Now, who's going to win the Cup?

It should logically be Brasil, the organizers, but...

I see Belgium will be there, it's been such a long time since they last had a strong team, 1986... I hope they'll do well.

Maybe a couple of African teams will play their cards well.

The Germans, the Portuguese, the Italians and the Spannish will very probably go very far - maybe the Dutch and the English will too.
It seems to be very open anyway.

I'll wait till I see what team plays the catchiest game to have one to support.

Now this asshole wants another term as FIFA president:

    http://www.espnfc.com/news/story/_/i...sident?cc=5901

Sepp Blatter to stand for re-election
    May 10, 2014

    By Stephan Uersfeld, Germany Correspondent

The 78-year-old, who was speaking during a public discussion with Switzerland coach Ottmar Hitzfeld in Zurich, said he will seek re-election in May 2015.

"I want to do it," he said in Swiss newspaper Blick. "Because it is not over yet. My term might come to an end, but my mission is not finished."

Blatter, who had first joined FIFA in 1975 and took over the presidency from Joao Havelange in 1998, had earlier indicated that he was ready to stand down when his current term ends but more recently said he could continue.

UEFA president Michel Platini, who had been thought the most likely candidate to succeed Blatter, has yet to announce whether he will put his name forward for next year's elections but told Le Parisien last month he was confident he would be successful.

Meanwhile, Blatter also looked ahead to this summer's World Cup in Brazil during the event at the Ringier Pressezentrum.

"That's my 10th World Cup," he said. "My first one was in 1978. Brazil -- that will be something gigantic, something grand."

He played down fears that the tournament could be overshadowed by riots after the problems that occurred during the Confederations Cup in the country last year.

"Four years ago, ahead of the South Africa World Cup, everyone said that it's going to be dangerous everywhere. Nothing happened," Blatter said.

Another good thing about the World Cup is that my local club (Atlanta Silverbacks) will be playing a depleted Real Salt Lake team consisting mostly of a reserve squad, in the 4th round of the U.S. Open Cup (The American equivalent to the FA Cup). Which is the first time they will go up against an MLS team at Silverbacks Park.

I wonder what the fuck is going to happen if Brazil plays against Argentina? BTW, I bet those English soccer hooligans (or BNP voters as they are referred to in the off-season) will be traveling to Brazil this year, since they aren't banned in that country.

    Well then, go Atlanta!

But how come such a big city as Atlanta doesn't have a stronger team yet? I know the US are only beginning to take notice of soccer,
but it seems to be taking some time.

How is the American team doing this time? I see they're in group G with Germany, Portugal and Ghana: it will be tough!

The Atlanta Silverbacks are a second-tier club in the NASL. Which is the equivalent to Ligue 2, SkyBet Championship, Serie B, etc. I have heard rumors of Atlanta having an MLS expansion team in the near future and will play at the Georgia Dome when the NFL team leaves, but I can't confirm if this is true.

In Group G, I'm not worried about Germany since the head coach of team USA use to play for them. Ghana kept the USA out of the quarterfinals last time, so that team will be a pain in the ass to beat. As for Portugal, that will be unpredictable since the record between them is 2-2-1. They just have to avoid contact with that pussy Ronaldo.

Now this is a fairly good record vs Portugal!

Avoiding contact with Ronaldo... ... while not giving him too much room, hard task. I'll watch that particular match thinking about it for sure!

I forgot to mention that USA defeated Germany 4-3 last year in DC for an international friendly which coincided with the 100th anniversary of the US Soccer Federation.

How will DLN comment this result? I'm curious.

Seriously, I wish the US team the best anyway.

I hope your team is training in French Guiana before heading to Brazil. Otherwise, you're going to wind up with a bunch of French men passing out from heat stroke. Which is what happened to the Norway team when they played in Los Angeles during the 1994 World Cup.

I just love his excuse. That he wants an Arab nation to win because he is Arab as well. Last time I checked he was born in France of Algerian descent, and most of them are Berber. Not to mention that a lot of Algerians are probably working in Qatar under slave-like conditions.

He's a Kabyle, even, that is not an Arab indeed.

As for the French team, I don't see them go very far beyond their group (the weakest of all, BTW).

The French team played splendid games between 1982 and 1986 - 2 semi finals, European and Olympic champions in '84. The players were gentlemen, compared to those who have been part of it since 2002.

The Zidane years were great too - '98 world champions, European champions in 2000... But I'd rather remember the Platini years, they had something more.

Here they beat Brasil after a sensational match. Goalkeeper Joel Bats played incredibly well. A great memory - I would support them back then as they had panache.

I can't support Holland until he gets injured or suspended.

I'm going to be in Italy for the last week of the tournament so they're my team this time around.

Also they are in England's group...

I guess if I was Dutch I would have to overlook it like I had to with Graeme Souness being a dick back in the day.

Looks like he may not live long enough to play anyway if his team mates get their way...

World Cup 2014: Dirk Kuyt 'tries to drown' Arjen Robben as Holland stars hit the beach in Rio

    Jun 10, 2014 18:04 By Liam Prenderville

Louis van Gaal's men are preparing for their opener with Spain on Friday but took time out to go for a dip, with the two players enjoying something of a wrestle

Dirk Kuyt has nailed his colours to the mast in the Robben vs Martins Indi rivalry by trying to 'drown' the Bayern Munich winger!

Holland's preparations for the World Cup looked to have been threatened by yet more in-camp fighting when the two players clashed in training over the weekend.

Martins-Indi unsurprisingly played down the incident as Louis van Gaal's men get set for their Group B opener with 2010 champions Spain on Friday.

And after giving his stars some time out after touching down in Rio, there appeared to be some even more fighting, this time in the sea between Robben and Kuyt.

Fortunately, the duo were only enjoying something of a wrestle but it remains to be seen whether Martins-Indi put the ex-Liverpool man up to the antics.
