Heaven and Hell or Mob Rules?

Which of these two Sabbath ditties do you prefer?

Now, I always thought MR was superior. To me Ronnie and Sabbath clicked here, on H&H I thought Ronnie at times wrote lyrics that didn't really feel like Sabbath, and Iommi's guitar wasn't quite as thunderous as usual.

But MR still sounds fuckn butally heavy today!

Almost stands up there with the first six Ozzy Sabbs era for me.

    Thoughts?

    Dehumanizer.

It just seemed LOUDER than the other two Dio albums for some reason. Probably the improvements in technology over the decade between them.

This is one tough call, Binnie.....

I always have had a soft spot for Mob Rules, since it got so much airplay in Montreal when I was growing up. Heaven and Hell didn't. But H&H had just killer tunes.....

    Shit...

I'm going to say Mob Rules simply because it rocks fucking hard and Mob Rules is possibly the most over the top Sab tune ever! Great album cover too!

Love both songs, but they have very different moods. I'm gonna say Heaven and Hell.

all 3 of them.h&h,mr and dehumanizer were all great stuff.fucking bloody heavy.
as far as sonically, dehumanizer.the energy level far exceeds the firs 2 on that one. they should have put out a live record from the dehumanizer tour in 1992 instead of that warped sounding piece of shit we got in 1982.i am not saying live evil sucked, i am just saying it sounded like shit as a result of all the sound "tinkering" that went on.

I always had a soft spot for Live Evil, but I would have prefered a live record with Ozzy from the mid 70's....

    Tough choice.

I`m going for "Heaven and hell" but only on consistancy.

    There`s no "E5150" on there.

I think Heaven and Hell is as good as anything they did with Ozzy, so I'm going with that.

They were ok. Saw the MR tour with him, but Dio never really did that much for me as a frontman. I went to see Sabbath the band play the music.

I had both albums, but Heaven and Hell is the only one I bought the cd of.

I saw them once on H&H (November of 1980) and once on MR (sometime in late 1981).

    Yes they kicked ass.

The H & H show, they had tall black curtains hanging from the lighting rig all the way to the stage. Just before they came on, they filled the stage up with smoke, and the curtains kept it from going anywhere.

So then they turned out the house lights, and a recording of thunder came blasting out of the PA, with bright white flashes of light coming from inside the curtains, so it looked like a fucking thunderstorm was brewing on the stage!!!!

One of THE VERY BEST intros I have ever witnessed for an arena band.

So then the curtains parted, and there was the band, blasting out Neon Knights.....christamighty they fucking RULED!!!!

I snuck a tape recorder in and recorded the show.....the only thing was they were so loud that after the show was over, the pathetic little tape recorder played back this horrifying distorted shriek with a shrilly thud and the occasional loud grunt that could be translated as RJD's vocals at 120 Db.

I had brought in a seperate mic and had plugged it into the tape recorder, but the sheer volume destroyed any hope of a decent recording.

On that note, I had sat in virtually the same spot a year and a half earlier with the same recording setup and successfully recorded Boston on their Don't Look Back tour. The recording turned out marvy, and last year I digitally remastered it and transferred it to CD.

I really wanted to see them on the Dehumanizer tour, but had to be satisfied with getting some audio bootlegs.

In bootleg world, there is an audio recording of an FM broadcast of their show in Boston at the Orpheum theater.

If you can track that down, the sound quality is pretty fucking good.

I have it on cassette (I got it only about 6 months after the show), and it sounds great even though it is 2 or 3 generations from the master.

I am sure whoever has the master has transferred it to CD by now.

As a matter of fact, here is a torrent of it:

Cheers for the live memories guys!

Hardrock you have some crazy gig stories!!

I am surprised that Heaven & Hell is walking this, I never really felt that Dio's lyrics worked on that one, just my opinion.

Whereas Mob Rules sounds like a Sabbath monster to me....

Sabbath to me (including Ozzy and DIO) were always about
imagery and illusion that made you think a little bit differently
about life. Led Zep also had this effect on me..

Mob Rules is fucking killer !! But Heaven Hell seems to be
saying something.. I still havent figured out exactly what
it is saying, but I have those"hmmm" thoughts every time
I hear that song. Mob Rules, is a straight ahead rock your
socks off, dont worry about shit song..

But what was Sabbath and DIO really saying in H&H ??

Why is the dancer so important ????

I guess for me, thats why I give H&H my vote. One
of those "Stairway to Heaven" and "Mr Crowley" type
    deals.....

    I love that stuff..

Even though MR was a heavy muffukking album, Heaven & Hell was such an incredibly well-produced album, and the songs were so well written, AND on top of that, it was the first official Black Sabbath album after Ozzy left (after Never Say Die the album, and the tour where they were destroyed onstage every night by their opening act VAN FUCKING HALEN), the album blew EVERYONE'S mind. I mean, first album and all, nobody knew what to expect....that is why it was such a shock to hear it for the first time!

It got massive amounts of airplay on all the FM rock stations in America....I used to hear H & H and Neon Knights a LOT.

This is why it is still to this day regarded as a classic metal album. It certainly qualifies, as 26 years on down the road, the album STILL kicks fucking ass!!

There will be a couple of brand new tracks written by Dio and Iommi on the upcoming box set release of "Black Sabbath - The Dio Years.

I will certainly buy this motherfucker when it comes out.

WE WILL GET ALL THREE FUCKING ALBUMS REMASTERED WIF DA LATEST MUFFUKKING TEK-NOL-O-GEE BABY!!!!

    I can't wait!!!

Oh and Binnie....I have posted several times about the H & H concert....about the opening new wave band The Clocks.

this is a tough one... I picked H&H. It's too close to call but the only reason whay I didn't pick Mob Rules is because was becasue there is one song I kind of don't like... E5150. It's lame.

I have Die Young playing on my Motorola SVL!
