Thumbs down Bush Denies Iraq Election Fixing

Bush denies he influenced Iraq elections:-
    WASHINGTON | July 17, 2005 6:11:23 PM IST

Bush administration officials say they drew up but did not proceed with a plan to influence the January elections in Iraq.

The New York Times reports that the National Security Council issued a statement Saturday denying the charge that the government helped candidates they favored.

An article in the next issue of The New Yorker reports that the White House decided to go ahead with the plan despite Congressional outcry.

The Bush Administration disputes the story by Seymour Hersh, saying the final decision was to not influence the election.

Hersh's sources are unnamed former military and intelligence officials.

The hypocrisy of the Bushies calling Iran's election fraudulent cracked me up.

Of course we've interferred, many times. As recently as Afghanistan.

But THIS one should have been different for such obvious reason even I shouldnt need to spell it out for you

Bush had approved plan to 'influence' Iraq polls

    Press Trust of India
Posted online: Sunday, July 17, 2005 at 1825 hours IST

Washington, July 17: US President George W. Bush had approved a plan to provide covert support to certain candidates and political parties in the run up to Iraq polls but dropped it because of Congressional opposition, US officials have said.

Current and former government officials said Bush had initially approved the plan but the White House met objections as it notified Congressional leaders, as required by law, The New York Times reported on Sunday.

After considerable debate, the President's National Security Team recommended that he sign a secret, formal authorisation for covert action to influence the election, they said adding Bush either had already signed it or was about to when objections were raised in Congress.

"There were concerns about efforts by outsiders to infuence the outcome of Iraqi elections, including money flowing in from Iran. This raised concerns whether there would be a level playing field in the elections," National Security Council spokesman Frederick Jones said.

The fact that gamemanship (such as calling Iran's a fraud) and the "plan" here should not come as a suprise to you. It is what ALL presidents do and I shouldn't have to spell that out to you..
