    Rock Star

Just watched the movie on VH1 like at 1 o'clock in the morning last night. I must say the movie was auctually kind of interesting, Except for the part that Mark Wahlberg was casted as THE LEAD ROLE, They screwed up Big Time by doing that, I mean the guy DEFINITLY was not raised by Heavy Metal music. And he acts like a complete wuss the whole time. I liked the fact that they recruited Jason Bonham and Zakk Wylde in the movie, But What The Fuck? Mark Wahlberg are you fucking serious. Anyways I just found this interesting, What was everyones thoughts on the movie.
Still waiting for a relevant Browns Team

I thought the movie was mildly amusing - not worth seeing twice but it didn't suck. Mark Wahlberg was decent, I think he is a better actor than "musician" or whatever you want to call what he did when he was known as "Marky Mark" - he was awesome in Boogie Nights which if you haven't seen I would highly recommend that you rent tonight!

I really liked the film. I thought the music was pretty damn good..the story...not bad at all. Rented it when it first came out...bought it a couple of weeks later. I dont look at it as a film based on heavy metal....I took it more as someone who was really into a metal group and got the chance of a lifetime. There were some really good moments and some that kinda made me cringe. All in all it's definatly worth a viewing. I see where you're coming from with Mark Walberg as the lead (singer) though...but to be honest...I never liked the guy until I caught Boogie Nights...one of the best films ever made. From that point on I liked the guy. The way I look at it..if you can act you can act...period. Speaking of Boogie Nights...I';m about to start a thread...rock on UNCHAINME!!! PS)Watch it again...uncut. RENT IT.

At the risk of sounding like an idiot... I just found out about a month ago that Rock Star was based on Tim "Ripper" Owen and how he was picked to replace Rob Halford. The movie was kind of lame though...

I kinda dug the soundtrack. Mike Matjevic has some pipes. A couple of those tunes were stuck in my head when I saw it. Then I found out Roy wrote "Stand UP And Shout" and I did until I blew out my own eardrums as punishment for having that on a constant loop without commercials for about 24 hours straight. It was only the second time I wished the ringing in my ears would just make my head explode so I wouldn't have to listen to that shit. The first was hearing Scott Stapp open his mouth to talk let alone sing.

Yes but At least they featured Ralph From The Atomic Punks cover of Dave's Cover of California Girls. Kinda Hard to believe Hagar would auctually write something other than a pussy love ballad. I auctually kinda like the song auctually jsut creeps me out Hagar wrote the song.

Love Steel Dragon's cover of Rainbow's "Long Live Rock n Roll".
Bonzo's son on skins, together with Zakk Wylde forming a cool metal band - even if only on screen.

My favorite part is when Zakk leans out the bus window with his shotgun and blasts a road sign that says something like "Wichita 20 Miles" and says "Take THAT WICHITA!" BLAM!!!!

I lived there for many years, and have always felt that way about the place.

So the movie is not without some redeeming values.

When they get to the mansion, and he is looking at the '58 Flying V in the case...I was drooling...

I give the movie 4 stars! During the "movie with commentaries" section! What happens is all of the movie is replayed with commentary included! Not exactly sure to be exact! They get to the part where Marky is auditioning and they say something about DAVE! I think along the lines of he was to DLRish or something! I'll go through the pains and check it out! They also say the guy pretending to be trying out before him was a VH tribute front man in real life! let me see and get back on this! The movie was o.k.! No Decline of the Western Civilization for sure! mostly a girly rock flick with Jennifer hot hot Aniston!

O.K it's like the game "The seven strips of Kevin bacon" or whatever it's called! HOW does DAVE fit into the movie ROCK STAR! Could they have a movie about Rock n' roll and not mention DAVE!?
During the commentary which is full of useless interesting facts like the rival band singers the singer in 3rd EYE BLIND! It gets to the point where Marky is going to audition at what I believe is the house used in ROCKSTAR/INXS! They talk about everything even the house. While walking thru the house Marky and Jennifer are looking at the ROCK MEMORABELIA! A picture goes by that included that poodle headed character named sammy! The narator mentions they have to do PHOTOSHOP on some pictures for instance putting *er* sammy hagar with the Steel dragon guitar player marky is about to meet! Not one minute later they mention DAVID LEE ROTH! There is a singer auditioning as they enter the room! The narator says it's RALPH, the singer for the ATOMIC PUNKS, doing parady on himself singing DAVID LEE ROTH!! they say that of coarse isn't tye voice they are looking for and RALPH leaves shakng his head! I say it doesn't look like the Ralph I met in Orlando years ago! Someone check it out and let us know! The movie comentary is interesting enough to watch!

Yes that's Ralph Saenz, his hair is just darker, maybe his natural color. He walks right past Walberg and looks at him on his way out.

Yeah it's Ralph doing his best DLR impression in the booth. He once told me he was wearing a wig in that scene. His hair may be naturally that color, but it was a wig.

I thought the movie was pretty fucking stupid, but Steel Dragon's music was pretty cool. Helps that they had great players on it.

I assume you'll like the song "Stand Up" a lot less when you hear Sammy wrote it.

Saw it in the theater with my friend's wife...had a good time...a pretty decent movie, nothing overwhelmingly special, and as usual Jennifer Aniston sunk it...

Although if I have to hear "Stand Up and Shout" one more time I'm going to sit up and puke...fucking stupidest "metal" song I've ever heard...good grief...

The whole concept was that it was LOOSELY based on Priest, but they didn't want to have any connection to it (and they were asked - that Steel Dragon tour jacket from the so-called Japan '79 tour was originally supposed to be Rob's outfit, but Priest and Halford nixed it real quicklike for some reason...I thought it would have been good for them, personally, but...).

    On a 1-10, I'd give it a 7.5.

I don't think it's as bad a movie that the critics have made it out to be, I mean it's not like it's a documentary or anything....

I think the best scene of the movie may have been seeing Jennifer Aniston in that thong and see-through dress....

Saw that slab o 'poo in the theater. Guess some of the concepts were based on Ripper Owens joining JP, although unlike Steel Dragons, JP were all washed up commercially by the time Halford left.

Suppose it was amusing in terms of looking backward at the 1980s, but fuck man, you get Zakk, Jason Bonham and the rest together and have them play this generic, nostalgic hair metal poo...and then at the end of the movie Marky Mark is playing some coffee-house wussified dribble, supposedly finally getting 'real' with his music...so the subtext of the movie is what, exactly?

Wahlberg WAS brilliantly cast in Boogie Nights, which WAS a great movie, but Rock Star wasn't that movie. Plus, Aniston has never been able to act worth a damn, which renders the non-musical romance side of the movie as moot.

Worth watching once as a look back down memory lane, but that's about it.

I think the context was that he moved on from his childhood ambitions and did something he wanted to do - his own thing...I guess...

But The Real Ripper Owens is in Iced Earth Right now, He didn't do the Coffee House thing ever. He's still in Metal Band, and a Quite good one at that.

    Great Movie.

Funny how no ones mentioned that Jeff Pilson from Dokken was in the Steel Dragon band too.

Don't forget that Zakk Wylde was in Steel Dragon, sans beard. That and Jason Bonham was the drummer. I'd like to see those 2 in a supergroup.

That's the best part! Him walking around with two beers is no stretch either! Have I share my ZAKK stories?

The thing is, between Pilson, Wylde and Bonham, I'd have thought they'd been able to write a little better material then what they had...all three are pretty good writers, considering...
