    "Rainbow Rising"vs"Heaven and hell"vs"Holy diver"

    Never mind Freddie vs Dio.

Freddie never made a truely flawless classic album while Dio has appeared on three.

And had a writing credit on every single song.

So which is the best of the bunch?

This is tough, even I`m going to have to think about this.

    Well.

    I love all three.

I`m swaying towards "Rainbow Rising" because the songs and the playing are so amazing.

"Stargazer", "A light in the black", "Do you close your eyes"...

    ...all brilliant.

Blackmore, Dio, Cozy Powell, Jimmy Bain and Tony Carey...incredible band.

Where did Tony Carey disappear to?

Good question. He had some big hits in the mid 80's from a solo album and another record released under the name "Planet P Project" and then he just disappeared after that.

They should have just had him sing in Rainbow after Dio left, instead of that pussy Joe Lynn Turner, who turned them into Foreigner II.

All are good but Holy Diver still gets the most rotation on my stereo. Great head banging rock to jam on while working out.

Heaven and Hell, simply due to MR. Tony Iommi. The Iommi/Dio combination...there are no words...

Tony Carey recently did an interview, and by recently I mean a few years back, stating that he'd be happy to do a Rainbow reunion - shortly after that, Ronnie was asked about it and said that so many years have gone by, the momentum a Rainbow reunion would have had has been more or less lost, and that it was just too late to see it...

Besides, I don't honestly think anybody could convince Ritchie to do it...I guess he's satisfied selling 80 copies of each new Blackmore's Night release...

Dio could always sing on the Blackmore's Night albums. Lyrics about Rainbows and Elves and Dragons would fit that Rennaisance Fair crap perfectly

There is no such thing as a flawless album-everything can be improved. However, out of these 3-Heaven and Hell. Dio is my favourite period of Sabbath.

While you're at it, try Reunion...fucking dismal garbage....

For shock effect? Put on Dio's Evil or Divine right after Reunion and THEN tell me who's the shittiest singer.

Technical Ecstasy and Never Say Die are great albums. So is the Reunion album, pissed all over ANYTHING Dio ever did with the band. Live Evil? Fuckin ridiculous.

I said it once, I'll say it again, Dio is all about dodgy 80's hair metal, Dio didnt' save anything, he just turned Sabbath into another fuckin 80's band that should be forgotten about.

The only problem with standing up for Ozzy is that his behaviour and his fuckin family have let him down so it seems I'm into the MTV shit. I can assure you I was a fan way before Sharon forced him into all that. Thats for a different thread I guess.

Ozzy isn't the man he was 30 years ago, but he fuckin owns Dio.

Just listen to Sabotage, Volume 4 or Past Lives.

They're piles of shit put to tape.

    So is the Reunion album,

If you listen to Tony, Geezer and Bill only and turn the vocals all the way off.

Fucking dymanic would be more accurate.

No, he reinvigorated Tony Iommi's playing and brought out the absolute best musically. How long were Tony and Geezer going to have to dumb down their playing for Ozzy to perform around, anyway?

Let's not forget that Ronnie's an actual MUSICIAN who can work with MUSICIANS and not rely on somebody else to write everything for him so that his cunt of a wife can steal all the credit and slap it on her husband after the fact.

Ronnie James Dio was the first REAL lead singer Sabbath ever had.

You can say it over and over again, but it doesn't give it any credit or accuracy.

The only problem with standing up for Ozzy is that his behaviour and his fuckin family have let him down so it seems I'm into the MTV shit. I can assure you I was a fan way before Sharon forced him into all that. Thats for a different thread I guess.

Oh please...Ozzy can't even own his bladder these days. Dio's pipes are as good as they were in 1975 and Ozzy pisses himself on stage. Don't even talk about owning.

Ozzy was never a good vocalist, nor was he a musician, nor was he a lyricist. He was along for the ride, essentially.

Just listen to Sabotage, Volume 4 or Past Lives.

    And thank Geezer and Tony.

Im not to sure about the comment "turned Sabbath into another fuckin 80's band that should be forgotten about."

Im sorry..but Heaven and Hell is a great album.

I saw Dio live several times in the mid 80's and he put on a pretty good show.

Dont get me wrong,I never did really care for the stuff he wrote about, you know, wizards dragons wolves, fuck I dont want to listen to dungeons and dragons rock.

That being said, after Heaven and Hell came out,the only Dio song with Sabbath I cared about is 'Mob Rules'

Give the whole album a spin. You won't regret it. It's better than most of the Ozzy/Sabbath catalog, I shit you not.

    And on that note:

Yup, whole album. I STILL play the shit out of that thing, never get tired of listening to it. I prefer it heads and tails over Heaven and Hell, I feel that strongly about it.

Definitely a pinnacle moment in the careers of Ronnie, Tony and Geezer.

The flaw on "Heaven And Hell" is "Wishing Well".

    I don't know, I like it.

Granted, not the strongest song on the album, but overall I don't have a problem with it.

I know what you mean about the "Reunion" album, Bob.

"War pigs": Ozzy is so out of tune I can`t force myself to listen to it again.

"Sabbath bloody sabbath": Why include a song that you can`t sing anymore?

That was in `98, Ozzy`s voice must be shot to bits now.

He couldn`t even hit the high notes on "Symptom of the universe" from "Talk of the Devil" and that was in `82!

Trust me...you don't even want to know...it's flat out embarassing and I had more fun seeing them in '95 with Tony Martin.

Protoolzzy Osbourne isn't worth anything live...I've actually SEEN Tony wince with pain while he's on stage and Ozzy's voice is breaking all over the place...

There's also something to be said about a performer dependent on teleprompters for material he SHOULD fucking know, considering he originally RECORDED the songs, no?

Let's be realistic here...Ozzy is fucking done...and he's been done for years...

I'll give credit where credit is due - as a frontman for a band, few have ever done it better. Ozzy, in his heyday, could get a crowd fired up like NONE OTHER - and for that (and his off the stage antics), he'll always be a legend.

But - I don't fool myself about him or his contributions to either Black Sabbath or the Ozzy Osbourne/Blizzard of Ozz band...because they were, at the end of the day, non-existant, at least musically. Humming a verse for your bass player (Butler or Daisley) to write words around does not a lyricist make, and it's that simple. And the "Bring in the Writing Team" country-western style approach of the mid 90s to his albums up to today? Don't even get me started on that bullshit...

I love Ozzy/Sabbath so much it'd make your head spin, trust me - but when it comes to raw talent as a lead singer/lyricist, and functionality in that position today - Ronnie can't be beat.

Honest to God, I really hope Tony and Geezer sit down and work out a viable plan with Ronnie before "The Dio Years" comes out to make Ronnie's return a permanent one. The only statement they need to make about it would be: "It was great touring with Ozzy again, and giving the younger generation of Sabbath fans something they always wanted to see, but it's simply time to move on and we feel we've still got a lot of quality work that we can do with Ronnie James Dio - work that's been waiting to happen for far too long. Best of luck to Ozzy and his family, signed, Tony and Geezer" (because Bill will be gone if Ozzy's gone, that simple).

I am SINCERELY hoping this happens - this is right on par with me for a classic VH reunion - VERY close in importance level.

I liked the Speak of the devil album..

I still dont know why Brad Gillis left Ozzy for freakin Nightranger of all bands

I also think that Jake E.Lee is a very under-rated axeman
