On the other hand, maybe more & more acts are thinking "Hmmm. Maybe that Gene Simmons is on to something..."

There’s no money in recorded music. It’s live shows and whatever else you can sell. Gene was just ahead of the trend 45 years.

And on that note, who knows how many live shows the Stones have left in them?

The last three tours..... first one was delayed by Mick's heart surgery. Second was postponed by COVID... eventually resumed with a substitute drummer, who was supposed to be temporary, but sadly ended up not being the case. Supposed to tour this year, but Mick had a foot injury (apparently) that would have delayed the tour, and then they were faced with trying to compete with the NFL for open stadium dates in the Fall... which isn't really a good option when you're entire band is in their late 70s and need a night or two off between gigs these days.

Realistically, I think the days of Stones world tours are over, and that would be the case even if Charlie were still with them. They might play a show here and there if they can... headline some of those festival shows maybe, but it's not likely that they're going to make long range plans for a huge tour a year from now.

So... sell harmonicas & coffee makers? Why the fuck not? Though I would rather get some more vault releases of actual music.

Exactly. A band is a brand. You still can sell Stones shit when your body is too worn out to tour. I mean people are begging Alex to sell them some VH shit. The fans want it. Please Alex, take our money!

How much money is enough though?

I just don't get it but as I said earlier maybe you need to be fucking weird and mental to get into the position in the first place.

I always heard that Charlie didn't like touring, but Shirley would encourage him to get out of the house.

The Sketchers are $85 a pair. Four different styles. You're right, men's sizes stop at 14.

I'll wait and see if they end up in the Sketchers outlet nearby. The outlet I didn't know existed until I looked up the shoes.

I picked up the Stones V-Moda Crossfade 2 headphones a year ago. They weren't any more expensive than the plain black model.

Former Stones Tour Manager Sam Cutler - Dead at 80

    themusic.com.au
Former Rolling Stones, Grateful Dead Tour Manager Sam Cutler Passes Away
    Dan Cribb

Legendary music industry personality Sam Culter, former tour manager for The Rolling Stones and Grateful Dead, has passed away in Brisbane, aged 80.

In a statement on Cutler’s Facebook, his children, Bodhi and Chesley, confirmed that he passed away “peacefully in his sleep” on Tuesday.

“Our father was first diagnosed with cancer nearly a decade ago, and it is with gratitude that Sam's family thank the wonderful doctors, nurses, hospital staff and administrators in ALL hospitals that our father received treatment within,” they said.

“Many people from across our big beautiful world crossed paths with Sam in his life, and many more formed timeless memories with him that are each beautiful encapsulations of the man that he was.

“Sam would want nothing more for his friends to continue to form timeless memories with whomever they meet, and to share those memories with him in the next life.

“As per our father's wishes, his ashes will be scattered in the foundations of a newly constructed Buddhist temple at the Chenrezig Institute, due to be completed in 2025.

“Our family asks for privacy at this time, and we thank you all very much for your messages of support.”

It’s expected his family will detail “celebrations of life” shortly, alongside funeral details for those who were close to him.

Born in England, Cutler tour managed the Rolling Stones during their infamous 1969 tour, which culminated in a performance at the Altamont Free Concert where an 18-year-old was killed.

After that run, Cutler stayed in the US and worked closely with the Grateful Dead, before eventually relocating to Australia in the late ‘90s to live a quiet life.

In 2006, he collaborated with Melbourne outfit Black Cab, featuring on their track Valiant, throughout which he recounts his time with Grateful Dead.

He also released a book in 2008, You Can't Always Get What You Want, which has been described as “an exhilarating, access-all-areas rock memoir from someone who has seen - and done - it all”.

In a recent interview, Cutler said: “My career as a tour manager, as it were, didn’t last that long. I was involved for maybe ten, fifteen years. Then I got sick to death of it.

“At the end of working with the Grateful Dead, I was talking to myself like: ‘Well, what do you want to do?’ I certainly didn’t want to help other people realise their fantasies yet again. I’d had enough of all that.”

Just last year, he toured the east coast as an MC with Australian alt-folk singer-songwriter Jackie Marshall.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sam will be forever immortalized by being the voice that introduces one of the greatest live albums ever....

