There is just no way possible that Bonds could be trying to stall long enough to piss clean. NO WAY!!!

bonds has always said he cares about breaking ruth's record, not so much about aaron's.

i agree with hellvis. this is an easy way for him to "rehab" for a year and then come back.

if he's not the same player he was, then it's because he had to take a year off for an arthritic knee; and because he's now 41, going on 42 years old.

but as bad as he might be, he'll still get 12 homers in 2006 and pass ruth. (and have ready-made, non-steriod excuses for why his performance might not be as strong as it used to be.)

if he's strong next season, and comes close to passing aaron, i think he plays in 2007. if not, he'll still have passed ruth and then retire because of his knee problems.

As a Bonds fan, I'm happy that he's waiting until next year. That way he won't look as pathetic as McGwire did when his career ended.

    DLR7884
The timing of this is perfect....Palmeiro goes down and Bonds slips away until next April.

Dude, he's gonna be 42 years old next year...let's say that this isnt a back room suspension by Bud Selig...that means that he has rediculously arthritic knees to not be able to come back THIS year.

If it's because of the steroids and he comesback next year 30 pounds lighter...well...

    LOL.

    He'll be fine next year.

Bonds at 75% is still better than most players in the league.

Yeah, but he'll never be held in the same esteem as Henry Aaron, even if he does break the record.

Ryne Sandberg gave a great speech at the HOF ceremony. These current crop of players should pay attention.

It just pisses me off that my favorite player, Andre Dawson, who was clean and hit 438 home runs has a hard time getting 60% of the vote on the HOF ballot, and here we have pricks like McGwire, Sosa and Palmeiro that will probably have no problem getting in juiced.

Bonds is a bitter a-hole, but he's no dummy.

By missing the season, Bonds can wean himself off the 'juice and by using the injury as a reason for the much thinner version of Barry Bonds we are going to see live in front of our steaming eyes in 2006.

With Balco still under investigation and all eyes on him as he pursues Hank Aaron, Bonds would have had to face intense media scrutiny - even more than Jason Giambi did in Spring Training.

He knows he's a shoe-in for the H.O.F., so why should he put than in jeopardy and put himself into a scenario 10 times worse than what Giambi went through, and what Rafael Palmeiro is now going through?

Bonds doesn't give a shit about the record. He wants to protect what he's already accomplished.

Sandberg gave a great speech today.

It's disgraceful that "The Hawk" isn't in the H.O.F. Tremendous talent.

Excellent news. Barry Bonds is a racist prick. And anyone who thinks he is out for the year because of his knee(s) is sadly mistaken.

I bet if Bonds were to suddenly become a Yankee, your description of him would become a bit more positive.

He was yes. I think the few down years he had in the mid 80's hurt him.

Had Dawson played the bulk of his career in N.Y., L.A. or Boston instead of in Montreal he would be in the HOF already.

He got very little national media attention until he went to Chicago in 1987.

Fairy Bonds is a bitch. How fuckin' many homeruns did he hit per year before his record stealing ( just like McGuire ) season? That's right, he can put the bat on the ball, but it took roids to put the ball out. The only thing Ruth ever needed was a long train/bus/car ride, no sleep, a bottle of whiskey, a couple of whores, and oh yeah...a shot of penicillin! And what position did Ruth play anyway, huh Bill?

Here Bill, I'll give you the answer. For the first ten years of her career, she hit less than 30 HRs per year. So, I guess when she hit more than double that one season, I bet it had nothing to do with a juiced ball, bat, or body. Please, You must be joking.

I think you meant that he averaged 30HR's per year, right ??

Far be it for me to defend Bonds, but the common belief is that he started with the 'roids around '98 or so....

By the time the '98 season ended, he had 411 HR's, an average of 31 per year...

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.........He hit 40 plus 4 times while still thin as a rail...........people act like he had absolutely NO power before 2000 when he hit 49(then followed it up with 73). Whatever, he's just another talentless roid user I guess...being the player of the 90's was ALL roids induced...........

The knee injury is degenerative...similar to Bo Jackson when he was injured playing football...

I'd be really...surprised if he can play...

Of course as a lifelong hardcore Giants fan(and huge Bonds fan) I want to see him attempt a comeback.......I just don't see how he could ever regularly play the outfield again.

Thank you for proving my point. As you have shown, he only broke the 40 mark once in his first ten years. As we all know, his HR numbers went up along with his hat size after that. Ruth and Aaron broke 40 three or four times their first ten years as have MANY other players. Can Bonds swing the bat? Hell yes. Can he hit the ball? Hell yes. What's his lifetime BA? Around 300. Good, even very good. KING, hahahahahahhhhaaaahhhaaa.....I think not. He's no Ruth, Aaron, or Ted Williams, hell he's no A Rod. He has half the talent and even less class. Now you eat that while I smile.

Ted Williams was a badass. He hit like .342 lifetime.

521 home runs, and he missed four years during the war where he could have tacked on another 150 or so dingers.

Baseball has been "done" since the strike of 1994. Haven't been to a MLB game since.
