    Jeff Beck was great.

Too bad his ego got in the way and forced Stewart and Wood to leave the band.

But then again if that had happened we never would have had the Faces.

Jeff Beck... Maybe he's the most impressive guitar player I know. I've got a good dozen albums, but my faves are "Truth", "Beck Ola", "Live with Jan Hammer", "Guitar Shop" and "Who Else".
I recorded his set at the Montreux Festival in 2001 on Swiss TV... Really awesome.
Sure as Alex underlined it he's got an oversized ego, but at least he's always kept going, unlike somebody we all know...
BTW, in an interview Jeff gave to the press in 1999 with Jimmy Page, they were both asked who was the most impressive guitarist who came after them chronologically, and Jeff said one name: EVH.

I have them but my video is a bit stained. if yours has something else and it's clean, I want a copy.

btw Beck toured Japan a few months ago. he played over the rainbow(!) and some classic tunes like morning dew or scatter brain.

Over the rainbow, he can make anything sound tremendous...
He could play We are the world and turn it into something stellar.

I'll see if a pal of mine can transfer my VHS to Dvx so that I can send it to you.
How could I not do that little something for you, Cato?

    He is fucking phenominal.

Truth. Blow By Blow. Wired. Specially Blow By Blow and Wired.

Love listening to him, still not good enough to try doing him note-for-note. Have picked out bits and pieces over the years. Only gripe with the guy is his sporatic touring nature since the Seventies.

Am not into rating guitar players...the whole 'who is better' deal never appealed to me...but out of the three players who emerged from the Yardbirds, would say tht while I dig Page's compositions, Beck was miles above Page and Clapton. The fact that Clapton gets more praise than Beck leads me to think there are many who have shit in their ears.

Jeff Beck supposedly got his sound from Ray Gomez, particularly from the song "West Side Boogie"...

i think Gomez is still bitter about the fact that Beck is the one who got all the critical acclaim...

I listened to Live with Jan Hammer's group again yesterday, and well, it's always like a new discovery... Jeff can really make his axe sound just like he wants it to.
And looking back it seems he has never stopped improving... I dig the direction he took from Guitar Shop. I see most of the stuff on Who Else and You Had It Comin' as the summit of a cycle that started on Blow By Blow thirty years ago (I'm inserting the record in my CD player right now!). And he plays it all just as masterfully on stage!
Not every musician can be said to have improved throughout their careers, I mean those who were already excellent in their early years, as Jeff was.

I have seen him live 2wice:

Had a backstage pass and 12th row seats in Kansas City, 1995 when he was opening for Santana.

Hung out with the band in the back lounge of the tour bus drinking bear and getting high while watching the best of John Belushi on video....

Did not get to meet The Great One though. Yes I was disappointed, but really cannot complain. Pino Palladino was playing bass for him on that tour, and Terry Bozzio was cool as hell. A truly nice guy who at one point stood there and talked to me for 20 minutes about music....

Then I saw him at the Ryman in March of 2001.

I think Jennifer Batten kinda muddied up the sound a bit, as she was constantly making her guitar sound like a keyboard.

    Oh well.

I surely hope to see him again in the future.

Oh, and here is a bit of trivia....he played guitar on the album by Seal that had the hit song "Kiss From A Rose" on it.

Bozzio and Palladino - can't ask for a much better rhythm section than that - caught that tour also - from where I was sitting, I could see Carlos Santana on the side of the stage watching Beck's fretboard for the whole set with a look of awe on his face.

Where Were You is probably my favourite track from him....I had no idea it was coming from a guitar at first.....it's so emotive and awe-inspiring....you don't need flash to make a good track....but it still is really hard to pull off his tracks....

    I even like the Flash-Album

Considered as a low point in Jeff´s career, it´s far above average.

People get ready - with Rod Stewart, good song
