Fantastic band.
Did you ever hear... the one... about last yearrrrr!!
Stay Frosty, muthas!
I thought "Lickin" off the Lions album rocked.
Big fan of the band.
I bet he's better now that he's off the drugs...though the same is true of FORD...Originally posted by hain23x

I just always thought CEASE was a better lead player...FORD tends to ramble...................

The mighty Black Crowes played Mojo Hand in St. Louie back in '01 yez yez nah.
Thats the same thing I was thinking.ahahah..."DREAMS"..."TELL THE TRUTH"...i'm guessing those are not the songs we think they are...ahahah
Is the Sin City on there also AC/DC's?
"Dreams" is an old Allman Bros jam
Hey Loons, don't you have a Crowes boot collection?
hell, I asked the Crowes fans over at their message board if that "She" was a Kiss song :0
Sho' 'Nuff...even taped a show way back in '95. "Tell The Truth" is some kinda Clapton sumthin' or nutha I believe...Derek and The Dominoes or Blind Faith...maybe...I could be wrong...wrongdoers respect me...Originally posted by hain23x

Awesome band!
Hats off to the mighty Black Crowes for treatin' their fans like I wish some bands had a notion to nah.
I saw them on tour with Tom Petty. They had about 4 good songs, then they all started sounding the same. Tom Petty blew them off stage. It was a great concert though
The Crowes have been achieving a tour-de-force over the years: they are strongly influenced by Led Zep' (mostly), the Stones, the Faces (but maybe it's not in purpose), and a lot of their music is deeply coloured with full Southern flavour (nothing amazing as they are from the South themselves)...
But they never ever sound outdated, they always sound genuine (which they are)... It surely is their phenomenal faith, inspiration and singularity that enabled them to be so creative on a road that everybody thought was closed: but there must be another ingredient that I just can't identify.
How many albums do they have anyways?
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Six studio albums, plus the awesome Live at the Greek with Jimmy Page and their own 2-record live album of 2002.
I've got all of them, but I mostly play "Southern Harmony & Musical Companion" and "Lions", besides the two live albums.
Damn, I dig "Lions" for the two opening tracks, mostly. Few records start with such kickass tunes as far as I know.
Ack, missed this one- So you can appreciate "Southern" even though it was more acoustical than the debut?Originally posted by Jérôme Frenchise

I liked "Southern" in the beginning, but lost interest after the 3rd album which was electrical again.
I thought they faded after "snakes & a charm."
uh, there's only 1 acoustic song on southern harmony... well actually 2, that cover at the end.
Souther Harmony and Amorica are their best two albums
and get that DVD!! wal mart selling it cheap for about 10$
Really? For some reason I thought the entire "Southern" was so different than "Shake".Originally posted by hain23x

"Amorica"- that was the name of the 3rd album. Still makes me wonder why everyone else says the first album is the best.
I mean everyone's entitled to their opinion, but what makes the 2nd and 3rd albums the best to you?
The writing on Amorica has a depth to it that I can't really explain. Deeper lyrics, a more original sound--a sound that is really theirs.
Southern Harmony just has a lot of really great rockin' tunes--Sting Me, My Morning Song, Remedy some great slow grooves-Thorn in my Pride, Bad Luck Blue Eyes Goodbye.
I've seen them fucking devastate places. With Jimmy Page was particularly incredible.
The new DVD rocks, too, but I could have asked for more from the setlist.
gnaw on it
Don't get me wrong... I love that Van Halen is back in the ring... but damn, sometimes I miss having the Crowes around as a functioning unit.
top band , the southern harmony is a great rock n roll record .
fuck your fucking framing
They were great with Jimmy Page..saw em at Jones beach with Page... Saw em on their first two tours...all small venues....once in ny city, once at c.w. post college on Long Island on their second tour which was also a great show....and 2-3 yrs ago at Westbury Music Fair on Long Island. Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about but their first two albums will always be my favorite....especially the first one.
It's one of my regrets that I never got to see these guys live.
'Shake Your Moneymaker', 'The Southern Harmony....' and 'By Your Side' are damn fine records.....
The Power Of The Riff Compels Me
I saw them in some hole in the wall in Massachusetts on their first tour and they played most of this album live. What a mind numbing surprise thinking they would just be playing songs from the first CD. Marc Ford made an impression on me as a frontman/guitarist of the opening act. I think they were called Burning Tree.
They'll be back. They're on "hiatus" now, but they really hit another great stride in 2009-2010. Saw them just before Thanksgiving of 2010 at the Tabernacle in Atlanta. They played 3.5 hours; one of the best shows I've ever been to. They've become a great southern rock jam band. Their double album from 09 was, IMO, the best thing they've ever done "Before the Frost...Until the Freeze". It's not as hard-rockin' as their more commercial successes, but it's just a great album all the way through. It's a bit folk, a bit blues, a bit country, even (not in a pop-country way, more like Gram Parsons and the Eagles).
I think they just took this break, not because things had turned to shit again, but to avoid things turning to shit. Chris and Rich have both done solo albums and tours, while Luther has gone back to N. Mississippi All-Stars.
You never know in rock n' roll, but I suspect we'll see them again out on the road.
David Lee Roth's the greatest motherfucker who ever lived!
