the virtues of Bush from the tallest mountain.

Biden, closer to running, blasts Bush
    Aug 29, 2005, 0:00 GMT

WASHINGTON, DC, United States (UPI) -- Borrowing a phrase from former Secretary of State Colin Powell, U.S. Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., offered his take Sunday on fixing the "broken pottery" in Iraq.

In an appearance on ABC`s "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" -- during which Biden said he was "closer" to declaring his candidacy for president -- he again called for the firing of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld as the first step in fixing the "pottery." Biden sharply criticized President Bush for not considering alternative plans in Iraq.

Addressing the president directly, Biden said: "The way to fix it is, first, get rid of Rumsfeld, so that the rest of the world will have some confidence and be willing to join us in any way politically or economically. Secondly, lay out specific terms, as to how many Iraqis you have train, when you are training them ... and when you expect to be able to draw down American forces."

OK, first of all, I support firing Rumsfeld's ass...mucho pronto.

Second...I think it would be quite interesting to have Biden declare this early in the race.

It would have someone for Warham and I to insult and it would also lead, I feel, to other candidates declaring as well. Seriously, I probably wouldn't even insult the guy. I'm going to give him as much consideration for 2008 as everyone else.....except Hillary.

    Joseph Biden's Plagiarism; Michael Dukakis's 'Attack Video' – 1988

Feeding Frenzy Democratic presidential candidate Joseph R. Biden Jr., a U.S. senator from Delaware, was driven from the nomination battle after delivering, without attribution, passages from a speech by British Labor party leader Neil Kinnock. A barrage of subsidiary revelations by the press also contributed to Biden's withdrawal: a serious plagiarism incident involving Biden during his law school years; the senator's boastful exaggerations of his academic record at a New Hampshire campaign event; and the discovery of other quotations in Biden's speeches pilfered from past Democratic politicians.

The controversy became two frenzies in one when it was disclosed that the campaign of Massachusetts Gov. Michael S. Dukakis had earlier secretly distributed to several news media outlets an "attack video" juxtaposing the Biden and Kinnock speeches and revealing Biden's word theft. The Dukakis campaign at first stonewalled and denied any part in the tape's distribution, but when the truth emerged Dukakis was forced to fire his campaign manager, John Sasso, and political director, Paul Tully – the two who had orchestrated the maneuver. Dukakis himself insisted he had no prior knowledge of their actions, and though wounded, his candidacy survived the incident.

    Biden is a real asshole.

The fault for that likely lies with Biden's speechwriters, not Biden himself. In any event, it's almost 20 years ago.

Biden would be a strong candidate IMO.

Interesting.... I wonder if Biden was in on the sabotage of Gary Hart as well.

From Biden's pathetic ramblings yesterday on ABC, it's obvious he still hates Gary Hart almost 20 years later.

    Senator Biden's Tale

Plagiarism charges are a staple of entertainment news, of literary litigation, and of academic scandal. The issue of plagiarism seemed to hit a modern high point, however, with Senator Joseph Biden's rather free use of language from a speech by British politician Neil Kinnock. Biden began a speech in Iowa by saying

I was thinking as I was coming over here, why is it that Joe Biden is the first in his family ever to go to a university? Why is it that my wife who is sitting out there in the audience is the first in her family to ever go to college? Is it because our fathers and mothers were not bright? Is it because I'm the first Biden in a thousand generations to get a college and a graduate degree that I was smarter than the rest? .... Those same people who read poetry and wrote poetry and taught me to sing verse? Is it that they didn't work very hard, my ancestors who worked in the coal mines of Northeast Pennsylvania and would come up after 12 hours and play football for four hours?

These lines were very close to those of British Labor Party politician Neil Kinnock, who had said:

Why am I the first Kinnock in a thousand generations to be able to get to University? Why is Glenys [Kinnock's wife] the first woman in her family in a thousand generations to get to university? Was it because all our predecessors were thick?. . . Those people who could sing and play and recite and write poetry? Those people who could make wonderful, beautiful things with their hands? Those people who could dream dreams, see visions? Why didn't they get it? Was it because they were weak? Those people who could work eight hours underground and then come up and play football?

Although Biden at first said that he saw nothing wrong with his use of Kinnock's phrases, the scandal forced him to withdraw from the 1988 Presidential race shortly thereafter.

Biden is part of the problem in the US. Maybe a Biden/Durbin ticket.

You will also need a back up in case my "misdemeanor convictions" are made public.

Public Drunkeness and leaving the scene of single car accidents [where DID that tree come from???] may be an issue.

For the record, ALL felony charges were dropped.

    So much for your [I]

If your ticket is going to get in bed with the party of KKKarl Rove, I may just have to leak your involvement with that certain "farm" in Enumclaw, counselor.

    Got it?

    Horseshit.

At least I've never been found drunk lying under a golf cart on the 15th hole at Inglewood. With my pants down.

And I wouldn't be mentioning "horseshit" if I were you, counselor.

And before you swing this thing to BBB/Warham, remember we'll be needing an Attorney General.

    Don't burn any bridges.

You're both forgetting my pictures of you 2 together. They'll feed conspiracy theories on message boards for years.

You should give Phil ParlocKKK a call. I heard that he freelances between election years when the BCE doesn't need him.
