Why are we so limited with avatar size?

I have a couple of new ones I'd like to use but they are too big. They are GIF's.

Just crop them, use photoshop editor; you won't lose any picture quality that way.

I tried that. I normally use Irfanview but it won't let me resize GIF's for some reason?

Any ideas?

Do you have Imageready? It came with my photoshop and you can edit GIFs in that. from picture size to time between the frames.

i think that's when yousave it in photoshop you can choose a number on that slider thing for how big of a file you want it.

if you want an animated avatar you have to save it as a gif

the way to reduce gif file size is either reduce the physical dimensions OR reduce the number of colours in it

the largest number of colours a gif file can contain is 256, this is also known as 8 bit

so either reduce the "bit" number when saving or specify the number of colours you want the file to contain

the "slider" thing someone talked about is usually seen when saving a file as a jpg/jpeg, the slider changes the compression ratio, i.e. how changes the file size saved on disk
