Yeah, I fully expected to give Mick and Keith more of my money before the holidays.

I want to see the documentary that went with the Cuba show, Olé Olé Olé: A Trip Across Latin America

Why does anybody need 12 identical harmonicas? I could see carrying a case full of them if they were different sizes or some other thing that made them sound different, but those all look like the exact same thing to me.

The blues album sounds like a great idea. Steel Wheels might have been a better album if they had included the blues songs they recorded in those sessions, and replaced a couple of the "fillers" that ended up on that record. Instead of relegating the blues numbers to B-sides (and that 2 disc edition of the Flashpoint album)

Each harmonica is in a different key.

That would make sense, but since those all appear to be the same size, and the combs look the same on all of them (at least the ones that can be seen) how could they be different keys? It's not like you can really do much "tuning" on a harmonica, apart from what you do with your mouth. And there's only so many parts to it....

...not that I'm an expert. I have a harmonica, but I can't play it for shit.

I'm trying to figure out the signature on that contract. It doesn't look like any of the band members names. Or Andrew Oldham, for that matter. Who else would have been signing contracts for the Stones in 1962?

Look at the date of the contract in the top right corner. June 27, 1962
    July 12, 1962 (Thursday)
The Rolling Stones made their debut at London's Marquee Club, Number 165 Oxford Street, opening for the first time under that name, for Long John Baldry. Mick Jagger, Brian Jones, Keith Richards, Ian Stewart, Dick Taylor and Tony Chapman had played together for the group Blues Incorporated before creating a new name inspired by the Muddy Waters 1950 single "Rollin' Stone"
That contract pre dates The Stones.

It's a little more complicated than that. Blues Incorporated was Alexis Korner's thing. It was more of a revolving door collective than a permanent band, though Brian Jones, Ian Stewart and Charlie Watts were consistently in the lineup for a while. Mick & Keith originally had their own thing going called "Little Boy Blue and the Blue Boys" and Dick Taylor was part of that as well. They all eventually started jamming with the others at Korner's club but were never formally members of Blues Incorporated. Brian & Stu wanted to break away from that and put their own band together, so they joined forces with Mick & Keef & Dick Taylor, who would soon be replaced by Bill Wyman (who was playing with another group, but figured he might as well joiin the Stones, as he was paying their rent and they were using his amplifiers anyway) It took them a little longer to get Charlie away from Alexis Korner, so in the meantime they played a few gigs as "The Rollin' Stones" with other drummers, Tony Chapman being the first, and Mick Avory (later of The Kinks) a while later.

So if the blues album happened by "accident" and the Stones still have another album of new material in the works... I sure wish Keef would bring this one back and finish writing the damn lyrics for it.

easily could have been the best track on Dirty Work, if they had bothered finishing it.

Captioned "Coming October 6." First single? Or a warm-up club show the day before the first Desert Trip weekend?

Someone on Shidoobee says it's Lewis Brian Hopkins Jones.

Brian acted as the "manager" before Oldham was around, so that would be a good guess. Though I don't see anything that looks like "Jones" in the signature, the initials "L" and "B" are obvious enough.

The billboard matches the previous pictures, so this must be the cover art for the blues album, and thus probably the single. But there will probably be a club gig somewhere in Southern California, as that's always standard Stones practice before starting a tour. If they weren't already rehearsing in California, I would suspect the usual Toronto clubs, but it's not likely they're going to make a side trip to Canada at the moment.

Vegas, Phoenix, or Tucson wouldn't be out of the question though. All within a day's drive.

The Rolling Stones official YouTube channel is now also using the "Blues" artwork as their official icon avatar, though there aren't any new songs posted there yet. Give 'em a couple days....

Looks like the warm-up show was in Vegas last night, for a gathering of Freightliner execs. Stones played Mick's Demotions (see what I did there?) for the first time since the Steel Wheels/Urban Jungle tour.

The Rolling Stones Perform Mixed Emotions For First Time Since 1990

by Paul Cashmere on October 4, 2016

    in News

The Rolling Stones performed a private show in Las Vegas on Monday with a special addition to the setlist…’Mixed Emotions’ for the first time in 26 years.

