Probably why it's never turned up on a bootleg. At least none that I've heard (as opposed to Criss Cross which has been on dozens of them)

At least the Stones think about their fans - and their bank accounts too, let's not be too naive - releasing their vaults.
Some of them are stellar (Marquee 1971), some stuff sucks, and it's surprising they eventually published it and then got "exposed" in very poor shape, like LA Forum 1975 (ooh my, how horrible )...

So it looks like Goats Head SuperDeluxe isn't the only Stones vault release out in September......
Yep, it's the Stones Atlantic City pay per view show from the Steel Wheels tour... presumably without the goofy 3D gimmicks that were in the edited version that aired later on the Fox network. (Historical note: this is the show where Keef wanted to take out a certain Orange Imbecile with his pocket knife)
Apparently nobody's updating the Rolling Stones Archives website during the Cheetoplague (they don't even have Goats Head Soup listed and that's been in the pipeline for over a month now) but I just happened to stumble across this on Amazon. They're taking pre-orders at $23.49 for a DVD & 2 CDs. Same setlist on both, of course.
1. Intro 2. Start Me Up 3. Bitch 4. Sad Sad Sad 5. Undercover Of The Night 6. Harlem Shuffle 7. Tumbling Dice 8. Miss You 9. Terrifying 10. Ruby Tuesday 11. Salt Of The Earth (featuring Axl Rose & Izzy Stradlin) 12. Rock And A Hard Place 13. Mixed Emotions 14. Honky Tonk Women 15. Midnight Rambler 16. You Can’t Always Get What You Want 17. Little Red Rooster (featuring Eric Clapton) 18. Boogie Chillen (featuring Eric Clapton & John Lee Hooker) 19. Can’t Be Seen 20. Happy 21. Paint It Black 22. 2000 Light Years From Home 23. Sympathy For The Devil 24. Gimme Shelter 25. It’s Only Rock n Roll (But I Like It) 26. Brown Sugar 27. (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction 28. Jumpin’ Jack Flash
Steel Wheels was one of the Rolling Stones highest grossing revenue tours at $200 million. Those net worth websites have Richards and Jagger each at $500 million. The numbers are staggering.
Ghey. Steel Steals was a market attempt after a failed Richards solo album and GAWD knows how many shitty failed Jagger solo efforts. The Stones suck tea coaster balls off of a dead Easter bunny when playing live. There is no amount of remastering that can ever help them. These motherfuckers should be bitch slapped for their crimes.

Keef's solo album was great. Admittedly, Mick's first two solo albums were not his best work (though his third, "Wandering Spirit" was excellent.)
One of the writers in Musician magazine gave Talk Is Cheap a great review and then said Jagger was up studio musician creek without a paddle.

Guess Mick's bored. He's doing remixes of 47 year old "newly released" songs now.... though I think I actually like the bass line better in this version....
Oddly enough, the one thing that will apparently NOT be part of the Goats Head Superdeluxe is the original recording of "Silver Train", which dates back to the Sticky Finger sessions. But of course, so did half of the tracks that surfaced on the "Exile on Main Street" remaster from a few years back. So you gotta settle for the muddy bootleg version indefinitely, I guess....
And if you're familiar with Johnny Winter's cover version of this song, you'll notice it sounds a lot more like this one than the official Goats Head Soup track.
Here's the last of the three "New" songs from Goats Head Superdeluxe. This one was previously titled "You Should Have Seen Her Ass" in the bootleg universe.
I'm pretty sure the vocals here are new recordings by 77 year old Mick, but the music is vintage Stones with Charlie & Mick Taylor especially at the top of their game here
Way much better than that Scarlet bore.
And it isn't the 30-year-old Jagger singing here, I agree. He had to find occupation during all these weeks spent in his French castle, too.

I had lunch at his "Sticky Fingers" restaurant 2 years ago, found it totally by chance. The food is er, sticky for sure.
But the restaurant is a real museum: in the entrance, there's a gold record of the Stones' Sticky Fingers hanging on the wall.
Inside, there are dozens of genuine, vintage pics of the Stones on stage or hanging around, bass guitars, guitars...
He came to the restaurant the night before the night I was there, as one of the employees told me. He is 84 now. Time waits for no one...
I have an American issue of Monkey Grip on vinyle, his 1974 solo album, love it. He was the first Stone to do so.
I bought "Stone Alone", the book he published years ago, still have to finish it. It's full of great anecdotes. Bill used to keep notes all the time.
I took pictures that night, but as I changed phones since, I'll have to dig into my archives (that aren't always exactly tidy) and share a few here maybe.

And the deluxe remaster rollout train continues... because they're bored shitless at home and have nothing else to do, probably.
This time around it's the re-issue of Keef's "Live At The Palladium" from the first X-Pensive Winos tour in 1988. Not sure how much unreleased material there will be on there, but I know this wasn't on the original album....

I picked up the six disc Steel Wheels thing. Haven't got into it yet though.
Forgot to ask about the Goat's Head Soup set while I was there. Might just get it off Amazon.
Get 'Hate It When You Leave' and the rare Keith Richards track “Key To The Highway” (which only ever saw release on the Japanese version of the album Main Offender) on a red vinyl 7” single on Record Store Day. This RSD exclusive drops Oct 24th, and is limited to 4000 units.
For more info and for participating stores, visit https://recordstoreday.com/ .

