Summed up by Jackman stopping at Pitt and Jolie and saying 'I don't have a joke for you.'

How fucking difficult is it to come up with a joke about those freaks?

"And Angelina Jolie was in 'The Changeling'.

I imagine that wasn't hard work for her, considering that half the kids she's got aren't hers anyway."

    Not rocket surgery...

Heath Ledger won. No surprise there. Awards shows always like the recently dead. Gotta wonder if anyone in the "academy" would have given a shit otherwise.

    Does anyone even care anymore?

The Oscars come at the tail-end of about 80 billion various award shows, all for the benefit of the entertainment industry to stick their heads between their legs, queef, then remark "gee, my twat-farts smell great!!"

I should think the oversized paychecks these actors get for participating in what these days are mostly formulaic, shite movies would be enough in terms of self-gratification.

Mickey didn't get paid for the movie....and he worked his fucking nuts off for 7 months actually becoming a wrestler.

He shoulda won period. He sweeped every other awards show, why not the Oscars?

Cuz they had to award it to Sean Penn playing a poofter. That's why.

    Welcome to Hollywood.

Every movie Pen has ever been in.. he has played a Drunken/Junkie , Gay , Retarded, Molester Monster, all at the same time...... this latest one he is just more so.

See: Fast Times and everything to the latest...

Usually he augments his movies with -A+- world wide tour of Loud Mother Fukking Mouthed BS, that in his sick head he thinks -us underlings-... need to survive.

I will never forget him in that -Rubber Raft- built for two with a pistol (the cops confiscated) trolling around New Orleans after Katrina... yelling at Bushes Helicopter for justice for the Black Man...lol

Now it's -Justice for the Gays- ...... opertunistic Cont ..of the highest order.

I hadnt seen any of the movies nominated, I only watched to see them "remember" Heath. I thought it was cool that his family accepted the award for him.

I guess he wasn't included in the "In memorial" portion because he died before Feb. 1, 2008.

I assume he was included last year, but I missed it.

I also like seeing all the pretty dresses....good for Penelope for wearing a vintage gown. It was like 60 years old or something. that is very cool, IMO.

Even though Rourke didn't win, this movie has completely turned his career around. That's great news for him. He's gonna be rollin' in dough and get lots of parts in some big time movies. So he already won something much better than a statue for The Wrestler. Just take a peek at the upcoming projects he is working on.

As for the show itself, I always enjoy the "In Memorium" piece near the end. Although I find it a bit tasteless how some of the deceased get a much bigger applause than others. But then, why the fuck are they applauding the dead? That always seems a bit morbid. I know, I know...the applause is for their career work, but it just seems like "this actor died.....WOOT!"

I think some get more applause than others because they're recognized. I don't know how that display looked in the theater, but they got the camera angles all wrong this time. I couldn't even see the names of most of those dead people, so if I was going to applaud any of them, it would only be the ones whose faces I recognized. Which probably would have been Paul Newman, Roy Scheider, Charlton Heston, and maybe one or two others.

Nah, the oversized paycheck should be given to the people who slave over a oversized set, the lights, the props, etc...

They do the real work anyway.
Why settle for something you have, if it's not as good as something you're out to get?

No, I wasn't saying I was a fan, I was saying he was one of the few stiffs I would have recognized, out of all those random images of dead people flashing on the screen.

Though they should have run the clip where he said they could pry his gun from his cold dead hands (you goddamn filthy apes!!)

I haven't seen either movie yet, so I can't say he was robbed.

BOF, have you seen both movies, or are you basing this on the fact that Penn was playing a gay man? I'm anxious to see both movies now, and THEN I'll state my honest opinion.

The director told Rourke that he couldn't pay him, but that he guaranteed him an oscar nomination. That nomination is worth FAR MORE than what he would have been paid had this not been a low-budget film.

I'll just have to see whose performance I find more believable before I can make an opinion.

Sean Penn is one hell of an actor, and from the sounds of it the director pulled one hell of a performance out of Rourke... sounds like possibly one that could have gone either way.

Never could stand them actually. Either give me a decent Spanish omelette or forget the eggs altogether.

It was all about the symbolism though. The egg as a symbol of the soul, and the Devil "eating" a soul.

    Yup.

Rumblefish is a great movie too.

In recent years, Rourke also put on an awesome performance in Sin City

Did you see "Tropic Thunder?" I think he sort of got one from Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr... Maybe a little Heath Ledger as well...

I paid absolutely no attention to the Oscars this year, but if Frank Langella didn't win best actor for his fucking brilliant portrayal of Nixon in Frost Nixon, the entire academy should be forced to review German Shit Porn films for the rest of their lives...

I haven't watched the Oscars in years and only tuned in to see Heath get the best supporting actor award.

It was great to see his family accept on his behalf but even better that they all appeared happy, all smiles, to actually celebrate Heath's achievement rather than sobbing and crying over his premature death. Beacause all those Hollywood cocksucker actors in the audience had tears in their eyes just for a nice camera opp for the press. Many of them didn't even know Heath, yet, here they were crying.

The only person who was actually showed real emotion from Heath's win was director Christopher Nolan.
