Nah...no myth.

That was from the 1978 tour. He had the same getup when I saw them in Seattle in September of '78.

No echoplex, or variac in that picture.
I do see two of those univox things, one with cords pluged in,and I guess the other is a spare.
The other two cords are AC power for both units.
What did they do, just roll that thing out there for the solo?,or was that up there the whole time?

...It's on the stage in the '78 Fresno 'Eruption' boot. He manipulates the speed on the Univox Echo at the end of the solo....get that vid if you can....Eddie's on fucking FIRE!!

I just got that one recently too...first time I saw it I had a total flashback to being 13 and hearing the LP version for the 1st time...I was grinning ear to ear, couldn't HELP myself....that's the shit.