The show at the Bellagio Hotel was a warm-up show for the upcoming Desert Trip show in India, California this weekend.

‘Mixed Emotions’ was the first song back after the unofficial break-up of the Stones in the 80s. Keith Richards and Mick Jagger had hit a wall after the ‘Dirty Work’ album and the band fizzled to a grinding halt for a number of years with Mick and Keith exchanged barbs at each other like a couple of Gallagher brothers.

When they returned with Steel Wheels, they launched with ‘Mixed Emotions’ which many interpret as the final slap down for Jagger by Richards. While the song is titled ‘Mixed Emotions’ many read it as “Mick’s Emotions’ (You’re not the only one with Mick’s emotions). It was a clever line Keith got away with all the way to the album.

Despite being a hit song, Jagger stopped performing it until he found out … until now. Maybe he finally gets the joke.

Rolling Stones setlist 3 October 2016, Las Vegas

Start Me Up (from Tattoo You, 1981)
You Got Me Rocking (from Voodoo Lounge, 1994)
It’s Only Rock ‘N’ Roll (But I Like It) (from It’s Only Rock N Roll, 1974)
Out Of Control (from Bridges To Babylon, 1997)
Tumbling Dice (from Exile On Main Street, 1972)
Wild Horses (from Sticky Fingers, 1971)
Mixed Emotions (from Steel Wheels, 1989)
    Honky Tonk Women (single, 1968)
Miss You (from Some Girls, 1978)
Gimme Shelter (from Let It Bleed, 1969)
Brown Sugar (from Sticky Fingers, 1971)
Sympathy For The Devil (from Beggars Banquet, 1968)
    Jumping Jack Flash (single, 1968)
(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction (from Out Of Our Heads, 1965)

The Rolling Stones will return to Las Vegas on 19 October, 2016.

Kind of a tame setlist, and minus Doom and Gloom pretty much what I saw in Columbus last year.

It's mentioned in the liner notes to one of the Virgin "hits" releases, Jump Back: The Best of the Rolling Stones. Richards denies it now.

Very uninteresting and unsurprizing setlist for sure...

And Jagger is still such a bore on the harp...

The Jag can still handle a huge crowd and manage pretty quick dance steps. And his voice is still there.

Cool - even if that isn't my fave Stones tune...

You know what...who gives a shit about the setlist. It's the fucking Stones. They are out there, they play and they rock.

I've paid more than 600 $ to see their last tour and it was worth every penny! Keith's last solo album makes me smile while I drink my morning coffee and I'm excited what their next album as a band will sound like.

These guys do it just for the fun if it. Do they make a shitload of money? Sure...but they love what they do. Watch them rehearse! These fuckers still jam! They are still a band! Not like some assholes I signed up here for in the first place.

I paid $40 last year. Lucky Dip tickets! Got club seats at the Horseshoe.

Blue and Lonesome is supposedly the album title.

Yeah, that setlist isn't anything for me to get excited about. Certainly nothing worth an appreciable amount of money to truck myself out to a stadium to see. Not even worth youtubing for free.

I only got to see them once in 1989. And it WAS a pretty great show. However, nothing I've seen/heard from them in subsequent years has made me want to see 'em again. Without a doubt, one of the greatest rock bands ever, and one of my favorite rock bands ever. But as a live act they've been on cruise control for nearly 3 decades now, and nobody will convince me of anything otherwise.

Like what I'm hearing so far. Stones take it back to their roots. Not bad at all for a bunch of 70+ year olds

The second track is a Howlin' Wolf tune. Great.

The rest isn't "overknown" stuff apparently. I wish they did another album with new material, playing blues music is something inspirational.

Then there was that album Mick cut with The Red Devils in a single one day, no overdub session. This was around the same time he was recording the "Wandering Spirit" album (which ended up being his best solo album in any case) but in the end, Mick & producer Rick Rubin decided not to use any of this stuff for the album.

It's been bootlegged under a dozen or so different names since then, of course......

Wandering Spirit is a stellar album to me too. He's in top shape vocally.
