    guitar mags

i did a search, nothing came up.

how many of you have a guitar mag library?
i do, and it's a constantly useful reference.

i have guitar world from about '88 to present.
some years ago i was sick on a long weekend
and made a database of all songs they'd tabbed.
kept it updated, now there's over 1500 songs on it.

some double ups, but it's still cool.

i've got guitar player from about the same,
but i've stopped buying it because they've
    dropped the ball imho.
guitar player of the early to late '90's was awesome.

guitar for the practicing musician.... every issue from (again)
the late '80's, until they became extinct

    guitar school, guitar shop,
boxes full of the pommy ones. (which are funny if you read them in nigel tufnell's voice)

all the gp specials on vh, srv, jimi, etc.

    anybody else this obsessed? hehe

I was an avid reader of Guitar magazines in the 80's but lost intrest in the 90's and really haven't bought or subscribed to any for a long time. I just like to read stuff on websites. I enjoy reading what other players have to post. I like the forum over at plexipalace.com. I probably learned more on the internet than from any guitar magazine.

Old magazines are cool. I have some old Playboys I won't part with. Reading Playboy from the 60's is always a kick.

First guitar mag i ever bought had an Eddie Van Halen cover. That's the main reason I got into VH and then David Lee Roth subsequently. The interview with him talked about how he came up with Spanish Fly and Eruption so I had to check them out and I've been hooked since.

Interestingly, one of the magazines from the early 90s I bought has an article entitled "who will be the most influential guitarist of the 90s?" Their shortlist included (from memory here) Nuno Bettencourt, George Lynch, Satriani and Vai. IMO though I think influential guitarism (new word!) stopped with Eddie. Who since has done anything close that could be regarded as "influential"

That's why I stopped buying guitar mags as well. Too many new guitars and useless gizmos. All you need is your own axe, a half decent amplifier and a couple of effects.

    Bits and pieces...

some Guitar Player mags (circa 21st century)
some Guitar One mags (circa mid-90's)
a stack of Guitar World mags, from your wrist to your elbow. (late 90's to today)
Why settle for something you have, if it's not as good as something you're out to get?

Here is a thread with some music mag covers I started a while back.

I lost interest due to lack of response lol.

The Circus Simmons cover is one of my all time favs.

Not trying to hijack the thread, just have a look if you want.

    Cheers.

GFTPM was FAR superior...less ads & Reviews and more substance.....
i don't think guitarone ever made it over here

gftpm was blaaaady great, i remember reeves gabrels had a column where he talked about using a vibrator over the pickups to get odd noises

i must admit it's never something i've really wanted to buy so i used my electric razor instead

Guitar One is basically turning into a cheap Guitar World rip off. I prefer Guitar World over any other publication, other than Guitar Player, because it has a lot more substance than Guitar One
