(sorry for the TYPO)
IF...VH put a cover on the new album, may I suggest a VH rocked out version of Philly Freedom??
The vocal range works for Dave's current voice. Plus, the lyrics pretty much describe DLR's life.
Strings get subbed for guitar overdubs with some sustain (gives Eddie a chance to play with the trans-trem like on MWM).
Eddie gets to add a psychedelic new solo to the song like back in the club days
Philadelphia Freedom
Released as a UK single in February, 1975
Music: Elton John
Lyrics: Bernie Taupin
I used to be a rolling stone
You know if the cause was right
I'd leave to find the answer on the road
I used to be a heart beating for someone
But the times have changed
The less I say the more my work gets done
`Cause I live and breathe this Philadelphia freedom
From the day that I was born I've waved the flag
Philadelphia freedom took me knee-high to a man
Yeah gave me peace of mind my daddy never had
Oh Philadelphia freedom shine on me, I love you
Shine a light through the eyes of the ones left behind
Shine a light shine a light
Shine a light won't you shine a light
Philadelphia freedom I love you, yes I do
If you choose to you can live your life alone
Some people choose the city
Some others choose the good old family home
I like living easy without family ties
Till the whippoorwill of freedom zapped me
Right between the eyes

Was listening to this tonight & could really imagine VH doing it. But would need MA's backing vox for sure But Eddie doing his thing to the cool little riff, and Dave would own this song. I dont know. It's late & I'm drunk with a Valium to boot....so maybe I'm way off. Glad the groan button is gone.

for shits and giggles i think they should cover F.I.N.E. by aerosmith.pretty fitting title to describe a few members of the Van Halen camp.
I really love you baby, I love what you've got
Let's get together we can, Get hot
Enough good ideas for VH cover songs so they have to come up with an double-cd // cd 1 with new songs cd 2 with cover songs and they'll have millions of happy fans ( and $ )
This is Shangri La by Mother Love Bone. That singer had some DLR influence goin'. They'd rip it up good I'd bet.
If it comes down being "current", let VH blast away on this. Streamlined, of course...or maybe not.
Whatever, play this shit LOUD!
Just been listening to Aerosmith and could not help think Dave's voice would sound cool on Voodoo Medacine man.Dunno 'bout the rest of them,Im sure Ed could tap his way through the song
They should cover themselves:

Yesterday I've heard a song from "JJ Cale" on the radio and this one would have fit on Dave's last solo cd ( Diamond Dave)
Name of the song????

"COCAINE"
"stay while the night is young"duuuuh
One of the last Brian Wilson-authored Beach Boys song...wonder what it would sound like with DLR & EVH? timely lyrics too.

I want to hear them do Tommy Bolin's "The Grind" exactly how they did it way back when. "The Fool & Me" by Robin Trower would work.
This could be a good surprise choice. Fairly unknown track, so they could pull it off as their own:

Oh dear.
Starwood thinks this thread is for cock choking homo dick lickers....and he just had to post.
Helping RothTards speak in the 3rd person since 2004!
Always thought that Van Halen would really kick some ass with Dave on vocals to this song and Eddie giving it his own personal touch...can you imagine how they could rock out live to it! Another cool choice would be some Rolling Stones, like Monkey Man or TNA (She's my little rock n roll)

Anyone? Anyone? Check my user name... I'm thinkin' The Kinks' "I Need You". Ties in historically with the previous 2 Kinks covers. Used to beg for "All Day and All of the Night", but when I heard this old gem, it had CVH written all over it! Discuss...
In keeping with the train theme... I think they could do a KICK-ASS cover of Johnny Cash's "Folsom Blues".
"Ya know what they say about angels... An angel is a supernatural being or spirit, usually humanoid in form, found in various religions and mythologies. Plus Roth fan boards..."- ZahZoo April 2013
Fuck covers !! Diver Down did too much of that when you hear all the great unreleased stuff they wrote that kicked ass !! Ed said Dave was into all the covers & wanted the band too go in the dirrection of Fair Warning. If thats true it was Daves biggest mistake when he was in the band besides quiting !!
Sweet christ after all this time, fuck all with cover tunes... Unless it's an Aretha Franklin b-side or.... back to the Kinks well... All Of The Day And All Of The Night is YRGM Part II....
Or, and here is where it gets interesting... "Think I'm In Love" by Edward Money. Yes! You heard it here! Oooh... something's got a hold on me now!!!!
Wait.. Sammy's not in the band anymore... scratch that last one...
That is all.

My version of Edward Money's "I Think I'm In Love"
Oooh, something's got a hold of me now,
It's a feeling, burning like a blunt on fiiire!
Grab a light babe,
Gotta avoid the police tonight,
Cuz I don't think I can make it thru the night!
I think I'm on drugs
And my life's looking' up!
I think I'm on drugs,
Cuz I can't get enough!
It's gotta be drugs!!!!
I think I'm on drugs and I must be high right now!
(Drug addled solo and shit)
Verse
Chorus

Repeat
Outro
That is all.

I would like to hear Dave sing Winning by Santana
I always thought that song sounded like Journey. Which is ironic because Journey was a spinoff of the original Santana lineup.
Just did an ASCAP search for songs written by EVH.. I'm not familiar with these song titles....
Blood From a Stone
Jump To The Beat
Never Let You Go
Twist The Knife
Window
Are these song titles that were changed or new songs. FORD, I'm looking at you here.

i've been on the ASCAP site this week too. found one that was listed as incidental music or something for a movie soundtrack. and i think Jump To The Beat is a rap song, probably has a VH sample in it (likely Jump?) so they get credit as writers.
there are a few songs written by Dave (with others) that were registered, maybe they were used on the BBQ video, or never used at all.
