    Megadeth vs Metallica

I say megadeth. better riffs, better vocals... insane solos. Also, TSHF kills St Anger.

Rust in Peace vs MoP.... lol no contest there.

I like them both.... but i could destroy all my metallica cds and not even care.

    Megadeth > Metallica

    hmm... Easy. Megadeth.

I love both of these bands, and have done for about 15 years.

Megadeth easily wins musicianship - no doubt they have always technically been better than Metallica.

However, my vote goes to Metallica.

Firstly, whilst Megadeth are a solid live band, Metallica are in a different league.

Secondly, Metallica have done more to promote heavy metal worldwide.

It's difficult regarding quality of material, because both have written such classics. But for me MOP and Ride the Lightning will always stand up against anybody elses metal albums.

Mustaine and Hetfield are both the best rhythm players metal has ever produced, there are enough riffs there to keep everyones necks sore!

But for me the clincher is this - if Ulrich and Hetfield asked Mustaine to join Metallica tommorrow, he would do it without thinking: he knows who the beeter band is.

Some kind of Monster showed that he's spent 20 years been bitter about not being part of it.

Now I ain't criticsing Megadeth - I love that band, and they have helped get me through some tough time and given me some great memories. Can't wait for the new record.

But for me it will always be Birth School Metallica Death.

Megadeth. Listen to Good Mourning Black Friday & My Last Words, then find anything from Metallica that compares. Their best songs are from Ride The Lightning, and that's just because Mustaine wrote the most memorable riffs in those songs. Hetfield is a better lyricist, but you have to have the music to make it work.

The main reason he wouldn't do this is he couldn't fire them after 1 or 2 albums....like every other drummer or guitarist he's had.

I just don't see it. Now if Ellefson and Mustaine joined Hetfield & Ulrich, we might have something. I'd love to hear a full length studio album with those 4. But to be honest, I've never liked Ulrich, Newsted, and only somewhat like Kirk. And Megadeth was always the 2 Dave's. (until now).

But Megadeth has always been my 2nd favorite band. Favorite overall in heavy metal.

I agree with Peace Sells at #1. Black Friday & My Last Words are my 2 favorite songs from them. I might put So Far, So Good, So What at 2nd. I really like that album.

When comparing to Metallica, I always told my buddies to use best album vs best album. Master of Puppets vs Peace Sells. Rather than 3rd album vs 3rd album etc...

[/ ScQUOTE] YEAH. The league of fuckin' useless shit.

Garth Brooks did loads to promote cuntry to an even bigger audience worldwide. I don't like Garth Brooks.
Fat Boy Slim did the same for 'Dance music' He's a sack of crap, AND he was in the house martins. 'shudder'

Shell have promoted the use of petroleum,
Hagar the use of shit hair, tequila, fatness
Eddie the eagle, the non-use of the human brain...

Megadeth 'coz the parties are better, the fans are better but most importantly when talking about bands..

    THE MUSIC IS BETTER

Well, I've seen Megadeth 4 times, and Metallica 3.

Now Megadeth is a great live band, truly brilliant.

But Metallica, whilst there out put these days is questionable, are a better live band.

Maybe is Mustaine had kept a solid line up, who knows....

On a separate note, has anybody heard anything about the new Megadeth record?

I know they have been recording it in England, but the news on their website doesn't really give any indication of where its going or what it's gonna sound like.

I've got high expectations now that Mustaine has decided to keep the band going and not begin a solo career.

TSHF certainly had some strong moments - but overall I'd like to here less soloing and more riffage, IMO there was too much widdling on that record.

But it was killer nonetheless - Kick the Chair is just out of this world....

Unless Ellefson comes back, it IS basically a Mustaine solo album.

Megadeth... hands down. Don't get me wrong, I like Metallica, but not as much as Megadeth. Just like someone else said, Megadeth is my 2nd favorite band period, and my favorite Heavy Metal band. Rust in Peace is top to bottom amazing. So is Master, but look at the two bands now... St. Anger versus The System has Failed. TSHF easily kicks St. Anger's ass. Somone said there was too much soloing, I didn't think so, but atleast they had more than one unlike St. Anger.

