Always liked this version slightly better than the album version.... another one of those things Bob Clearmountain ruined, but he didn't have nearly as much to chop off of this song..... And somehow the ending got chopped off, but other than that....

From the El Mocambo Club gig in Toronto 1977 - same show that Side 3 of Love You Live came from. Hopefully the entire show will be another official Stones Vault release in the near future.... but until then, here's the shitty sound quality version.....

Tonight's show in Vegas cancelled. Jagger has laryngitis. Some are speculating that "laryngitis" is another word for "slow sales." We'll see if Saturday's show gets cancelled.

I was skimming their website and saw VIP tickets for NYC for $85 and thought that was a bit more like it.

Then realized that's how much they are charging to walk around an exibition about them.....!!!

On the subject of Stones Vault Material from the Black & Blue tour, these have leaked out recently. Mick completely fucks up the lyrics on Angie a few times, but other than that, some solid performances here

Gotta wonder why they left "Hey Negrita" off the Love You Live album? Was Mick afraid he would have to pay Woody royalties, since he actually wrote it?

¡Olé, Olé, Olé! A Trip Across Latin America will be screened in US theaters for one night only, on December 12.

The Eagle Rock logo is on the page, this will likely end up on Blu-Ray.

Seems to be Eagle Rock's pattern.. they do a one day theater release and then put out the disc the same week. Aren't all the new releases on Fridays now? (which would make December 16 the likely retail day for the disk. Just in time to wait in line for three hours at a mall to buy the fucking thing.)

    New release Fridays, yeah.

I pre-ordered Havana Moon and Blue and Lonesome from Amazon. Havana Moon will be here tomorrow.

And my Amazon pre-order of Blue and Lonesome will be here Friday...but I've managed to find it early and listening to it now. It's good! Lots of harp. I like the saturated sound.

Good thing it's windy outside, it's masking the music coming from the house.

Havana Moon was good too. Haven't spun the CD's yet but I'm assuming it's the same mix as the movie.

So here you have a bunch of guys in their mid 70s, making a record that sounds much like the records they made when they were 20. Damn good way to bring it around full circle, should this end up being their final studio album. And considering they are averaging one studio album per decade anymore, it probably will be.

Supposedly the next album is already written and the blues tracks were just to warm up in the studio.

They're not touring the rest of the year, maybe they'll finish the new songs and go out late summer like they typically do.

I picked up the new cd for my Dad who is 68 for Christmas. His favorite band has always been The Stones. He has done nothing but play the hell out of it and has lauded it with praise. I have heard 3 songs from it and will be grabbing the cd for myself. Great production, Mick absolutely wails on harmonica, and it just sounds like they had...fun...recording this. Truly The Stones playing songs they loved and man it shines through.

Like it was intentionally presented at a slightly lower volume, and the mix was really dry. The net effect of both makes listening to the song somewhat underwhelming, which is a shame because it's one of Keef's better tunes.

The version you presented here definitely sounds much better and serves the song better than the album mix does.

It doesn't really get mentioned a lot by Stones fans in general from what I see , but I've always liked Love You Live.

Everybody blathers on about Get Yer Ya Ya's Out, but Love You Live has some fantastic stuff on it: the version of Sympathy For The Devil on it is awesome.

Love You Live was probably a better album than it should have been, given the condition the band - Keef especially - were in on that tour. Fortunately, the Paris concert that most of that album was recorded at went over a little better than the Knebworth festival, which had some cringeworthy moments....

The mid-1970s weren't a particularly bad period for the Stones to my ears. One of the music critics of the period - I think it was Lester Bangs - who attended one of the 1975/1976 shows said that basically The Stones by that point had made the transition, both musically and as performers, from being a crucial late 1960s rock group in an era where people half-believed that such groups would actually help change the world to professional entertainers. That whatever hippy, dippy idealism that had surrounded the band had transformed into the group being looked upon as merely one of several big-time rock bands who may still be categorized as a "must see" act when they were on the road, but the reasons people wanted to see them had shifted into wanting to catch a glimpse of a legendary band in order to say one had seen them.

I have the Paris and Knebworth footage in my collection, and scooped up the 75 Forum show when it came out. All of which is enjoyable to watch to a degree, although I'd be hard-pressed to say any of it reached the apex of what the Stones were doing live in 1969 or 1972. I mean, Billy Preston and Jagger grinding up against one another onstage after Preston sang a couple tunes was all a bit...a bit fey. The 1970s were definitely Jagger at his faggiest in terms of onstage mannerisms, and the 1975/1976 shows may well have been the height of the Dick Fagger persona.

However, at least Jagger was still actually singing on that tour. By the time the 1981 tour rolled around, Jagger was taking so many lazy vocal shortcuts with his live vocals and basically yelling the lyrics out, and the band itself was almost too rehearsed for their own good: I got some Seattle 1981 and Houston 1981 shows on a dvd trade maybe 6 years ago, along with the Hampton, VA show (which was in a very rough, obviously umpteenth generation from a vhs source), and the setlists and performances were so similar on each of the shows (and all of them basically the same as the LSTNG Phoenix/NJ shows) that I think I may have watched each of them once.

It must also be said that Woody's best work with The Stones live was, indeed, the first tour he did with the band. He was throwing some good stuff out there during the shows.

He never really matured well with the group, despite having been with them for 40 years. Not as a songwriting force, nor as a live performer/ostensibly lead guitarist. A shame, really, considering Wood had a respectable pedigree prior to hooking up with them. Probably too much freebase in the early to mid 1980s. I mean, I can't even say Wood had many great moments on record with the band, considering how long he has been with them. Black And Blue only featured him on a couple of tracks. Some Girls was probably the one great Stones album Wood can lay claim to having an impact on. Emotional Rescue...meh. My favorite leads on Tattoo You were on tracks Wood didn't even play on. SOME of Undercover was...okay. Dirty Work up to the present = disposable.

Woody did a great job under tough conditions. With Keef usually so smacked up he could barely remain vertical, and Mick often off in the other direction on the Colombian marching powder, somebody had to take the middle lane and hold it together. Not a bad job at all for a rookie. Of course Bill, Charlie, and Billy Preston also did great on that tour, so by some miracle it all mostly held together (the Knebworth train wreck notwithstanding) despite the Glimmer Twins momentary "performance issues".

I thought the Ole Ole Ole was very good. Love the new album so to speak. Joey Kramer could be the first person ive ever heard slight Charlie Watts in the drumming dept...

Id pay just to sit behind Charlie and watch him play anyday.

Joey Kramer can go fuck himself. The Stones have certainly had some albums that weren't as good as they were capable of, but they damn sure never sold out to be a glorified boy band like Aeroshit did in the mid-80s.

Charlie Watts is usually ranked among the top 10 drummers in the history of music. Joey Kramer? Not so much.
