    Megadeth

this is my tribute thread honouring the greatest speed and thrash metal band around.MEGADETH.they were formed Out of Dave Mustaines hatred of his former band Metallica, Mustaine formed Megadeth. One of the very early Megadeth line-ups featured Kerry King of Slayer. In some of the first Megadeth shows, Mustaine would blame and whine about Metallica, and justly so,Metallica screwed Mystaine over and over, but look who's laughing now James

In 1985, Megadeth made their first album, Killing Is My Business.. And Business Is Good. The production of this album was terrible, but otherwise it was a great album. This was the first album with the bands mascot, Vic Rattlehead. The line-up was:

    Dave Mustaine-lead guitar, vocals

    Dave Elferson-bass

    Chris Poland-lead guitar

    Gar Samualson-drums

In 1986, with the same lineup, Megadeth made Peace Sells, But Who's Buying. This was an instant classic. Vic appeared on this album.

with the same lineup, Megadeth made Peace Sells, But Who's Buying. This was an instant classic. Vic was also featured on this album.

In 1988, Chris Poland and Gar Samualson were replaced by Jeff Young, lead guitar, and Chuck Behler, drums. This lineup made So Far, So Good, So What! This was a great album but not as good as Peace Sells.

In 1990, Mustaine replaced Young and Behler with Marty Friedman, lead guitar, and Nick Menza, drums. With this lineup, they made one of the greatest thrash albums of all time, Rust In Peace (which is my fav megadeth album).

In 1992, with the same lineup, the band made Countdown To Extinction. This album got Megadeth the most attention they would ever have. It entered the charts at Number 2. This was the first album that Vic was not on. He would not appear until 2001.

In 1994, with the same line-up, they made Youthanasia. The album cover was banned in over 6 countries.

In 1997, the band made Cryptic Writings. This was the album that ventured very far from their roots. It had some grunge influnce in it. This was the last album with Nick Menza on the drums.this album is very unpopular amongst many true megadeth fans.

In 1999, the band, with new drummer, Jimmy Degrasso, made Risk. This was a very commercial album(it features my second fav megadeth track crush 'em). It was a made for radio album. It made many fans desert Megadeth. This was the last album with Marty Friedman. He chose to go to Japan and pursue his carreer in pop music. He didn't want to do heavy music anymore.

In 2001, with new guitarist Al Pitrilli, the band made, The World Needs A Hero. This album was very heavy unlike Risk. The band also released a DVD in the same year, Rude Awakning. Vic made his comeback this year.

Later in the year, Dave Mustaine entered rehab for drug and alcohal abuse. While asleep in a chair, he injured nerves in his hand. Doctors told him that he would never play the guitar again. Mustaine then disbanded Megadeth. After almost 15 years megadeth was gone.

In 2004, after much physical theorpy from his wrist, Mustaine returned with a new Megadeth album, The System Has Failed. This was the first album without David Elferson on the bass. The people who recorded this album with Mustaine were Jimmy Sloas on bass, Vinnie Colaiuta on drums, and former Megadeth guitarist Chris Poland contributed solos on the record. Many people say this in not Megadeth because none of the origional members are there. Mustaine responded with, "It sounds like Megadeth, it is Megadeth." Vic was on this album.

Megadeth toured for this album in the fall(i was there) . The line-up was:

    Dave Mustaine-vocals, lead guitar

Nick Menza will return to drums

    Glen Drover-lead guitar (ex-King Diomand)

    James Macenough-bass (ex-Iced-Earth)

Mustaine wrote almost all of the songs for the bandand has been the band's leader for the past 20 years. He has made a film appearance in the Metallica movie, Some Kind Of Monster(where metallica screwed him yet again with clever editing jobs). He had his own signiture line of guitars from both Jackson and currently has a signiture series from ESP guitars. Marty Friedman also had a signiture from Jackson, and is currently working on a signiture serioes from Ibanez.

Over the past 20 years, Megadeth has been one of the most successful bands on the thrash metal scene.they have been through some tough times and through some shit but the bottom line is this...