The Some kind of Monster video is messed up. Dave said they only put the parts of him in it that made him look like a pussy and that he would rejoin Metallica at the drop of a hat. So, I agree that video doesn't make him look to cool, but if I was Lars, that's the way I'd want it.

As for what Metallica has done for Heavy Metal.... I'm sorry, but when my sister (country, pop, 80's hair ballad fan) asks to borrow the Black Album, it's not cool. In fact, I really dislike And Justice for All. Lars sounds like he's beating oil drums. They might have propelled Metal into the pop realm, but they are doing anything to revive it right now.

I could on, but I'm not really that interested in dissecting this once again. Just for my money's worth, I'd see Megadeth show before a Metallica show.

Mustaine's voice is "questionably horrible" live.... especially on Train of Consequences on the Rude Awakening DVD. Still.... my favorite album is Rust In Peace, then Peace Sells.

Topic change: Rejoicing in how awesome Mustaine and his droogies are.

Oh... Dave Mustaine vs Billy Idol's snarl.

Billy's is too made up. Dave Mustaine's gives me an "I want to kill you" vibe.

    Funny Flashback:

Back when I wasn't a metalhead, I remember making fun of metal with another non-metalhead. Anyway, he was making fun of metal bands' names.... He said "Bands are named dumbass names.... like MEGADETH!". I didn't even know megadeth was real! I NEVER saw myself digging their shit. Now I love metal! Dave Mustaine and David Lee Roth came to me in my sleep. If it was possible for david lee roth and mustaine to have a kid in a non-gay manner, I wish I was it.

    Speak of the devil!:

Megadeth Heading Back To The Old School With United Abominations

    07.17.2006 6:00 AM EDT

After a tough few years, 'I wanted to go back to the way the stuff was done in the beginning,' says frontman Dave Mustaine.

When Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine named his band's 2004 album The System Has Failed, he seemed to be commenting on the state of U.S. politics. But in retrospect, the title was dead-on for an entirely different reason: The system Mustaine depended on for his livelihood was falling apart.

There were problems with the band's lineup, an ugly lawsuit had developed with ex-bassist David Ellefson, and the label that released the album suffered a staff shakeup that resulted in what Mustaine called "a complete lack of support for the project." In February 2005, Mustaine announced plans to disband Megadeth and go solo. As the year progressed, however, he re-evaluated his decision, and on October 9 at a concert in Buenos Aires, Argentina, he declared that Megadeth would continue.

"My decision was a combination of a few things," Mustaine said as he prepared to enter the studio to record vocals for the band's upcoming album, United Abominations, which is scheduled for a Halloween release. "I was finally associating with guys that really love to play — [ex-Eidolon guitarist Glen Drover and drummer Shawn Drover] — and that make me feel really good to play. They respect me and are fans of the music that we play and of the music in our genre. Also, ticket sales were up and record sales were up — it was happening again."

Inspired by his decision, Mustaine wrote a batch of new songs, signed a new deal with Roadrunner Records and hired bassist James LoMenzo (ex-Black Label Society and, um, White Lion) to replace James Macdonough. Then the band flew to England to record drums for the album.

"We rented [Led Zeppelin drummer] John Bonham's drum kit and recorded at a studio in [Pink Floyd guitarist] David Gilmour's house, which was great." Mustaine said.

"The kit is the only one that's available in the world to rent," Drover added. "Dave surprised me with that, which was pretty incredible because I didn't even know it was possible to get Bonham's kit to rent for anybody. So I incorporated the bass drum and his floor tom and a snare on the kit that I use in the studio, and that was really inspiring. We played in the middle of nowhere and it was just a really cool vibe."

After the drums were finished, Megadeth returned to California to record the guitars and bass. Even before the vocals were added, it was clear that United Abominations was going to please fans of Megadeth's vintage material. "If I was to say what time this record would have came out, I would have said some time before [1990's] Rust in Peace or sometime after [1992's] Countdown to Extinction, Mustaine said. "The critics called The System a return to form (see "Dave Mustaine, Megadeth Return To Life With New System"), but this is even more so. The record company that I'm with now gets it and I'm with management who gets it. So I don't have to write songs because the wives of certain bandmembers are griping or their mortgage is not getting paid or management is telling me that I've got to get a record done to do the tour and I've got to do the tour because if not, I'm not going to be able to pay my bills."

