How does everyone rate this guy?
I think we'd all agree that Ozzy's material for the past 15 years has been weak, but Zakk is one hell of a player, you know who it is in one bar right?
Opinions please.

Me personally, he's never had the "wow" factor of Rhoades, but hell not many do!
The Power Of The Riff Compels Me
Zakk's always impressed me live and with some of his solo stuff, but not with BLS so much. Pride and Glory and Book of Shadows are his 2 best, in my opinion. His solo on the Ozzy DVD Live At Budokan is great. He also gives his fans what they want and that's lots of music. You'd be hard pressed to find a more prolific guitarist over the past 10 years.
M
That's true he is prolific.
I'm with you on Pride and Glory and Bool...
however I also think the first BLS album "Sonic Brew" is amazing, the other records haven't been able to match it.
I like Sonic Brew and Blessed Hellride but overall I think the BLS sound has had its day. Too much of the same thing has started to diminish Zakk's overall status as a guitar god (or minor deity).

i think you are right, I mean6 of the same album, maybe a little too prolific!Originally posted by m_dixon1984

However, he has one due which has been produced by Michael Beinhorn, and is on Roadrunner,
Maybe a producer that will push him and edit the songs will help bring out real classic?
he is certainly a guitar God, up there with Dime for this generation
Kinda bored with his whole pinched harmonic on the low E string and then bend-the-fuck-out-of-it thing...
But I'll admit I was pretty impressed with him when I first heard him...believe the first time was when listening to Miracle Man - some nice, clean, speedy, melodic picking going on there.
His whole thing of wearing camouflage or Army jackets and green Army pants, and the green and black military face paint - seems like every time I see him on the cover of or inside Guitar World he's trying to make himself out as some kinda bad-ass, gritting and bearing his teeth and raising a clenched fist at the camera - does this guy have some separation issues with his childhood G.I.Joe doll, or what?
Kinda laughable, although I'm sure he'd give me a beating if I told him this face-to-face.
He's talented enough, I suppose. Out of what's left out there, he is probably one of the higher profile living guitar players I enjoy, who still digs serving up slamming hard rock, and isn't jacking off via his instrument a la Vai.
Hasn't really done anything THAT groundbreaking to distinguish himself from the pack, IMO, but he's a good player.
Scramby eggs and bacon.
Great player, no doubt, but not one of my favourites.
Like Terry I can`t stand all of the pinched harmonics and I`m not too keen on his guitar sound at all.
Never wrote a song that was any good, except perhaps "No more tears".
Of all the guitarists who have recorded with Ozzy (studio and live), Zakk is my least favourite.
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Sitting on a park bench!
I agree totally except that he didn't write No More Tears, or at least the bits that made it good. I don't have the album handy to check the credits actually I don't have any post Jake E Lee stuff on CD.
The reason you can tell it's him is he keeps doing the same stuff again and again. I've never heard anything from BLS that was better than boring derivative stuff. Probably works well enough live if you've drank enough.
There were a few good riffs on No Rest For the Wicked but it was quite a weak album and it's gone downhill from there really.
It's not that he isn't a good guitarist just that the people he followed were so good it made him seem ordinary.

I think its time for Ozzy to find the next "Randy" guitarist !!
Hopefully one that has a secret fetish for fisting.
That way we will get a great new guitarist and material,
plus you know that Sharon wont be able to resist
a sneaky fling behind the scenes with him.
Then WHAMMO !!
What we have all wanted for years
Win Win all around I reckon....
BABY PANA 2 IS Coming !! All across the land, let the love and beer flow !
Love ya Mary Frances!
There's not enough fisting on TV.
Actually I wish Ozzy would just retire.
I liked the old days when you laughed with him rather than at him.
Yeah, I think Ozzy has pretty much done it all now.
I havent liked any of albums since "No More Tears".
I hate Sharon Osbourne (She should be anally fisted on MTV !)
I think the only thing left for Ozzy now is to hook up with
Iommi and give us that final Sabbath album..
After that, let the poor bastard sit back in his mansion
and take as much vicodin and wine as he so desires !!

I wonder if he realizes this, but probably not...
Sharon keeps him too medicated to know what's going on.
Zakk did a really awesome job on "No Rest for the Wicked". I could fucking care less about him beyond that. He's completely overrated, so-so guitarist and hasn't done ANYTHING with ANYBODY that has ever came near to touching that album.
Twistin' by the pool.
Honestly, I'd rather not...gotta respectfully disagree with you here, Mark...Originally posted by Panamark

Ozzy just can't sing anymore...his dependancy on Protools in order to digitize his voice is just too much for me to bear...a new Sabbath disc just wouldn't measure up to the old stuff for me because of that, so I'd rather not see it happen at all.
I think Tony's still putting out OK material, and Geezer's stuff absolutely kicks ass all over the place...I'm cool with that...
As far as Ozzy's concerned...he's done...
I absolutely concur.. He should have let things lie a while ago. I liked Ozzy much better before Sharon got her Talons in him and has used him as her Media Puppet.Originally posted by bueno bob

