The Complete 1981 Oakland Show

Those 3 clips of the show were doctored ,i mean,im convinced about that !
Im sure they filmed the show or the shows and then they retouched
the audio (re-recorded on the studio) and they put this 3 clips they "released"
Im sure the full show its somewhere but on raw form only,not doctored as they may have wanted to release it,and now its too late to "doctor" it and they are lazy and they dont give a fuck about releasing it in raw form NO WAY they will release it in raw and the raw will not coincide with the 3 clips that were "released".
Compare the 5 clips "released" for TV for the US FEST and the REAL THING RAW FORM video...
I dont know why they retouched it !
The raw video was pure magical vibe !

I guess we'll never know for sure, unless the goddamned video is released.

every one thought it was real live,but those albums were a mixmatch of several shows plus soundchecks and studio overdubs here and there

from there - the first vid - at 1:49, watch what Ed's playing - he's tapping harmonics, but listen to whats playing instead -a whammy squeal...

um um. yes yes. actually, some parts of picture and audio are out of sync. but that's because those pictures are being replaced with the other parts, I guess. they were taken from the other reel. the audio track was just EQed/mixed/ by Ted Templeman in the studio. Van Halen didn't re-recorded. my english is ok?

Oakland 81 was filmed over three nights, and I think the audio on the videos was basically live and taken from one night/show, as is, but the footage used to make the promo vids was probably taken from all three nights - an obvious example of this is in the Unchained vid, where Ed is playing a black and white guitar for most of the tune, but when they come into the first chrous after the solo, Ed is playing his 'Frankenstein' guitar for a few seconds, then there's a quick shot of an audience member, then Ed is playing the black and white one again.

I'm guessing this because there are a few rough spots on the vocals that wouldn't have been left in there if they were gonna re-record the tracks in the studio after the fact - listening to the audio, it doesn't strike me that much was done in the way of patching any of it up, as opposed to, say, KISS ALIVE 2, for example.


I'd also take a full-length Oakland show any way I could get it. Even if it was just the video. I have an Oakland boot I could synch up to the footage, if need be.

I ain't gonna hold my breath waiting for the Van Halens to put any CVH stuff out, though.

well, if anyone is going to release Oakland 81, it will be Alex Van Halen, as Dave reported, Alex was looking at remamstering the 3rd show of the 3. Dave claimed the first 2 shows went in the shitter aqnd the only thing left was the last show. Most of us have the Oakland 8q1 bootleg but only the 3 videos from those shows

Really? What gave it away? The fact that in 'So This Is Love', the neck of Dave's shirt is ripped down to his stomach for 3/4 of the video, then in the other 1/4 it's only ripped down a few inches?

KISS Alive 3 being more or less fake than the other two matters not: for me it is a suckfest, so how much post-concert studio time was put into it is besdide the point.

Far as the Oakland 1981 clips being "doctored", it's always been obvious that the video was spliced - it's not a seamless filmed shot of the tunes that would naturally synch up with the audio, but the audio seems to be as-is, to me. Have heard plenty of other boots from that tour, and the audio from those three clips is consistent with what I heard from other dates on that tour.

The audio was possibly "mixed" for the three videos, but there was no overdubbing. That's pretty obvious to any fan that has heard more than two live albums or bootlegs.

And yes, Alive III is as 'bout as useful as a pygmy basketball player. But it was no more "fake" than Alive I or II, and I do think that rumors of those albums being rerecorded in studio are highly exaggerated.