Such skewed reasoning, insisted Mustaine, was largely responsible for Megadeth's transformation from a stellar thrash outfit to a more commercial entity. It all started after the landmark album Rust in Peace, when Megadeth recorded the slightly more commercial Countdown to Extinction, which reached #2 on the Billboard albums chart.

"After that, the pressure came from all sorts of different angles and I was learning as I was going along," Mustaine said. "Also, we had pretty much a revolving lineup within the band and with representation from management and with numerous administrations at the record companies. While we were signed to Capitol, there were six different presidents there. So, we've never really had any long-term equilibrium."

United Abominations will mark the 'Deth recording debut of the Drover brothers. The album will contain 11 songs, including the title track, "Washington's Next" and "Gears of War"; an additional track will be included with the Japanese release. "It's a really diverse record," Shawn said. "There's some faster stuff that should appeal to the band's thrash fans and it's got a little more mainstream stuff as well. It's definitely not one-dimensional."

The record is being co-produced by Mustaine and Jeff Balding, who has worked on three other Megadeth discs. But while Balding has an arsenal of contemporary gizmos at his disposal, the album is being created with the kinds of equipment and techniques the band used in the late '80s — before the advent of ProTools and digital editing.

"I wanted to go back to the way the stuff was done in the beginning," said Mustaine. "I think Megadeth boils down to its bare minimum. When you break it down, Megadeth is guitar, bass, drums and guitar solos. And when it starts going in directions where there's a little bit too much stuff going on that can't be done onstage, it loses heaviness because that stuff probably shouldn't be there anyway."

As he heads into the final weeks of production, Mustaine is happy with his new songs, ecstatic about his current bandmates and looking forward to announcing the lineup for the second Gigantour, the technical-metal festival he launched and headlined last year. Once again, the system is fully operational.

Also, the new vic rattlehead is AWESOME!

both bands went downhill after they peaked, in my opinion....but Megadeth's albums after RiP were never as bad as Metallica's 90's albums....

in terms of vocalist and band members, I prefer Hetfield's voice to Mustaine's voice.....as sounding like a squirrel should be kept to a mininmum....

Marty Friedman is a MUCH better guitarist than Kirk Hammett....but Hammett was good on Metallica's early albums....Friedman is just much better technically and musically (and he doesn't overuse the wah wah pedal).....

Metallica once had a better bassist (I think), Cliff Burton....they might still do, I don't know much about Robert Trujillo.....I don't know who Megadeth's bassist is....

and I'm sure Megadeth's drummer is better than Lars Ulrich....

I think Megadeth wins on the basis that their albums in the 90's were much better than Metallica's albums in the 90's....but Metallica has a better vocalist.....

about vocalists: they both pretty much suck. If mustaine would have hired a vocalist, Megadeth would have been metallica in terms of popularity. Keep in mind, a lot of their fans are people who think they're hardcore by listening to metallica... it's a fad to like them. megadeth never gets mentioned in that bullshit, so they also have a quality fan base.

Yes, Hetfield does suck on vocals too, but I still prefer his vocals too Mustaine's vocals.....it doesn't mean I like Hetfield vocals, I just think it's better....

mind you, Hetfield's vocals does suit the music.....it is thrash metal, which isn't really renowned for its vocalists.....

I'm actually glad he got the boot from Metallica. Look at all the great music we got. Who knows what they would have sounded like together over the years. Metallica had more commercial success, but Megadeth stayed true to their roots and never sold out.

If Mustaine was in Metallica, would he have to get a haircut?

don't talk about fucking deth like that. this is the first time I've ever disagreed with you dude. I think you need to give their shit another listen. MoP is good, but I just love Deth. To each his own I guess... but I don't think that megadeth can be talked about like some red headed step child.