Yep and those two new songs on the sabbath live album were awful...
Very, very rushed. Sony demanded that they get them onto the album and Tony and Geezer simply didn't have time to do anything better...Originally posted by binnie

I don't think Bill even played on them, if memory serves...
Makes a good case for why I always count Forbidden as a vastly underrated album...
Forbidden was underrated, that's true.
Meh.
I'm not so hot to hear any new Sabbath album with Ozzy, to be honest. I'm content with what's already been put out there.
I'd sooner want to see RJD get back with Tony and Geezer than Ozzy, far as studio stuff goes.
I like Zakk but out of that "style" of playin' I gotta go with my old boy Mr. Lynch...
Into tha fiya!!!
EAT US AND SMILE!!!!
Perhaps you are all correct.
But heres another angle to think about, (lets not even
mention Van Halen)
The real creators of Heavy Metal to me, were Led Zep, Black Sabbath
and Judas Priest. All of them started in the late 60's and helped
to define what metal was in the 70's.
Priest are touring and have reformed, they are still offering
*something* to us. Led Zep are over (RIP Bonzo)
So I guess theres a small part of me that would love to see
the original Sabbath release an epic album.. Its almost like they
are the last of that era to have all original members alive.
Could they ??? Sounds like you all think they couldnt.
Perhaps you are right. But it would be fucking great if
they did..
I think some of you missed my point too, Im totally over
Ozzy (apart from the classic stuff) He hasnt done jack shit since
"No More Tears" and even that was starting to show the strain...
For me, the only thing that Ozzy could possibly have to offer
now would be the Sabbath reunion album.. With Sharon locked
away for a year while they make it...
I agree with all your points. But I would still buy this, if it ever
happens...
Admitedly, I'd still buy the album if they made one

Fast & Bulbous, Got Me?
I used to like Zakk, but after he joined Sharon for that Maiden-Bashing, I went right off him.
Good enough guitarist, though. Not brilliant, but good.
It seems that most of us agree he doesn't have the X factor of an all time great.....
He doesn't, but I do.
He is still a hot fucking guitarist....and unlike many who are technically great, he has a unique style, enough so that I can instantly tell him apart from other soloists...
lemmy had a big hand in 'no more tears'.....
and zakk's solo in that song is fucking insane.
remember those early guitar mag ads when he was a hair metal pretty boy?
hehehehe
now he's like.... so totally different..
Zakk playing IMO:
No Rest For The Wicked - gREAT Impressive what OZZY really needed at the time, Was easy to see that ZAkk respected Randy.
No More Tears - Overrated.
Live & Loud - It's perhaps Zakk best playing, aggressive he even recognized that the beggining of Shot in the dark was sampled because he didn't wanna break more strings or something like that.
Ozzmosis - 1rst that it was Vai, didn't worked and Zakk again, I can't stand the production & mix.
Down To Earth - underrated.
Live at Budokan(DVD) - it's entertaining, Zakk puts on a good show here, but nothing impressive anymore...
I never cared for his solo records.
Plant en los 70's, Bruce en los 80's, Anselmo en los 90's...
David Lee Roth PARA SIEMPRE.
He didn't used to look so tough. Anyways, I always thought after Randy, Jake E. Lee was the last great guitarist Ozzy had. Zakk is definitely heavy duty, but so are a lot of guys.Originally posted by Terry

“Great losses often bring only a numb shock. To truly plunge a victim into misery, you must overwhelm him with many small sufferings.”
Ahhh the '80's!
The playing on "No rest..." is exceptional, it's just that by that point in the '80's it was hard to be original, we'd heard it all before.
I like ZAKKs earlier stuff best! Sat and watched Song remains the same with the man and his band!

true, zakk does the same thing over and over again but at the end of the day that's what most big name guitarists do
take eddie... start solo, do some tapping, then some whammy stuff, maybe a bit more tapping or a bluesy lick then end with trem picking
how many times was that commited to tape?
GERTCHA!
You just said what I'm telling the guys at Randy Rhoads.tk. They give polls on Ozzy's next guitarist when Zakk goes on tour this summer with BLS. I think Mr. Scary will bring some variety to the stageOriginally posted by MAX

I have no doubt Tony and Geezer could come up with some good stuff; every Sabbath album - EVERY one (even the post-Dio era ones) have flashes of brilliance at the very least, and most of the albums prior to Seventh Star were out and out excellent.
Bill Ward seems to be a bit more settled now.
My only problem with it is that for Ozzy to participate, it'll be Sharon running the show, because he essentially does what she tells him to, and without Ozzy there's no reunion. And Sharon's input would undoubtedly be to the detriment of the end results.
Agreed, if they cant lock that bitch away, then its probably not a greatOriginally posted by Terry

idea...
If we need proof we dont have to look far, those butchered remixes
of Diary and Blizzard are a fucking joke. I remember Elvis sending
me a few of the tracks from those, the drums and bass sound totally
fucking wrong... If I had bought those albums without knowing
kerslake/Daisley were removed, I would have demanded my money
back..
Crikies, she is a total bitch..
I like Zakk with Ozzy, but BLS is pretty fucking ordinary.........
