"May your shit come to life and kiss you on the face." - Frank Zappa to Tipper Gore
Looks like the work of a guy who had nothing better to do, so he just gathered a bunch of songs, making sure that he blasted at least one solo by every major guitar god (surprised Hendrix got off scott-free).
I'd put more stock in his list if the guy knew that the song is (ANESTHESIA) Pulling Teeth by Metallica, rather than ANASTASIA..
Dopey list.
Stay Frosty, muthas!
Yeah, it is a shit list.
Gilmour`s "Comfortably numb", Skynrds "Freebird" and anything by Steve Howe have been revered enough by guitarists the world over to having one fucking idiot trying to shoot them down.
If I could nominate a couple myself:
"Train kept a rollin`" by Aerosmith from "Classics live": This is my number one all time shitty guitar solo. I`m guessing it was Jimmy Crespo that played it. It is so out of tune and unmelodic that it sprung to mind when I read the title of this thread.
"Machine gun" by Jimi Hendrix from "Live at the Isle of Wight": Compared to the version that`s on "Band of gypsies", which features perhaps his greatest guitar solo, this is rubbish. It never catches fire and goes on and on, evn picking up some walky talkys from backstage. This is Hendrix at his worst.
Any thing from "Animalize" by Kiss: God knows why Kiss picked Mark St John as their lead guitarist. Yes, he could play fast but the guy didn`t have clue about structuring a solo. Shite.
Anything by Zakk Wylde with Ozzy: I`ve never heard BLS so I can`t say anthing about that stuff but from his stuff with Ozzy he appears to be the most tasteless guitar player. It`s a pity because he can really play and can nail Rhoades and Jake E lee`s solos perfectly. When plays his own solos it makes me want to puke. All those pinched harmonics...uhhh!

073: Van Halen
Van Halen
[Warner Bros; 1978]
It's amazing that the Sammy Hagar v. Diamond Dave debates even take place. Perhaps the David Lee Roth haters are motivated by poor Dave's more recent car-wreck public appearances or an inability to see the worth in aerobic kicks and bare-chested catsuits, but one look at Van Hagar's idiotic robotic choreographed strut or the band lounging poolside at Cabo Wabo should settle the argument once and for all. Besides, it's a bit off the mark to criticize Roth for a lack of earnestness; when his tongue wasn't in the mouth of a groupie, it was usually in his cheek.
That big-grinned spirit infused the best of Van Halen's music, a time when Dave would use "rock and roll" as an adjective and it all still seemed somehow engaging and mythical. Eddie Van Halen did more than his share to prop up the myth, of course, making "Eruption" the amateur axeman's white whale and becoming the closest thing that my generation had to a guitar god. Never mind punk-- here's "Atomic Punk". And "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love". And "Jaime's Cryin'". And "Runnin' with the Devil"... --Scott Plagenhoef
Correction they did put Van Halen on the list AT 73?!?!?!?
Crespo wasn't anything amazing, but neither is Joe Perry when it comes to guitar solos. The guy has written some killer riffs, but his solos have always sucked.Originally posted by Mr Badguy

Kinda liked some spots of Machine Gun at the Isle Of Wight. But agreed that there are plenty of spots in that song that are dodgy. Hendrix wasn't really at the peak of his powers that night. The Band of Gypsys Machine Gun solo is fucking astounding.
Mark St. John was shit, but then so was Bruce Kulick. Vinnie Vincent...that dude just makes me laugh for some reason. With that pink RR Jackson and that fuckin' dew hairsprayed to hell...oh, man!
Zakk...I dunno. He's okay. Don't think he's quite as talented as the amount of Guitar World covers he's graced would lead one to think. Still, he's miles better than Jake E. Lee was in Ozzy. Jake isn't a bad player, but he played some real garbage in terms of solos while in Ozz's band. Talking about the Ultimate Sin stuff, mostly.
Actually, it's a decent list. Yeah it has some crap like Fleetwood Mac and far too much Floyd and Zeppelin, but anyone who has the sense to put the stones, nick drake, and a bowie album besided Ziggy Stardust in their top 10 is pretty fucking hip as far as I'm concerned.Originally posted by Unchainme

I got as far as "Comfortably Numb" and stopped reading.
Granted, I've hated David Gilmour from the mid-80's right up until July 2, 2005 for what he did to Pink Floyd, but there's no question that song is one of the greatest recorded solos in history.
And if Gilmour really had a hard time playing it in the studio, he certainly had it down at Live 8.

Neil Young is the WORST guitar soloist to have ever been considered some kind of musical "icon".
He plays solos like Bob Dylan mumbles lyrics.
I don't tolerate this!
Mick Ronson should not be on that list!

Worst of all... It's true..
Yeah this guy is a dork who wrote this,if memory serves me right,Adrain Vandenberg didnt even play the RECORDED version of "Here I Go Again" (nor did Vivan Campbell for that matter)
John Sykes played guitar on the ALBUM version, but was let go,and THEN Vandenberg/Campbell joined.
FRANK ZAPPA's WILLIE THE PIMP solo is maybe my favorite guitar solo ever.
This idiot can shove his demented, holier-than-thou list up his ass...

Actually, the dork got that one right. Vandenberg was not an official member of the band when the album was made, but he DID play the solo on that particular cheese ballad. His credit is in the fine print under the lyrics to the song.Originally posted by Bootyac

I guess Mick Mars is to insignificant to mention. Otherwise all his solos should fill up the top 50 list
Where are Michael Angelo Batio solos on that list?

Amen. Makes Nigel Tufnel look melodic by comparison.
"27. "Sucker in a 3-Piece" by Van Halen
Soloist: Eddie Van Halen
Album: OU812
Year: 1988
Sure, ol' Eddie has had his moments-- he flaunts his nimble fingertips on early VH instrumentals like "Cathedral" and "Eruption." Yet he's probably one of the worst group players in history. To anyone whose higher brain functions have developed beyond a sixth grade level, these aforementioned instrumentals must seem like empty, childish pleas for attention. Eddie is all about showy technique that elicits a lot of "Wow, dude's" from hyperactive, misguided suburban adolescents. But at least this kind of technically- obsessive masturbation was somewhat original for its time. On "Sucker in a 3-Piece" Eddie relies on hyperbolic whammy-bar hijinks without really "playing" much of anything. Unable to break out of the stylistic prison he locked himself in years before, he's seen here as just another aging rock virtuoso making stale rock- god gestures on yet another incredibly forgettable Van Halen album."
OU812 and above were forgettable! i love this because look at what album it occured uponANASTASIA!Originally posted by Mr. Vengeance

CUNTS....
Since we are discussing solos...I think one of my favorites has to be the fuzztone solo on Led Zeppelin's "Fool in the Rain"...something about that solo and how simple it is, and how it fit in a mellower tune, always struck me.
