Ravens won't tag Jamal Lewis their Franchise player

    Well...interesting to say the least.

This guy isn't a quality individual...but...he's a big back...North/South guy....who may have his best years ahead of him...

Would be an interesting addition to the Steelers...

    don't want him...

    but would be interesting...

OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) - The Baltimore Ravens have decided not to protect Jamal Lewis from free agency, but have not ruled out the possibility of signing the one-time 2,000-yard rusher to a long-term contract.

Lewis, the NFL Offensive Player of the Year in 2003, when he rushed for 2,066 yards, slumped to a career-low 906 yards this season following a four-month sentence in a Florida federal prison and two months in a halfway house for a cocaine conspiracy plea bargain. He also underwent surgery on his right ankle.
The Ravens would have had to assign a one-year, $6 million franchise tender to retain Lewis. Not doing so means they are likely to look over the veteran running back market while evaluating potential rookie running backs such as USC's LenDale White and Memphis' DeAngelo Williams. The Ravens have the 13th overall pick in the draft.

Chester Taylor, Lewis' backup, is likely to become a free agent.

"We will still consider the possibility of talking to Jamal about a long-term contract with us," said Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome, who drafted Lewis fifth overall out of Tennessee in 2000.

Lewis could join an already crowded running back market that could include NFL MVP Shaun Alexander of Seattle; Indianapolis' Edgerrin James and Carolina's DeShaun Foster.

"I've spoken with Jamal and his agent today to let them know."

Lewis' agent Mitch Frankel had no immediate comment.

Lewis' total in 2003 was the second-highest total in league history. However, his production has declined each year since then while dealing with legal turmoil and injuries. In 2004, Lewis rushed for 1,006 yards. This season, Lewis averaged a career-low 3.4 yards per carry and scored a career-low three touchdowns. He rushed for 100 yards only twice this year.

lmfao ... had already read the Dojo before I even read this post ...

I have seen Robinson's early mock draft and he has both Baltimore and Indy taking backs I believe.

The Combine starts today I believe, and they usually show quite a bit on the NFL Network, but havent seen anything yet.

Jamal can take a hike, he has not been the same since his run in with the law. The Ravens need to resign Taylor. There are some quality backs out on the market that Baltimore could pick up. The Ravens have a tough schedule next season, they need all the help they can get.

Jamal can want to go to the 'Burgh all he wants, that dog ain't huntin'....

Steelers have too many issues with the cap for virtually any free agents signings, it'll be hard enough to sign most of their 11 UFA's...

It's tough for a running back who's been in the league as long as he has to get a fat payday. Especially considering his history of injuries, and not to mention the baggage he's carrying for spending some time in jail.

The market value for these types of guys just isn't what it used to be.

    Just ask Eddie George.

    26 or 27...

not to mention the jail year he missed 6 or 7 games...

and he's missed essentially another season due to injury...

he's got plenty of gas in the tank...

And I think ultimately...someone's going to get him cheap...to a 1 year deal...so he can "prove" himself...

    I'd rather have TO...

ask yourself this DLoc...and it says a bunch...

I'll bet you in the 2 weeks that I had TO...that he nearly matched Jamal's output the entire rest of the year...

I'll get another year out of TO...and then dish him off to some sorry ass...

    Cmon... that's a no brainer...

T.O. is the kind of receiver who can put up eye popping #'s with any quarterback. We all know he's that good. That's what makes him better than Moss. Whoever is in there at QB, you know T.O. is gonna get his. Jake Plummer next year? Fine. 1,500 and 14.

That being said...in a fantasy league where RB's are at a premium....

I'm betting on Jamal getting it done this fall in a big fucking way. He's not gonna fade away.

Of course...if he didn't do it in a contract year...

why would he do it in a contract year?

I don't disagree...but the only thing bigger than our premium RB's in this league...

are 3 or 4 guys that are premium receivers...

I still think TO is a cunt...but would love to deal him...for a premium back...lmfao...
