    How Many Say I ?

I heard it the other day, for the first time.

The Van Halen III cd, was at my friends house and collecting dust.

OMG! I almost fucking pissed myself how terrible it was!

I heard this song was performed live during the Cherone tour.

I'll pay any price to see a clip of this live! lmao!!!!

Perhaps not the worst song in the history of music, but DEFINITELY the worst thing ever attached to the "Van Halen" brand.

Would have been interesting to see what would have happened if Ed dropped that turd of a song at DLR's feet.

That would have never seen the light of day on any VH record, that's for certain.

But the "III" time period was when it ceased to be "Van Halen" and became "The Eddie Van Halen Band" and he was not going to be overruled.

Of course, then again....1985 was when it REALLY ceased to be Van Halen...

perhaps Ed wanted to see if he could actually be WORSE than Hagar.

unbelievably,he proved this to be possible.

but it does prove that Sammy even manages to suck at being the worst.

I've listened to it many times. I tried to like it. I really did. Because it's Eddie. It's now a beer coaster in my living room. Cool conversation piece. What a turd.

No it's not the worst VH song ever....

As a matter of fact, it still kicks the ass off of ANYTHING that Samuel Roy Hagarita ever....EVER put out, with or without VH.

Sorry, that post wasn't a joke. I thought that although VH3 shouldn't have been a Van Halen release (just like anything without Dave), it was the best I've heard of Eddie SINCE 1984. and the album was extremely underrated, IMO. I thought that if it was released under a different band name, or maybe even as a Gary Cherone effort with special guest Ed, Al & Mike - it would've been a more credible release.

I'm a big Extreme fan - especially of Extreme's first 2 CDs, and I thought that - after listening to VH1 & VH2 and Extreme 1&2 - this album would shred anything close to Van Hagar. After all, Cherone is IMO the world's most successful ROTH fan.

Gary NEVER bashed Dave, NEVER wanted to sing any Van Hagar stuff on tour but had to b/c of Eddie, and did a great job of covering the classic stuff.

    UNLIKE SPAM M*F***ING HAGAR

Hiring a Roth fan to tour with Van Halen isn't as good as having Roth back, but it's still better than Spammy - and that's my point.

cherone paid respect for dave and the stuff he did...but just acted like a pole-smoking-jimmy-summerville-wannabe on stage...

and whatever the VHIII record may sound like (never really listened to it) the last song is "how many say I" and that song is the worst piece of shit ever put on a record with the name VAN HALEN on it...

I cant comment .I Drove a Van, haven't listened or purchased any thing
with Van on it since ,well you know when.

I really should do the whole scenario everything since 85 its got to have some good guitar ,bass and drums ,arrangements and so forth.

Hearing hagar that much wuold f me up.I would be more well rounded
in discusions or jus take the word of peoples OP i respect and remain
    ignorant.

    DLRengineroom I agree with you.

didnt Cherone only do 1 token Hagar song per album.(he did far more Roth tunes).

BUT,How Many Say I was practically an EVH solo track.

and to think 4 years previously,he;d been laughing at "no big ting"

    Yup. Even worse than that.

The so-called "harmonies" between Gary and Eddie sound like two cats getting ready to fight in an alley.

You can actually hear Gary straining as he makes his way up and down the scale to find what key Eddie is singing in.

Unfortunately most people can't harmonize in the key of "drunk."

I saw Van Halen with Gary Cherone play at a festival in Germany. Great show.
Ed was playing his arse off and having a great time. Gary's performance was also top notch.

I dont understand why people here hate Gary Cherone so much.
True, VanHalen III is an awful album, but thats more to do with just overal crap songs rather than bad vocal performance. I would also prefer to see Van Halen perform with Gary Cherone than Sammy Hagar as they played alot of the classic stuff which Sammy never wanted to sing.

I'm sure the public opinion here is what it is because this time Eddie really had the chance to take Dave back...but he didn't...and all the anger...it's not so much against Gary...it's against Eddie.

    B-I-N-G-O was it's name-o....

Eddie fucked it up pure and simple. The window was open, again, and he ran the other way.

I saw it. I was at the Rosemont Horizon in Chicago front row. He busted that shit out first song during the encore. Everybody was stone cold silent. After that, they went to a Dave era staple song. Panama baby. Man did he kill the crowd. Even Panama couldn't bring us back. Eddie was on fire that show though. I hate to give him that but it's true. Just to hear the Dave tunes was good enough musically. I just blocked out the voice.

Everytime I hear "More Than Words" go thru the second, then the third and fourth "endings" I drop to my knees and pray Allah explode Cherone's creepy, lisping head like the destruction of Krakatoa.

    I love that song!!

And I had Pornografitti on last night. It's a great album, and Cherone is much better than Roy Hagar.
