I'll update it Sporadically through this week. Some of The Matchups are Extremely Intresting. Like Cleveland plays in 4 Super Bowls and Pittsburgh and Chicago play each other in 1984. Personally I like the Alt Universe Matchups better myself maily because Cleveland auctually plays in them.

Definitely, their best '70's team was in '76, but both Franco and Rocky got hurt in the playoffs....

No doubt...the best defensive team...perhaps in the history of football...

in a 4 week span...threw 3 shutouts in a row...and gave up 3 points total...

they started off 1-4...then ran off 9 in a row to end the year...and in those last 9 games...gave up...1 touchdown????

they gave up 28 total points their last 9 games...

just an incredible defensive year...

5 shutouts...

and 3 other games without a TD...

that team was flat out fucking ridiculous...

The year was 1976. It was the Greatest Defense Ever.
In stretch of 8 games, the Steelers "Steel Curtain" Defense had 5 shut outs and gave up only 22 points. That's fewer than three points per game. Sixteen of those points came in one game against the Houston Oilers. Besides that Houston game, the Steel Curtain yielded inly three points apiece to Miami and Cincinnati, and shut out the Giants, Chargers, Chiefs, Bucs, and Oilers. At one point, the Steelers has a streak of 22 consecutive quarters - 5 1/2 games - without giving up a touchdown.

The Steelers lost the AFC Championship game to Oakland 24-7

1976: Playing a tough early schedule the Steelers get off to a rough start losing 4 of their first 5 games. However, down the stretch the Steel curtain defense firmly established itself as the greatest defensive unit of all time during an incredible season ending 9-game winning streak in which they allowed opponents 7 or less points 8 times, including 4 shutouts. Highlighting this run, which helped earn LB Jack Lambert Defensive Player of the Year, were 3 shutouts in a row. Making the 3 straight shutouts more impressive were the week prior and the week following they only allowed just 9 total points. In total during the 9 games winning streak the Steel curtain smothered the other teams allowing just 28 points. In total they allowed 138 points on the season compiling a 10-4 record to capture the AFC Central for the 4th time in 5 years. In the playoff the Steelers continued their domination beating the Colts 40-14 in Baltimore. However, both Franco Harris, and Rocky Bleier who surpassed the 1,000-yard mark during the season were injured and unable to play in the AFC Championship Game. Without Harris and Bleier the Steelers offense drifted as their Championship reign ended with a 24-7 loss to the Raiders in Oakland.

What if Jackie Smith had caught that pass in the end zone against the Steelers back in SB '79? Steelers may have pulled it out anyway but who knows. Man I felt sorry for that guy. Bummer ending to a great career.

With his team trailing the Pittsburgh Steelers 21-14 in the third quarter of Super Bowl XIII, Smith dropped a third down pass in the end zone from quarterback Roger Staubach. Because of the drop, the Cowboys had to settle for a field goal to make the score 21-17. The Cowboys ended up losing the game by 4 points, 35-31, and Smith retired before the start of the next season.
