This kind of movie are obvious money makers. I personally don't dig any of them ("The Rose", the real Janis being so much more than the one of fiction, the recent films about the early Stones or Ray Charles must be as disappointing I think, the characters being too close to us).
Actors, however good they may be, won't ever match up to them, and as for the principle itself... I think actors and film directors get their own selves much more fun than they actually serve Janis, Ray Charles, Tina or Moony's singularities.
They weaken them, even: the director's eye shrinks everything, the actors may be great, but they remain actors... That kind of film perhaps looks the most obviously fake IMO.

I agree. Let's be optimistic. Maybe this one will be the exception. And Daltrey himself getting involved in it sounds like a guarantee.

BTW, I'm not quite sure but there used to be some kind of bone of contention between Keith and Roger back in the 60s, up to fist fighting... But I read about that a long time ago, so I'm not sure. Maybe it was just food for the press at that time.

"Janis", the 1975 movie (I got it 10 years ago on VHS, still in a perfect state), is the best one I know that is about a rock star. It's Pearl herself from beginning to end, on stage, on rehearsal, interviewed, back in her home town, etc. That should be the only way to pay homage to a rock 'n' roll star, as long as there's enough video footage available to edit. And I think it's the case with Keith Moon, as there is much already in "The kids are alright" or "30 years of maximum R&B live", and there must remain tons in the drawers in offices here and there...
That's why I won't go to see Myer's film. I'd go if it was made the way "Janis" was.
But I wish those who see no big deal that way that it will be a success, well, may they have a good time.

          Great post.

Yeah, Moonie has been served well enough by vids/movies put out there with actual Who footage.

Plus, there was a good deal of turmoil in Moon's life along with the manic points of happiness. Mike Myers just seems an odd choice (can this guy ven DO drama?), and presenting the Keith Moon story as some kind of docudrama isn't really gonna be interesting to me.

Can't say I'm looking forward to the Janis movies in production, either. The film, 'Janis', still holds up just fine after all these years.

I think Mike Myers would be the best candidate. A fine actor. And he physically resembles him as well.

I have a super-thick hardcover bio that was published just a few years ago.

An amazing life led, with a tragic end.

The Who were amongst the greatest British Rock Bands who sacrificed one of their own...like Zep & The Stones...

So, Jeff Beck pops his head 'round the door, and mentions there's a little sweets shop on the edge of town. So - we go. And - it's closed. So there's me, and Keith Moon, and David Crosby, breaking into that little sweets shop, eh. Well, instead of a guard dog, they've got this bloody great big bengal tiger. I managed to take out the tiger with a can of mace, but the shopkeeper and his son... that's a different story altogether. I had to beat them to death with their own shoes...Nasty business, really, but sure enough I got the M&Ms, and Ozzy went on stage and did a great show..."

Good news and yeah, Mike Myers might definetely hit it...if not him, then Johnny Depp...he's probably the best one out there to pull out any colorful, original, less ordinary character...

I read somewhere, months ago, Johnny Depp wanting to be involved in a film about Syd Barret?
