Thumbs down I've defined today's country music.

It's a cross between reviving boogie rock and The Eurythmics' "Missionary Man." At least the uptempo "dance" ones are.

As for today's country ballads and actually all of modern country, what did happen to the music?
I seemed to have lost interest in it since the 70's.

IMO, it's become too dominated by big record companies that force artists to fit into a set style and sound, thus becoming a product rather than a muscian, and selling style over substance.

Pretty much like a lot of other types of music, companies don't want to promote anything new, they just want records that will get an instant sell....

Ever since Garth Brooks retired, country went straight downhill. And the deaths of Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings certainly didn't help matters.

And don't even get me started on the Busheep propagandists posing as "musicians" like Toby Keith and that other fucking asshole Darryl Worthless or whatever his name was.

It's being marketed as an alternative to adult cuntemporary. Gram Parsons is rollin' over somewhere near the Joshua Tree...thing is, it sells. It sells to people that grew up with Rock & Roll. Then, somewhere along the way, they found the new cuntry an acceptable alternative to Celine Dijon or whatever.

They fucking hide the Poison and Ratt discs from their kids, 'cause they don't want 'em cuntsidering the fact their mommas' danced, and their daddys' liked rock and roll.

    Guess what dipshits?

Kenney Chesney & company are LAME to them. In fact, the shit is depressing them to the point of busting out mop hairdos, and crying alot.

    Get it together folks.

Tipper Gore needs to weigh in on this disturbing direction in parenting.

You've pretty much nailed it Dude. Hank Jr.'s still around but the scenc is pretty bleak after that. Today's "Country" stations don't even play Willie or Waylon.

Eh, EVERYBODY listens to country up here, its wierd, considering the fact that we're a northern state. There are a few decent groups out there, they I auctually quite don't mind listening to. It's gotten pretty bad that the guitarists in country music are auctually better than a lot of the modern rock guitarists out there. The way I look at it, at least country music seems to be treating their fans kay, I mean an example of this is watch GAC or CMT, they show videos about 95% of the time, whereas MTV does not.

Everybody is going to laugh when I say this, But Thanks to that SWTD, Country fans are auctually intrested in Roth. My Best Friend who is a Huge Garth Brooks Fan, was watching CMT,Watched the whole thing and now wants to listen me to burn him SWTD, Because He knows I'm a huge Roth Fan and I'd have it. So I'm Going to burn him The Songs but put the Orignals right next to him, So he can hear the Real Thing.

This is country music. Hell, this is just great in your face protest music, for that matter. A true classic by any standards......

Sing along with this one, or drink more until you remember the words!

It's sad that two of the guys in this video are now gone, and that the Nashville establishment has shunned the other two because they dare to speak their minds.....

Maybe, but Willie has never really cared about "fitting in" with the Nashville crowd. He's carved his own road. Still, it'd be nice if they played his stuff once in a while.

My dad says that he was a "Democrap" when he was younger. His philosophy? He was a Democrat when he was younger because he had a heart. He turned Republican when he got a brain.

What happened to country music of today is what happened to rock after Van Halen. You had someone huge (Garth Brooks) and not many years later the immitators came. I liken today's country music to the hair band phase of rock. At some point, someone will smack it in the face and turn it back to what it was.

Maybe the modern country singers, much like the hip-hoppers and boy band counterparts have forgotten the roots of their music?

Just take that "I gotta new girlfriend" tune... remove the fiddle, throw in a piano and rock guitar and you could have Bob Seger singin' that song.

Singing one of the greatest country songs NOT written in Nashville, here's Keith Richards, Willie Nelson, Hank Williams III, and Ryan Adams, who oddly enough looks like Keith Richards, stepped out of a time machine from 1966.

I think this thread has some very valid points and critisims. It really is a shame what has happened with Country Music. While I would be considered a very casual fan which leans more towards the "Rockabilly" side of the genre, I think what is being called country today just plane sucks.

What Johhny Cash was able to do by incorporating Gospel, Country, and Rock & Roll was just cool. Not to mention Elvis' work was revolutionary and timeless. Anyway, what a shame..

Yep, it's essentially a Folk music that is dying because of the almighty dollar....

Not many types of music I don't like but damn, I just can't get into this country thing. God knows I have to hear enough of the shit living in the south.

Country music is the slowest form of music to adapt to modern technology. It's just a songwriting machine formula that you don't stray too far from if you want Nashville's endorsement.

I'll get my fill of Nashville this weekend after going to watch the Razorbacks play Vanderbilt. Yee-haw...
