    Respect the Wind

I saw the movie Twister when it first came out at the theatres. I guess I didn't stick around for the credits and so hear the song Respect the Wind. I saw the movie on tv the other day and heard the song for the first time during the credits. I know it was during the Sam era but at least he's not singing on it. It's freakin' awesome IMO. Eddie can make some of the most awesome sounds with a guitar. The tone in that song is out of this world. Man I wish he'd do a solo album. I don't think he's lost it like I've heard some people here say. Does anyone have any links to any other stuff he's done as far as soundtracks? I'd love to hear them.

Sorry, thats about it I'm afraid. It is a song I enjoy very much also, You can tell that at that time He was starting to devolop a new style that Dave could've easily been incorporated into, which they did With MWM, and CGTSNM, It could've started a whole new era, but instead he had to devolop his fucking ego again and that was the end of that and the beginning of VH3

I do agree that He should've done a solo album, His work on III was his best outside of anything CVH, BUT, Thanks to Cherone and crappy mixing it sounds very unlistenable. I think anything done without any influence from Hagar he can do quite well on.

    Not quite, sporto.

Van Halen has sountrack credits for movies such as Back To The Future, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, Twister, Wild Life, and Lethal Weapon 4.

    Other shit...

    Nicolette-Nicolette Larson (1978) Warner Bros. BSK 3243

Eddie plays guitar on track 4, called "Can't Get Away From You". (The liner notes list lead guitar as "?"). This album was produced and mixed by Ted Templeman and Donn Landee. Nicolette Larson also appeared on a Van Halen album. She sings along on one line of "Could This Be Magic?" off of Women And Children First; the first line of the chorus after Ed's solo.

    -----

My Mother Is A Space Cadet" -Dweezil and Moon Zappa (1982)

Eddie and Don Landee produced this single for the Zappa kids. (Dweezil was 12 at the time, according to Ed.) The flip side is "Crunchy Water". Eddie plays the intro to "Space Cadet".

    ----

The Seduction of Gina - TV movie (1983)

This starred Ed's wife, Valerie Bertinelli. Ed scored three songs for the soundtrack, BUT, none of them were released.

    ----

The Legend of 1900 (soundtrack) (1999) Sony Classical (SK 66767)

Ed performed two guitar solos on this Roger Waters-penned composition for the motion picture soundtrack.

    There's probably more out there.....

    "The Wild Life", circa 1984
(most of the soundtrack later mutated into various Van Hagar-tracks)

I also read that he played a riff for Tony Iommi. Tony liked it so much that he used it for a Sabbath tune (RJD era). It also mentioned that he didn't get credit for it.

Eddie really can't write music by himself. It took Dave or Chedmaster being in the studio with him to shape his riffs into something worthy of using.

The Starfleet album went well, but that's because Brian May CAN write songs independently. Roger Waters as well, though I still haven't heard that stuff.

Cool Break Like The Wind--Spinal Tappin'

We are the children who grew too fast
We are the dust of a future past
We raise our voices in the night
    Crying to heaven
And will our voices be heard
Or will they Break Like The Wind

We are the footprints across the sands
We are the thumb on a stranger's hand
We made a promise in the night
    Swearing to heaven
Is this a promise we keep
Or one we Break Like The Wind

We are the guests who have stayed too long
We are the end of the endless song
We send our hearts into the night
    Soaring to heaven
And will out hearts still beat on
Or will they Break Like The Wind
    Break Like The Wind
    Break Like The Wind

RTW is a great tune IMO because that's when Bette started having problems with the sisters and left like a bitch whining. It was a turning point in that era. I downloaded the track off of limewire and really enjoyed it. Besides, if any of you have the track, please listen to the last high note that Ed was holding onto for the last bit. It does resemble a bit MWM when it gets to the last part of the song.

Eddie co-wrote "Evil Eye" with Tony Iommi that was released on Black Sabbath's "Cross Purposes" album. Eddie was sleighted to come in and play the solo, but due to scheduling differences, management, the record company, depending on whom you choose to believe,he does not play on the track.
