    1972 Dolphins Suck Ass

That's right. In 1998, when the Broncos lost their bid to complete their perfect season, Bob Griese is dancing up a storm and giving everyone high fives in the private box. Uh, dude...you're cheering a loss for your son's team!?

What a loser! Our CFL (BC Lions) GM, Bob Ackles, who worked in the Miami Dolphins front office for many years, was there with Bob that day, and could not believe his actions.

What kind of man puts his own accomplishments ahead of those of his own son??

I for one would want better for my children than what I have done.

I am a Dolphins fan but have no love for these losers who hoist the champagne every time a great team loses a game and fails to match the record of that 1972 team.

You have got to be kidding me!

Max...your own son plays for the team that can equal a great accomplishment...and you CHEER when he fails ?????

Wow. If I don't help my family to accomplish MORE than I...then I have failed as a human.

How does Bob Griese look at himself in the mirror? Can't understand it.

Take pride in your accomplishments for sure. But to cheer when others fail to equal yours seems very petty and weak.

What do you mean, fail? Didn't they win the Super Bowl that year? So they didn't go undefeated, big deal. They got their rings which is what counts.

If it's no big deal then why uncork the champagne every time a team poised to match that undefeated mark, fails.

Face it, it is weak. Fuckers do it every year another team has a good run and Griese is the biggest loser of them all.

    You're missing the point...

    1. When will the '72 Dolphins pop those champagne corks this season?

    Bob Griese
    Neil Leifer/Sports Illustrated
Answer: By now you know the petty little tradition. On the day the NFL's last remaining unbeaten goes down to defeat, a handful of '72 Dolphins, led by their head coach Don Shula, get together to toast their 17-0 perfect season and thank the football gods that their unique claim to fame has lasted yet another year.

Anything to keep the legend of Garo Yepremian alive and kicking.

Uh, yeah...what a bunch of fucking losers!!!

    http://espn.go.com/magazine/jump_021016_dateline.html

The 1972 Miami Dolphins continued their tradition Sunday night, as many of the players gathered in the bingo lounge to celebrate 30 years of being the only unbeaten team in NFL history.

Following the Oakland Raiders' 28-13 setback to the St. Louis Rams, every team in the NFL now has at least one loss, meaning the '72 Dolphins' perfect 17-0 mark remains intact for at least another year.

Don't ask Garo to toss you a beer -- it'll probably be intercepted.
As the players counted down the last few seconds of the Raiders game, star safety Jake Scott, wearing Sansabelts, white loafers and his old No. 13 jersey, popped open a bottle of champagne and shouted, "Long live the undefeated Miami Dolphins of ... hey, what year was it again?"

The players then formed a conga line and danced around the room shouting, "Thirty years! Thirty years ! Thirty years!" They were forced to stop, however, when one of the nurses told the men they needed to quiet down, because "not everyone in the home was a member of the Dolphins."

Gnomelike ex-kicker Garo Yepremian admitted that many of the players still haven't lost their competitive spirit, even after all these years. "Of course we'd like to keep our record for as long as we can," he said. "Hey, would you like to buy a tie?"

When asked how the players would feel if the current Dolphins had been the last undefeated team remaining, former guard Bob Kuechenberg said, "Please don't misunderstand. Current players ... alumni ... we're all part of the Dolphin family. In fact, we'd like nothing better than to see the Dolphins of today carry on the great tradition we established in the '70s. Having said that, however, if they were say, 15-0, I'd have no problem setting Ricky Williams' hair on fire on game day."

Before singing Reunited on Earl Morral's karaoke machine, ex-safety Dick Anderson said, "We're not bitter old men like everybody thinks. But the fact is, I had my hair taken away early. And I'm not going to lose this."

Former defensive end Vern Den Herder said, "I realize it may seem like we're here to celebrate others failing. But it's not about that at all. It's about the spirit of our greatness, and how a remarkable group of men joined together to do something that even to this day, has never been duplicated." He then put his teeth back in his mouth, cracked a beer and shouted to no one in particular, "Parity kicks ass!"

The players said they're not sure where they'll gather if they have a chance to celebrate next year, although the Bob Evans in Boynton Beach was mentioned on more than one occasion. "Free refills on coffee," said ex-running back Jim Kiick.

Dude, during that season Brian was the fucking third string, didn't even fuckin' play. I bet Bob would have acted differently if Brian would have been the starter.

Also, did you ever play footy growing up? I did and can only imaginr the feeling of having that "perfect" season. I'd want it to remain as well. It has/had nothing to do with wanting Brian to fail.

It's competition and a drive. Fuck, Brian and Bob respect the fuck out of one another. I could go off on the family charity they have together but that's an entirely different story.

    How about this...

When Brian joined The Dolphins two years ago, Bob wanted Brian to wear his (Bob's) retired number 12. Brian graciously declined cos he wanted his own accomplishments to be his own and not his HOF father's.

Both of the Griese's are good guys. IMO

No offense but I just don't think you get it.

Didn't Brian's alcohol problems start about this time?

Could be no connection, but I can't say I would be too happy if my own Dad was jumping for joy when my team lost , regardless of the reason.

And yes Max, I too played sports at a high level and know what it takes to achieve championships.

It is fucked and so is those old farts popping champagne every year!
I have no respect for them. Almost makes me want to burn my Dolphins gear.

Sorry Max, I'm not the one who doesn't get it. I just think I am living the right way, wanting more for those I bring into the world, than I want for myself.

I remember this as well, and I was irritated much as you were.

I'm glad the Colts lost today though. I f'ing hate the Colts.

    Go Broncos!

    LOL.

Didn't he blame a black eye on his dog tripping him down the stairs, when it turns out that he mouthed off to one of his O-lineman at a party and got clocked?

    Good times.

Brian's alcohol "problems" started prior to being with The Broncos. Goes back to Michigan.

Regardless, he's a good guy, has turned his life around and is now married. I wish him luck in Tampa. He was rockin' too until the injury.

I understand you, I really do but it's a legacy. I mean those '72 Dolphins have had it for years. It's a big deal to the old farts. lmao

Shit, when The Broncos went 13-0 in '98 I fuckin' cried when The Giants beat them.

I guess I'm just defending 'ol Bob cos I read it that you were saying that he was cheering Brian's "failure?"

    I just don't agree.

It may have been a different story had Brian been the starter, hard to say. His drinking problems did really begin at U of M, I believe he threw a chair through the front window of a bar when they stopped serving him, something to that effect.

Ol' Bob might have been secretly pulling for the kid anyway, who knows, but could save face with the rest of the '72 boys when they lost.

It's gets a little old sometimes, but don't have a problem with it. You have to look at it for what it is, they only played 14 games back then. I will be glad when and if a team does do it, but in the parity rich NFL, who knows if it ever will.

Like Eb says, now the Colts can get down to business of putting that ring on.

They have the receivers, the running backs, a good defence, and now an ok qb in Rosenfels, if they have the courage to start him

They need someone new, and I've read that they love the guy they got from the Chargers in the Feeley trade, Lemon.

Rosenfels has never gotten the chance granted, but he has been to many training camps and if he hasn't started for anyone, there has to be a reason.

I think Ricky will stay. Quite the backfield, even if Ricky only breaks one big run a game. Still a game breaker and with Brown closing in on a 1000 yard season, I like their backfield.

Well, at least you were good enough to be there.

Dolphins could never beat Kelly and co., for fuck sakes!

I think the bigger travesty is Hull's "goal".

I don't even recognize that year in terms of a Cup
