how to use Vegas DVD + DVD Architect

hello campers, I'm now trying to make a DVD of Ted Nugent using Vegas DVD and DVD Architect. I installed those programs months ago but I still can't understand how to use them because I'm a baka.
so I hope someone kind teaches me it politely here.

I already made an mpeg file(3.9GB, AC-3 audio) and a pic(JBG) for menu. what should I do next?
Don't notice most of my posts are less than 2 lines...

don't render it to AC3 in Vegas any more. DVDA will do that for you.

lately i've been marking my chapters and rendering the clips as MPEG2, w/regular audio stream. once it's done, close Vegas, open DVDA, and open your clip there. when you go to prepare the DVD, DVDA will compress the audio file as AC3. takes one step out of Vegas, but adds one to DVDA, whatever.

Cato-san, once you open DVDA, go to the preview screen in the center, right click, and then click "add media." find your completed Nugent clip, then load it. if you want a scene selection menu, you can select it from there too, hit "add scene selection menu." if you've already got an MPEG file and an AC3 file, DVDA will automatically load the AC3 file when you select the MPEG file, as long as they are named the same. if you named them different you'll have to load the AC3 file manually.

put your chapters in BEFORE you render in Vegas. make sure the option to save chapter data is selected. then when you load the clip into DVDA they're already marked. i don't like marking chapters in DVDA, the timeline is too small.

load media into DVDA. you'll have your clip, then right click and hit "add scene selection menu." that'll give you another button, if you navigate into that it shows your chapters. rename them, add/delete the thumbnails, add color to the buttons...from there on it's all done to taste.

i thought i was gonna have to fly over there and give you a tutorial.

glad you could figure it out, i know i get too technical in my explanations sometimes.

i'm working on making motion menus, or at least little clips that play before the buttons come up on the screen. haven't done much with the "end action" feature yet either.

FWIW, i use the same color/highlight for my buttons, and never use thumbnails for the scene selection menu. i try to download fonts to fit the project. but that's all subject to change i guess.

    >little clips that play before the buttons come up on the screen

is that something like BTB's logo? I already made mine and I will put it up on this DVD.

I'm now designing a chapter selection menu(no top menu this time)
and I have a problem with buttons. is there any way to unify the size of them?

i dunno about that. i usually just use text buttons, all the same size font. moving the cursor highlights the text button.

if your buttons are part of a font you should be able to make them all the same size, don't use the "Auto" setting, change 'em all to 18 or 16.

i think DVDA calls that the intro video. i want to make a background clip for the menu that is a video, not a static pic. if you've seen the menus for the Star Wars DVD's, you know what i mean,

do you wanna just copy DVD's? if so, download free software like DVD decrypter. check out the link below.

    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/vi..._decrypter.cfm

if you create them, get TMPG DVD author. it's the easies program as far as I kniow. mine is ver 2.0(pro).

you can download trial version here
    http://www.tmpg-inc.com/download/index.html

DVDA is a program to design the menu and burn DVD's.

yep. iknowhatchumean. i don't think Vegas can do it but here's what i do to cheat:

use DVDA to prepare your DVD. don't do "prepare and burn," just prepare. it'll make a foler with all your files, just like you downloaded it, then use DVD Shrink to compress the video file. you should be able to keep your menus, or at least your chapter markers.

i dumped a VHS (the Rolling Stones 25X5) onto the computer, but it's a little longer than 2 hours. i didn't set chapters or make a menu, i figured i'd watch it all the way through...so i compressed it in DVD Shrink just enough to get it to fit on one DVD. didn't lose much quality at all.

i don't think i'd try to make four hours of video fit on one single layer DVD, it would look like shit. but if you need just a little space, use DVD Shrink.

you can also play with the video quality settings in Vegas, but i'm not sure if that will make the file smaller or not. i always use "best quality."

I'm using TMPG endoder for it now. it can resize the mpeg file at wil. but it takes many hours. so I was hoping Vegas has the same ability, to save my time....

Cato-san, have you got anything like this?

it's a Contour Shuttle Express, jog/shuttle dial. makes moving frame-by-frame a lot easier. i just found that it works grate in DVDA while setting chapters. i usually use it in Vegas, but was just messing around in DVDA and tried it.

i think i got it for $30. check in the Mac department of a computer store. they've got a ShuttlePro with more buttons but this one was good enough.

just saw this too...a keyboard with Vegas commands...$130 for the package...maybe i'll get one for the next computer i build.