Dave Mustaine and Megadeth aren't going anywhere soon.

I like them better than Metallica but they get old real quick with me. The same for Slayer, Iron Maiden and any other speed metal...small doses go a LONG way!

As far as i know ellefson quit megadeth because Dave Mustaine called him up one day and said he was quitting.ellefson was always the second in command in megadeth and it was thanks to him that they made it through the tough times. But i think he just thought he could either sit there and rot away(in a megadeth without Mustaine) or he can become proactive with his own life and move on....he chose the latter of the two

    Mustaine in Metallica

In 1981, he left the band Panic to join Metallica, serving as lead guitarist for the band for two years.the story as i heard it goes, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich had posted an ad in the local newspapers for a lead guitarist. Mustaine arrived, set up his amp's and started his sound check. So impressed were they with his sound check, that they immediately asked him to join them without even asking for a demo tape or jamming with him

In April of 1983, Mustaine was fired for his drug use and personality clashes with members Ulrich and James Hetfield, who had resolved to keep Metallica as a 'clean' band. It is said that tensions were especially high between Hetfield and Mustaine, and they both have made public comments that the arrangement was not an effective one.

    The Birth Of Megadeth

Mustaine returned to Los Angeles after leaving Metallica and formed his own thrash band, Megadeth, with bassist David Ellefson. Mustaine wrote almost all the band's music (he would continue to do so for the rest of his career), including a few songs that featured guitar riffs he had developed during his time with Metallica. Metallica, meanwhile, had reworked some of Mustaine's riffs into their own songs, yielding pairs like "Mechanix"/"The Four Horsemen" and "Hangar 18"/"The Call of Ktulu"(hangar 18 is better). Megadeth's popularity in the San Francisco Bay Area grew, but Mustaine's drug problems got worse as he became addicted to heroin.

The Jackson Dave Mustaine series King VAfter recording the first Megadeth album (Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good!), Mustaine approached Jackson Guitars for a custom built guitar. Jackson built him a modified Randy Rhoads series King V with 24 frets. After creating the guitar for Mustaine, the company began mass-producing a Dave Mustaine series flying V. This line continued into the early 2000s, when Mustaine switched to ESP guitars.

In 1988, Mustaine co-produced the album Refuge Denied for the band Sanctuary.

After an impaired driving arrest in 1990, Mustaine entered a twelve-step program. He has struggled managing his addiction, reportedly having 16 or 17 relapses resulting in additional treatment. Mustaine admitted his ongoing struggles in a Megadeth version of Behind the Music. He married Pamela Anne Casselberry in 1991, and became a father in 1992. Also in 1992, he served as a correspondent for MTV News to the 1992 Democratic National Convention.

The band continued to release successful records on a regular schedule, even as it went through repeated turnover in musicians. Mustaine also collaborated on several projects with other musicians, including the MD.45 project with Lee Ving of Fear.

    Dave Mustaine's Feuds

Beside his work with Metallica and Megadeth, Mustaine has been known to have many feuds within the music industry.

The most well-known of these is his feud with Metallica, most notably with drummer Lars Ulrich. Mustaine claims to have written several Metallica songs, most notably "Leper Messiah." Metallica refuses to recognise this. Many Megadeth fans believe that "Master of Puppets" was Mustaine's work and that Metallica "stole" it. In 2004, the Mustaine-Metallica feud re-ignited when footage of Mustaine was used in the film Some Kind of Monster without Mustaine's approval. In an interview with Metal Maniacs magazine, Mustaine called Lars Ulrich a "treacherous little man".

Mustaine also had a feud with MTV's Rikki Rachtman on Headbangers Ball. Rachtman stated on air that he would like to settle his differences with Mustaine and move on. Mustaine eventually cleared things up stating that, in reality, he really liked Rachtman.

Mustaine has a long-standing feud with Slayer guitarist Kerry King.

Recently, being a born again Christian Mustaine feels that he cannot play on the same festival that bands with opposing, satanic, views on life.he has forced Dissection off a festival in Israel and refused to play with Rotting Christ.
