I've always maintained that the first Montrose album was GRATE. But, I've also maintained that that was down to Ronnie Montrose and NOT Spammy Gaygar.

I've only heard the 1st Album, and it's not bad. But I'd agree with you Shaun that it's down Ronnie that it's good.

Actually if you look at the highlights of Spams career - his greatest moments are when he's had little if no input into the end product.

I don't care what anyone says. That Montrose album blows sheep balls and is a piece of shit. Again, who gives a flying fuck if Templeman produced it, it was "ahead of it's time" and VH was "modeled" after it in the studio? I call bullshit. Seriously, a spade 'tis a spade, Hag sings on it and it sucks. I downloaded it a few years back to see what the cult, hype and status was and it was naaaada. The thing sucks PERIOD and fuck me for even giving it a listen cos I never should have. Why? Cos that fucking Hagar was on it!!! That both in and of itself should have been a bright enough shade of a red (pardon the pun) flag.

The album sucks and only fucknobs trying to somehow justify Van Hagar's meaningless existence give it dues.

No offense to the musically challenged but there's a reason it never took off with the masses nor gathered any AOR radio airplay. It's a steaming pile of shit, plain and simple just like Sammy Hagar.

Oh but it looks good on you though... You listen to this album, you get a free bowl of soup?

If you are just now hearing it for the first time, yeah it sounds dated. I wouldn't buy it after first listen.

If you were hearing it years ago at the age of 14-16, it was pretty damn rocking for the time. It was re-released as one of the gold Original Master Recording series, so it obviously had an industry impact.