I've had that "Key to the highway" for years in "Stereo rarities" vol. 4. Keith could still sing in the 90s.
Yeah, I'm sure I have it on at least one boot myself. Seems like an odd choice to release a vinyl single for two songs that have been out for nearly 30 years, let alone make a video for one of them. Keef should have released a single and video of this back in the day. "Hate It When You Leave" was always one of my favorite tracks on Main Offender. Keef goes Motown, and goddamned if he doesn't pull it off.
Really? Are you saying this as a complete truth throughout their career? Cuz if you mean that, you truly have no credibility. I used to think you were just the town idiot, but you really are claiming the Stones never were an amazing live band?
Do yourself a favor. Grab a copy of GET YER YA-YA'S OUT and give that a listen. That is some supremely raw, brilliant live rock 'n' roll.

At first I was kinda annoyed that the GOAT'S HEAD SOUP didn't have even more unreleased tracks, but I think a lot of my favorite outtakes from that period are from the IORAR sessions...and two solid outtakes from GOAT'S HEAD already came out on TATTOO YOU. Anyway, when I listened to the studio outtakes disc from the new GOAT'S set, I was surprised how cool and different some of the alternate takes are. It's nice to have CRISS CROSS with more polished sound. And SCARLET is really solid. Great box set.
I had forgotten about this until 'Keith' died last week.
Stella Street is a British television comedy programme, originally screened in four series on BBC Two between 1997 and 2001. It takes the form of a mockumentary filmed on a camcorder, based on the fantastical premise that a group of British and American celebrities have all decided to move into Stella Street in Surbiton (actually Hartswood Road, London, W12).

I'm sure I've posted this one before, but the RIAA nazis probably took it down. So enjoy it while you can.... because you won't find it on anything officially released since 1978.....
I downloaded the Some Girls 8 track from somewhere a while ago but I don't remember where.
Jérôme Frenchise (11-12-2020)
I hope you will. When you do, could you please share a link? Must be a killer.
That version of Beast of Burden is the true highlight of the 8 track. There's also an extended cut of "Miss You" which is about a minute longer than the album version, but if you have the 8 minute 12" single (or any of it's CD reissues) then there's nothing in the 8 track version you haven't already heard
Jérôme Frenchise (11-12-2020)
Maybe the sound is worth the listening.
That whole Steel Wheels period, from the album itself to the tour, becomes less impressive to me as the years have wound on.
Think the album was pretty mediocre. I will say the tour was well-rehearsed and performed competently night after night...I dunno. For me, it was perhaps a case of too many extra/augmenting musicians onstage and the band being a bit TOO rehearsed.
Hey Jackass! You need to [Register] or log in to view signatures on ROTHARMY.COM!
I guess "too rehearsed" means they didn't sound stonesy enough to you.
I saw them on June 25, 1990 in Paris. I liked the Steel Wheels album a lot back then. Last summer I found a bootleg of that concert, "The Singer and the Fly" (the title explained by the fact Jagger swallowed a fly or a mosquito (I remember he said in French it was a fly when he came back after a while. He had choked with the bug, walked away and didn't finish the song).
I still enjoy Mixed Emotions, Sad Sad Sad, Blinded by Love and Keith's Slipping Away. Now it makes me think of a Mick Jagger solo album.
BTW, I prefer Keith's 1988 Talk is Cheap and Mick's Wandering Spirit that are both great records IMO.
I think the band sounded a bit...too polished on the Steel Wheels tour. Which I can understand to a degree, I suppose, with the size of the stage production and the amount of musicians onstage.
I'd sooner watch the 1978 Texas dvd, where it sounded a bit more like the band were flying by the seat of their pants.
I'd agree that both Talk Is Cheap and Wandering Spirit were better efforts than Steel Wheels was. In point of fact, a lot of the tracks on Steel Wheels sound like lesser tracks off of Jagger/Richards solo albums.
Actually "Almost Hear You Sigh" from Steel Wheels was literally an outtake from "Talk Is Cheap", which is why Steve Jordan has a co-writing credit on the song.
Terry (11-17-2020)
And even when they finally got together to make Steel Wheels, Keef was originally going to sing the song....
Guess he let Mick have it, because he thought "Slipping Away" was a better ballad for him, maybe?
Terry (11-17-2020)
Perhaps re: Slipping Away vs. Almost Hear You Sigh.
I do recall when [Steel Wheels] first came out I listened to it quite a bit, mostly in the run-up to the Stones show I saw on that tour. But after the tour was over, the album (actually a cassette) just gathered dust. Same for Voodoo Lounge.
About the only tracks off of Steel Wheels I could see even wanting to hear these days...maybe Terrifying. Maybe Break The Spell. Too much of the rest of the record these days seems like the band were just recycling riffs/ideas and moods from previous albums, whereas from, say, Beggar's Banquet to Let It Bleed to Sticky Fingers to Exile On Main Street to Goat's Head Soup to It's Only Rock And Roll to Black and Blue to Some Girls the band wasn't sort of content with ripping themselves off. Even an uneven album like Emotional Rescue or Undercover would manage to come up with at least a couple of tracks that were decent in their own right.
Steel Wheels is more of a sentimental thing to me. My first Stones show, $35 and we sat right behind the right field dugout at old Cleveland Muny Stadium. It was COLD! Late September or early October, I don't remember and too lazy to look.
I like Continental Drift. Don Was doesn't let them do stuff like that any more, he plays it very safe. Saint of Me, Might As Well Get Juiced and Gunface on Bridges To Babylon were produced by others.
