Queen are biggest act in UKs history

Queen have beaten The Beatles to become the most successful music act in UK album chart history, according to Guinness World Records.
The band - whose first self-titled album debuted in 1973 - have spent 1,322 weeks on the chart.

It is the first time Queen have overtaken the Fab Four in the chart, which is compiled by the Book of British Hit Singles and Albums.

Madonna, in seventh place, was the highest female artist in the list.

'TOP 10 UK ALBUMS CHART OF ALL TIME'

    1. Queen (1,322 weeks)
    2. The Beatles (1,293 weeks)
    3. Elvis Presley (1,280 weeks)
    4. U2 (1,150 weeks)
    5. Dire Straits (1,136 weeks)
    6. Simon and Garfunkel (1,114 weeks)
    7. Madonna (1,032 weeks)
    8. David Bowie (1,005 weeks)
    9. Elton John (989 weeks)
    10. Michael Jackson (966 weeks)
    Source: Guinness World Records

Queen, whose albums include A Kind of Magic, The Miracle and A Night At The Oprea, have spent 29 weeks more in the chart than the Beatles.

Elvis Presley, who earlier this year was named the most successful music act of all time by the British Hit Singles and Albums, was at number three in the album chart.

David Roberts, editor of the book of British Hit Singles and Albums, said: "Given that Queen's chart career has been much shorter than those of The Beatles and Elvis, this is an incredible achievement.

"They've long been written about with reverence in the pages of our book, and this just serves to cement their legendary status."

I would take Elton John and David Bowie over Queen any day of the week, Elton's 70's material is unparalleled and Bowie's work over time is exceptional. I like Queen, but compared to those 2, no way....

    Elton... Really?

I'm glad to see Dire Straits there, they are supremely swish!

I don`t think those records will ever be beaten as the British charts are now a joke.

Also the shit music people are force-fed in this country sucks.

However, most of the record buyers are too lazy to go out and try something other than the techno/pop/blaxploitation pop they are brainwashed with.

To think Britain once ruled the music world.

Totally agree. Its the record companies who ruined this shit, there are plaenty of great bands out there, but they aren't getting the exposure, because none of the major record companies are picking them up, they are all concentrating on DJs who take, for example, Yes' 'Owner of a Lonely Heart', put a different drum beat behind it, change the order of the verse's a bit, and then think they have the right to call it DJ Big-Headed Untalented Twat Vs Yes. Who the fuck but HIS name first? What the fuck did he write? Its either that or fucking some manufactured piece of shit who came 2nd in Pop Idol or fucking X-Factor.

The indie bands are a piece of shite, as well. I remember people being all over-hyped over Keane, saying "Its amazing, they're a rock band, but they haven't got a guitarist, its revolutionary, its never been done before". Oh, really? try listening to one of the millions upon millions of records that Emerson, Lake and Palmer sold, twatbag. Can you imagine Keane writing 'Tarkus' or 'Pirates'? Can you imagine fucking Razorlight writing something like 'Bohemian Rhapsody' or 'March of the Black Queen'?

    I didn't think so.

    Bowie did some good stuff...

But Elton John? Nah, never even came close to Queen (not even post The Game Queen) in my book.