Mick Jagger and Keith Richards Statues Unveiled in Their Hometown

Statues of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were unveiled today in their hometown of Dartford,
The Guardian reports. The two Rolling Stones met as teenagers at a train station in 1961 and went
on to join the band the next year. Now they are enshrined in bronze mid-performance, destined to
stand there while tourists take photos with them. Jagger is mid-stride, lips pursed, with a microphone
in his hand. Richards is playing his Telecaster, looking down at his instrument contemplatively.

"Hot Stuff" never really worked well live, not even in the 70s. Too much of a horn section in there anyway. They were drowning out Woody's wah-wah pedal.

Are the Rolling Stones Teasing an Album Named 'Hackney Diamonds'?

The Rolling Stones may be teasing a new album.

An ad recently appeared in an English newspaper called the Hackney Gazette for a company called "Hackney Diamonds." The accompanying text, which references a few Stones songs, reads: "Our friendly staff promises you satisfaction. When you say gimme shelter, we'll fix your shattered windows." Just above the "i" in "Hackney Diamonds" is the Stones' logo; at the bottom, it reads "Est. 1962," the year the band was formed.

The ad also says "Opening September 2023."

A website has also appeared, which includes a mailing list from Universal Music, the Stones’ label. On the site, an address is listed for Mare Street in the Hackney borough of London.

It's not clear what is going on here, or even if the Stones are involved, but fans believe that "Hackney Diamonds" could be the title of the band's new album. Keith Richards said that the Stones were working on new music in 2022; it would be their first record since the death of Charlie Watts.

“It'll be interesting to find out the dynamics now that [drummer] Steve [Jordan]’s in the band," Richards admitted at the time. "It's sort of metamorphosing into something else. I was working with Mick [Jagger] last week, and Steve, and we came up with some, eight or nine, new pieces of material. Which is overwhelming by our standards."

In early 2023, it was confirmed that Paul McCartney played bass on one of the new songs. Richards has also been spotted going into New York's Electric Lady Studios, and the entire band was recently seen in New York doing a photoshoot.

Sir Paul just mentioned in a recent interview (during which he also talked about the forthcoming "new" Beatles track) that he played on the new Stones album that is coming soon (one song, at least). THIS HAS TO be an advertisement for a new LP.

    About freaking time.

I like tight 11-song LPs. Less chance of filler...a nice concise album. The Stones haven't had a tight album (10-12 songs) since STEEL WHEELS in 1989 (unless one counts the blues cover LP, which was 12 songs).

Posted by j.luisleal on Insta. Says "rumored" track list. I haven't looked at IORR to see if they disagree.

    BUT

A search of the ASCAP site shows that the Andrew Watt tracks are legit. Searched the others, they are all Jagger/Richards compositions.

Wasn't familiar with the name Andrew Watt, but apparently he's worked with a lot of people. Most of them you have probably heard of... and he's pretty much all over the map in terms of the kind of music he's been involved with.

Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing, when it comes to the amount of influence he apparently has over what will likely be the last Rolling Stones album ever.

Maybe Watt produced it. I'd like to see them get away from Don Was.

Apparently Watt's collaborations with Ozzy & Elton John both did pretty well. I haven't heard either record, but if that's the case, it might have something to do with why the Stones took him seriously as a producer.

There was some good stuff on Watt's Ozzy album (collaboration with Tony Iommi).

I've been wanting them to get away from Don Was for a while. VOODOO LOUNGE was fine...and Was is a good player on his own. But his work with The Stones has been getting way too predictable and boring for so long now.

Glad there's a new producer. I hope the album is good. VOODOO LOUNGE was the last relatively consistent Stones LP of new songs.

The stones hired Justin Bieber's producer. Oh, this will go well.

No. They hired The Wiggles' producer...so everything should go alright.

I love the Stones but their albums since Dirty Work typically had one memorable song. Memorable is relative in this context. They havent put out anything memorable in decades. Ok maybe the blues covers album is ok. Conclusion: this new material will suck too. Just give it up boys. Go back to covering blues tunes. I applaud Billy Joel who has not released any new music in 30 years because he knows he cant write anything worth listening to.
