I finally saw the Some Kind of Monster documentary over the weekend, Good viewing. Any hardcore fans know exactly what went down with Jason Newstead? Why did he leave? The band seemed to take quite a few shots at him during the film.

I read somewhere that he wanted to play music like in their original stuff and was tired of the shit they were recording at the moment.

I really love you baby, I love what you've got
Let's get together we can, Get hot
It was alright.
It is something I think the band should of not released though.
I could not believe how whinny Kirk is...

Gotta give Jason props....
Hetfield's and Ulrich's egos are COMPLETELY out of control, as exhibited all during that documentary...

I thought it was a great movie. An excellent documentary. And it made me appreciate the band even more.
I was a huge fan as a teen and still love them. The new album is their best in years and the film only made me respect the shit they went through.

Jason's replacement must be wondering what happened to the kick-unit that rocked with white-hot shit a la Ride The Lightning.
Am not a fan of Bob Rock (yeah, yeah, I know he produced ALAE) to begin with...I dunno. Guess it was interesting to see, but haven't had any use for Metallica since Master Of Puppets anyway. Hetfield seems like a cool enough guy, but Ulrich has always come across like a dickhead, and Kirk is way overrated IMO. Jason just got tired of dealing with them is what it boiled down to.
Scramby eggs and bacon.
I've always been rather indifferent to them. I've always thought Lars was a whiny bitch. The other guys were OK.
Ulrich is one of the worst drummers in the business, Hetfield was/is a control freak who pretty much single-handedly drove Newsted out of the band, Hammet was a decent guitar player about 10 years ago. New bass player, Trujillo, is pretty good.

Load and ReLoad are good rock albums...if you do not think about their first albums these 2 are very good.
That's sorta the same thing I was thinking....Originally posted by Terry

The 1982 version of Metallica would be fucking shocked seeing how childlish they act just trying to make a fucking album nowadays....
How bout that scene with lars and mustaine? I was waiting for Dave to flip...
Gee, I'm sorry. All those times I've been enjoying that album in the car, I must have been wrong.Originally posted by EbDawson

I couldn't make it through Load or Reload. Also, I got sick of them after hearing the black album every night I went down to the local billiards dive in 1991.
I liked "Spinal Tap" better!
Always looked up to you Rikk. Sort of a blow to hear you're so into SA. Kind of like finding out Babe Ruth used steroids.Originally posted by Rikk

Actually since re-load was released in '97 I believe, SA probably was metallica's best album in years. Since 97 anyway. Not counting that gay-ass symphony album.
Well the guitar tone on load and re-load was better. I have to admit I've always liked Hero of the Day. Understand for me to say load and re-load is better than SA is extremely relative. They dumped the guitar solos and Lar's drum tone sounds like he recorded inside a dumpster in the alley behind a lard-rendering plant.Originally posted by Diver Down NJ

That movie of Metallica is funnier than "Spinal Tap"! I think some of you wanted to see something that hasn't been there for a very long time. They've turned into what the hated all along and there it is on film for them to view 24-7!
Lars is a griping bitch with a loud screech in his voice.
James is all in touch with his "inner-voice" and acts like less of a man than the band's head doc!
Kirk is a fag and will always live in Dave Mustaine's shadow.
Robert is lucky to have a paying gig with residuals.
Face it...the fucking band we knew DIED with Burton. If he was alive right now can you imagine how different that movie would've played out? He would've beaten James and Lars to death with his bass put his foot so far up Kirk's ass that he'd wear him like a pair of hip waders and run off to join Megadeth!
I forgot to add that Jason has got to be laughing his ass off at them.
Yeah but the thing is they didn't intend it to be a comedy!Originally posted by DrMaddVibe

Some dude, was it you, wrote that their next tour should be sponsered by Kotex. Funny shit!
Naw...that wasn't me...funny though.

I think the sound was too slick for Metallica. Song-wise, you could make an argument that the best songs from both albums could've been combined to make one good album. But as it is, we got a bunch of shitty outtakes.Originally posted by EbDawson

The sound on St. Anger isn't perfect, but the vibe on that record is totally kick ass and raw.

I still like the black album. Can't really stand anything after that.
SKOM is one of the WIMPIEST & whiniest documentaries I have ever seen in rock because Hetfield couldn't handle the professional tension with his bandmate Ulrich so he goes to a therapist, which is laughable, Gimme Shelter is better than this crap.
Before i start this is not a shot at James hetfields personality. A life of having your ass kissed and being famous dont help your ability to take a step back and look at your actions.
Lets stsrt with him kicking mustaine out of the band. My understanding is that mustaine was on drugs yeah (heroin. PLease correct me if im wrong). Years later hetfield is off to rehab for alchaholism.
Fast forward to when newstead was given the ass. Newstead wanted to take a break for a year and then come back to metallica. Hetfield being the control freak he is said no. So newstead said goodbye.
2 years later james hetfield takes off for a YEAR AND A HALF, DURING THE RECORDING OF AN ALBUM. and leavs everyone else high and dry so he can focus EVEN MORE ON HIMSELF.
He is, not intentionaly a hypocrit. He has no empathy for anyone else he only looks at things from his perspective.
LOL just my take on it anyway
