You'd have to be some tenny-bopper to NOT realize the vast superiority enjoyed by METALLICA.......the proof is right before their beady little eyes.......

It'd be like thinking Jethro Dull was better than LED ZEPPELIN......

I don't even think that Megadeth should be compared to anybody at this point.... they're far superior. I would paste the images of their covers, but I don't feel like www.image.google.com searching.

that's a horrible analogy. I never said that Metallica sucked. You seem more obsessed about this topic than I am. Just close the fucking thread to save everyone the heartache.

Comparing Megadeth and Metallica is like comparing Led and The Who. Both are very different bands, One can truly not decide which one is better. I love Metallica '83-'91, They were the greatest Metal Band on the Planet during that time. Megadeth is good as well, Mustaine is very intelligent in his lryics, Mainly focusing on Social Issues, Very Much like The who in that respect. Metallica writes different, writing about War and the Death Penalty, Very good song writing on that side as well. Very good Musicianship in both bands, Both are defintly not as good, And they're will never be another band like them.

    Hmmm...
I believe "The Four Horsemen" and "Phantom Lord," two of Metallica's best songs EVER were on Kill 'Em All. And "Ride the Lightning" and "Call of the Ktulu", two more of their best songs were on the next one. I did not say album's worth of material. Listen to them back in the day? Hell yes I did and still do listen to the first three albums. Mmmkay???

Van Hagar fan? Me???? You must be fucking crazy!!!

    Wow it's 1987 again!

How do you decide if ome band is better than the other?

    Surely it's subjective, right?

I mean if we go on success, Metallica win hands down:

    95 million records to Megadeth's 20ish million

    Far bigger tours etc etc...

And thats not the sort of succes that's come from huge media campaigns and airplay like some shitty boyband now is it? It came from relentless touring up to about 1995 and building up a huge fanbase.

But still, selling more records and concert tickets doesn't make them "better" does it? Just means more people dig em.

Metallica have probably been more influencial, but again how would you test it?

To me the debate of who is "better" is purely artificial and untestable.

I'll always prefer Metallica, I'll always think they were more important, but I can't prove that they are "better", only state my opinion.

To me, the fact that this 20 years old debate still arouses such pasion is a testament to how truly great both bands are.

No shit, 'Ktulu' is an instrumental. I don't recall vox or no vox being an issue. Point is, it's a really good tune CO-WRITTEN by Mustaine!

I still would've love to see the line up of Mustaine-Hetfield-Burton-Ulrich, survive, Metallica Would've Been THE GREATEST METAL BAND EVER, No question, they would've owned Every fucking band on the planet with that line up. When You combine two forces like that, It would be like CVH in a sense.

But..Fucking egos have to ruin everything.

YOU Say Fade is better...I say what they say about opinions rings very true here.

How did Mustaine ride on Metallica's coattails? I never heard one Megadeth song that sounded like them except the stuff he helped write.

And for that matter, Cliff probably thought Lars was a dick, too! If he were here now, he'd probably hate every damn one of them.

Even if I am a Megadeth fan, I have to admit that Metallica have had more impact than Megadeth.....

In many years time who are people going to remember more, Metallica or Megadeth?

    probably Metallica.....most likely Metallica....

Metallica had better riffs also.....riffs should be about being memorable, not how complex they are.....

Of course Metallica had more of an impact.

That doesn't make Metallica better. Mariah Carey sold more records than Metallica did in the United States. By Matt White's logic, Mariah is better than Metallica who is better than Megadeth. I think album sales are irrelavent. I disagree on the riff thing though. Who fucking cares! I'm glad Dave got kicked out because we can enjoy two awesome bands.

one is just slightly more awesome

Dude, the fight is over. No one is more upset about this shit than you are. Everyone else agrees that both bands are better, and a 15:11 ratio prefers Megadeth. It's really not a big deal. Just listen to Master of Puppets and I'll listen to Rust in Peace.

I do agree with you there.... "Rust In Peace"* - 781,000 album sales sucks. However, that is a pretty good number for being a thrash metal act in a genre where Metallica was getting all of the gold.

I never said Metallica was better.....I prefer Megadeth.....I just said Metallica were greater, there's a difference....

Let's just leave this argument now, it's getting old.....it seems like there's a Metallica vs Megadeth or Iron Maiden vs Judas Priest thread every week....

    Aerosmith.... no shit.

The only reason my name is merrykiss.... is because kiss was my first favorite band. Also, when you say it fast it sounds like "Kiss my ass".

Yeah, somebody does seem bitter. Relax, man. You love Metallica. Point taken, but you will never convince some of us around here that they are better than Megadeth.

    ...because they're not
