“Why do people say "grow some balls"? Balls are weak and sensitive. If you wanna be tough, grow a vagina. Those things can take a pounding” ― Betty White
Edie (Ciao Baby) - The Cult.
No question, this song has layers, crunching guitars, sweeping strings and Ian Astbury powering above it all. Magik!!!
POWER BALLAD is the most overused term in ROCK.
"ONE"...a "power Ballad"?!?!WTF?!?!

Indeed.
Dance the night away?
Why, oh why do parents feed paint chips to children?
IMO, you should have your music listening priveldges revoked for even using the term "power ballad"
But at least know what the FUCK you're talking about
Gee, my favorite power ballad would have to be Sugar Sugar by the Archies
The Finaaaaal Countdowwwn
The name Sammy Hagar conjures up a variety of emotions from music fans--from hate to contempt, from disgust to revulsion.

Its a desperation point a band hits when they think they need a breather during a concert and nothing more.

Nothing more?
It's called airplay.
It's called publishing
It's called royalties
The drum solo is for the band to take a break, moron
The "power ballad" is about money.
nevermind
ok i agree now that dtna is not a ballad it isnt
FREE BIRDS A POWER BALLAD....it just has a really long solo
ok a power ballad to me is a song that makes you stop what your doing and listen..yea usuallyit is a slow song but...ah hell your right its the highlight of a concert yes...
power ballad blame vh1 they raised me on what power ballads were
the definition of a power ballad has always kind of confused me
a ballad is a slow, simple, romantic song
so is a power ballad just a ballad with more guitar?
Dance The Night Away is NOT a fucking power ballad--99 percent of power ballads bite the big one--and why is it that most bands feel obligated to put at least one (or more) per CD (Aerosmith)??
A power ballad is a real or so so good or great song purposefully
streched in length time (with filler) not substance in order to garner
more listening power and air time power ballads in thier condensed
version are probably great tunes.
should have made this a poll
BON JOVI invented the "Power Ballad".
Chick song....with cheesey "hair metal" guitars.
"DEAD OR ALIVE"
"HOME SWEET HOME"
"FLY TO THE ANGELS"
These are power ballads........
LED ZEPPELIN, ORIGINAL VAN HALEN.....these bands wrote NO power ballads........
Power ballads are often misunderstood. For example, Aerosmith's "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" is NOT a Power Ballad, its just a ballad, "Wind of Change" is not a power ballad, its just a ballad.
There is a TV station in the UK called Magic, and every couple of weeks it will have "Power Ballads Week" and they play people like Westlife (boyband) and Bionnie Tyler. They domn't actually play power ballads, just ballads.
Now, as for REAL Power Ballads, I'm not a big fan of them. There are very few that I actually like.

I always thought a Power ballad was one where the Singer really
belted it out.. Put some guts into the vocals..
I could be wrong..
Is that Celine Dion Titanic song a Power Ballad ?? :p

There's nothing powerful about it.
Cheap Trick's The Flame would be a "power ballad"

is poison by Alice Cooper a power ballad
No, thats just a pop song.
I thought for sure Aerosmiths Don't Wanna Miss a Thing is a power ballad.

It is.
So is Night Ranger's "Sister Christian", the archetype of this suck-ass genre.
"I Remember You"-Skid Row
"I Wish It Would Rain"-Phil Collins with Eric Clapton
"House Of Pain"-Fasterpussy Cat-Not your typical "She left me, I want her back" song.
Knew that was Slowhand on the first note weeks before I ever saw the video. Still love that song. Though I'm not huge fan and realize the slow songs he has written over the years are just ballads I still believe a case can be made for the Collins song I mentioned above. I guess "You're No Son Of Mine" could possibly be one. Or maybe its just my own personal connection with that one that makes me think so.

The song was written by Dianne Warren, the bitch who writes for boybands. ANYTHING she writes can not be considered "Power" anything. Plus, the song isn't powerful in the least, anyone could do that song, thats the thing about a power ballad, if you can see a boyband doing it, it isn't a power ballad.Originally posted by diamondsgirl

'what it takes'
