A fascinating & genuine Fender Stratocaster from March 1965 which was hand picked at Manny’s music store in NYC by Jimi himself in 1966 & used by him until 1969. Jimi took the guitar across the Atlantic for his now legendary arrival on European shores ready to turn the music world & guitar playing in general on its head.

Firstly, a few details about the current ownership. With a high dollar auction like this you need to know who you are dealing with. The guitar is co-owned by two individuals, Phil Winfield of “Maverick International Inc.” www.maverick-music.com & Melvyn Franks of “Swiss Supply Direct Inc.” www.swisssupply.com , between them, over 70 years experience in the music industry & both with huge experience in ultra high dollar transactions, (just check out the websites for proof of this), Melvyn & Phil have known each other & have been doing business together since a very early guitar transaction way back in 1978. Melvyn’s company “Aardvark Music” sold Phil’s company “Winfield Music” a really nice Gibson Les Paul Custom (not much money in those days)

A genuine Jim Hendrix owned guitar does not come along every day, when they do, obviously, they command a very high price. This guitar is not the only “Artist” owned guitar that we have. It is one of many high value guitars that forms one of the most valued & valid guitar collections in the world, Jimi’s guitar has been stored in good company, we also have two of George Harrison’s Zemaitis guitars (one of them a small bodied acoustic/uke) which is the only George Harrison Zemaitis acoustic in private ownership outside the Harrison estate) We also have two Keith Richards guitars!!!!!!!!!!! We’re letting you know this so that you are aware that we haven’t just sprung up out of nowhere with Jimi’s guitar!

The guitar is a remarkable piece of Rock & Roll history. It is exhaustively documented, with both written and photographic evidence. As stated earlier, Jimi purchased this guitar in NYC in 1966 SN L68290. We have signed & notarized witness statements from individuals within Jimi’s management, that the guitar was played on stage in London, Hamburg, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Winterland & Monterey. It was also for recording sessions with the BBC. It was also used extensively at Olympic Studios in London & for the sessions for “Electric Lady Land.” Jimi used the guitar both on “Foxy Lady” & “ Hey Joe.”

In 1968 Jimi had begun smashing the guitar into his microphone stand. After a few months of this abuse, the tremelo arm gave up the fight & broke leaving the threaded end still in the guitar where it remains to this day, the guitar was shipped back to Jimi’s Manager at Electric Lady studios for repair, it never was repaired & the guitar is exactly how Jimi left it, the damage is again documented & notarized. You can also see the damage in the image provided, the fracture line is exactly as on the guitar & would be impossible to replicate. The broken tremolo arm is still in the original guitar case !!!!! The guitar also has various areas of microphone stand damage, dents, grazes etc. There are areas of missing finish around the edge of the body, some had been “blacked in” with a marker pen back in the late 60’s, but it is entirely possible to match the damage on the guitar to the damage seen in the images.

We have a signed certificate of authenticity from Jimi’s management at “Electric Lady Studios” NYC.

We have a “California All Purpose Acknowledgment” signed & notarized to say that all statements & documents are correct.

We will not fax or email images of the documentation until the transaction is complete. We cannot under any circumstances release the documentation without prior full payment. Of course, the documentation is available for an “in person” inspection at any time during the auction.

If you check the recorded auction results for the most recent sales figures for Jimi Hendrix owned instruments you will see that the results are in the $800.000.00 to $1000.000.00 region, our valuation is therefore very realistic

Guitar Build Details; all correct components, original pickups all dated June 65, correct pot codes, July 65 neck stamp, no internal modifications whatsoever, original factory Sunburst finish, some marker pen touch ups to the black areas of the finish as mentioned earlier,

It plays superbly, sounds totally excellent & it definitely sends a shiver down your spine just to hold the guitar

Feel free to contact me with any questions, it’s a serious auction for a piece of rock & roll history so please only bid if you are serious about completing the transaction, IMPORTANT, the guitar will be on display at the Great American Guitar Show, at the Fort Washing ton Expo center JUNE 25th & 26th full details for the shows location can be found at www.bee3vintage.com, please bear in mind that questions submitted via email & telephone will not be answered until I return from the show on Monday 27th, please visit the show, whether you are interested in buying the guitar or not it’s an excellent chance for a super guitar weekend & a chance to get a real good close up of the Fender Strat that took Jimi across the Atlantic for his European breakthrough, SHIPPING QUOTE ON RECEIPT OF YOUR ZIP/ADDRESS, INSURANCE TO BE ORGANIZED AT THE END OF SALE/PERSONAL COLLECTION IS FINE/NO CREDIT CARD OR PAYPAL PAYMENTS, WIRE TRANSFER ONLY FROM OVERSEAS, Thank you

I'm saying that Paul Allen ends up buying it. . .he bought Clapton's "Brownie" Strat that he used for Layla for around $450,000 and he's an even bigger Jimi fan. God know he has the $$$ to throw around for anything he wants

BTW, anyone have an idea on how much a Strat of that era (not owned by anyone famous) in decent condition is worth?

Not too much, for the condition of that Strat (it's somewhat beat up in places) anywhere from $6,800 to $10,200.

I have a 1962 Telecaster (with the original case) that's somewhat beat up and I've been offered up to $3,200 for it due to the shitty state that guitar is in.

It's really more about the condition of the guitar rather than its age in most cases. If you can find a 1965 or lower Strat in excellent (mint) condition (very rare) they can go anywhere from $15,000 up to $25-30,000 depending upon if it comes with the original case in just as good condition, and the pickups, wiring and switches are all original.

I saw a 1958 Telecaster at a guitar show here in Gnashville a couple of years ago. Had the original case, original sales receipt and the price tag was still haning off the headstock. It was in very good shape, and the guy wanted $6,000 for it.

Check out this Strat that was made in May of 1954 (one of the first months of production). It is for sale at Gruhn's Guitars in Gnashville right now for $40,000
