Saw Lynch do this last night and WOW, I was impressed. I would imagine that is one tough thing to do!

I try like hell to keep things all fluffy bunnies and pink daisies. But brutal truth smacks me in the ass all the time. ~Susie Q 2009
Gothic Octive? Whuddizzit?
Never heard of such.
Well....George Lynch was having his one hand stretch an octave, much like that on a piano when he was playing, and diamond den said it was called a "Gothic Octave". I was impressed by that manuever type thing n' junk
A whole octave on one string is one hell of a stretch. Even if its from the 12th - 24th fret.
But that doesn't mean Diamond Den can go making up musical terminology...
I can't do that....don't have a 24th fret.
Me niehter.
an ocatve can be played two strings over and two frets up from the original note.
Lynch was probably just putting out the old showmanship
Yah....that type of thing. His fingers were wide spread and I was amazed at the sound that was coming out of that guitar. What is it called then Gar? Just a "octave" or some other special thing? It was really cool!Originally posted by GAR

Doing fingertapped harmonics as he's accustomed to doing probably. Seen him live in 1982 from the 30th row.. other than that haven't really seen him play, so I don't know his style.
I tell ya Gar, I was impressed. I am just checking his site, and LOOKIE HERE™ what I found!

Oh, that old thing? lol...
He is pretty cool to see live, when he's not stoned off his ass.
The last time I saw him was in 1988, when he was in a good band..

Lynch is a monster...got one of the most memorable vibratos I've ever heard. The lick demonstrated on that webpage is something I would wager all of us guitarists have stumble upon. To me it is just a standard metal thang.

AH Thank you Ms Q!
Yeah Mr G I was thinking something along that line.. "what riff of his could she be referrin'?"
Just look at the tonal root of each of these 3 positions.. not so much of an "Octave" as much as it spells out a chord, from the root you know...
This may sound stupid and if it does well fuck you too! Just kidding...serious question here. Is it a "Gothic Octave" that the White Stripes use in Seven nation Army? How is he getting that bluesy sound? he's doubling his chords some how....?
"FUCK YOU, YOU FUCKIN' BITCH! WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE ANYWAYS? TALK TO ME LIKE THAT? FUCK YOU. DRAG QUEEN LOOKIN' WHORE- YOU AINT SHIT. YOUR THE FRECKLE TO THE LEFT OF MY BROWN EYE. NOW GO MAKE YOURSELF USEFUL...OH, PUT DAD ON THE PHONE"
