Not Derek Riggs, but very good, nonetheless!

pretty kick ass. Eddie the Head is looking awesome nowadays. I can't wait to see what that guy from Deviant Art is going to do for the new Megadeth cover.

That shit doesn't come out until September.... and the scheduled artwork is going to be different I thought.

    <img src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/b/b9/Iron-maiden_a-matter-of-life-and-death.jpg/200px-Iron-maiden_a-matter-of-life-and-death.jpg"></img>

A Matter of Life and Death is an Iron Maiden album due to be released on 5 September 2006. It will be the band's fourteenth studio album and third studio album co-produced by Kevin Shirley. The band started to write the songs near the end of 2005 after their hugely successful appearances in the USA and Europe. After Christmas, the songs were done and they started rehearsing at Sarm West Studios in London. The album will not be a concept album [1].

This 72+ minute album is most likely the most progressive approach they have taken since the Seventh Son of a Seventh Son album.

The first single to be released from the album is "The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg". It is due out on 14 August. The video for the single is available on the official Iron Maiden website.

The second track on the album, "These Colours Don't Run" is about being a soldier in the war zone. According to lead singer Bruce Dickinson in an interview with Kerrang! magazine; "the song was an effort to put a human face on people who go out and fight wars. They call it 'peacekeeping', but these people put themselves in harm's way, and whether or not you agree with the reasons why they're doing it, they're just doing their job"

"Brighter Than a Thousand Suns" is about the atomic bomb as Dickinson said in an interview with the Kerrang! magazine; "The scientist that saw the first bomb go off said it was brighter than a thousand suns. The idea that human beings could bring about their own total destruction totally changed the way people thought".

"For the Greater Good of God" is rumoured to have female back up vocals, a first time for the band.

Judging by the track listing for the album, this will be Iron Maiden's fourth album that is not named after a specific song on the album. Other similar albums are Piece of Mind, The X Factor and Virtual XI.
    [edit]

    Track listing

    1. "Different Worlds" (Adrian Smith, Steve Harris) – 4:17
    2. "These Colours Don't Run" (Smith, Harris, Bruce Dickinson) – 6:52
    3. "Brighter Than a Thousand Suns" (Smith, Harris, Dickinson) – 8:44
    4. "The Pilgrim" (Janick Gers, Harris) – 5:07
    5. "The Longest Day" (Smith, Harris, Dickinson) – 7:48
    6. "Out Of the Shadows" (Dickinson, Harris) – 5:36
    7. "The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg" (Dave Murray, Harris) – 7:21
    8. "For the Greater Good of God" (Harris) – 9:24
    9. "Lord of Light" (Smith, Harris, Dickinson) – 7:23
    10. "The Legacy" (Gers, Harris) – 9:20

That other artwork is for the single, not the album. It looks pretty nice. Not the CG stuff we've gotten lately.

They should have taken the single artwork and made it the album cover...looks a lot better and has more of a classic Maiden vibe to it...

Well from the sound of the single and this artwork for it , Looks like they are heading back in the right direction for the first time in a good
while. So i'm not complaining. so far so good. But it is much cooler than the album (cd) cover. Hopefully the rest of the cd won't burst my bubble.

That artwork is much better than on the last few records - I hope the old school vibe extends to the music.

Well, Dance of Death was pretty boring. That's only one example. I've seen them dozens of times live-and live they're great! For years they have promoted very boring product. I live with the world's biggest Maiden fan-even she agrees with me.
Their management (more than likely 'Arry) has really become the Gene $immons of metal. Live album after live album, remasters galore, greatest hits, mediocre product, etc! WTF? They have gotten so stale creatively that they have to depend on what they did in the past knowing that their die-hards will buy anything Maiden-even if they already own a hundred copies in one form or another. They used to care about the music quality. Lately all they've seemed to care about is the pound note. That's far from what they used to be and far from my definition of true to oneself. That being said, I hope the new disc will see a return to the Maiden from back in the day! There are hints there, at least with that single and it's cover.

All I'm saying is that, for example, some may say EVH is being true to himself. Maybe he is. But that would have to be his present self NOT his past!

Well, IMO, changing with time is a poor excuse for becoming bored and lazy.

This thread was about the cover for the new single. If they had always been true to themselves, as you say, then they would have never come out with that piece of shit cover for DoD. Oh, I guess they "changed with time" for that album only to change back for this one.

    Hey,
Don't get all worked up there!

Ever heard of David Lee Roth?
He is no longer bending over backwards and summersalting on stage... nor his he wearing spandex tights.
His musical influences change as often as his underwear do but,
    He remains true to himself.

Do you still have a mullet haircut?
If so, don't you change that... ever!

Bien vu, BG. It's cool to see you're back around here.

I never could stand Maiden, personally. I'll never say it's no good, of course, but those grandiloquent, pseudo-epic lyrics and way too far-fetched riffs, well, no thanks.
My brother came up against one of the guitarists in Lille a few years ago. They had hired a concert hall there to rehearse before a European tour.
Dave's Spandex's... BTW, my bro told me the guy still wore large ray bans, very tight t-shirts and jeans jacket, still had the long, long hair like in 1980... As far as I'm concerned I don't give much shit about look in general. It's more about their music, but then all tastes are in nature...

    Wanna know "untrue to oneself"?
    Try Tomme Lee;

Back in the 80's the trend was R&R Hairbands,
    He did R&R Hairband.

In the mid. 90's, the trend had became Hip Hop (goin' to jail) Rappers,
He TRYED the jail/rapper shit but OUP! realized it had nothing to do with him.

So in the 2000's, the trend comes back to R&R (trends have a 20 years cycle),
He comes back to R&R but guess what? Kids want kids... not old farts like him.

Moving along with the trends with your clothing, furniture and overall looks is a sign that you can evoluate but,
Tagging along with every new trend as far as music goes, is a sign that you are desperatly trying to SELL
(at all cost) because you have been forgotten, somewhere down the road...

Maiden and D.L.R. (for exemple) are NOT trendy at all.
    They make their own.

    Eille Jérôme!
    Quoi de neuf?

    Well... you know me...
Fashion is my life and if people don't want to change that, it is le chômage pour moi!

Some people look good in their old originals... I have a 44 years old friend who still looks awsome in her Gothic outfits and died jet black hair... she will never change it. We all have a hard time imagining her otherwise.

I also know some guys that never left their KISS T-Shirts and they are looking great too.

I guess it's the copying the younger generation when in your 40's that really bothers me. That and the refusal to "act your age" like hairpiece on balding men, mini skirts on 57 yrs old women etc...

If Elvis was still alive, I would hate to see him in a baby blue jump suit but I wouldn't mind seing Jimmy Hendrix in his tight hippie clothes...

    I guess it all depends...
I love Maiden... whatever they do, as long as they never Rap or twirl a Disco ball!
Although... I do, like Rap and Disco? L.O.L.

But Jérôme, he had never left the taped jeans... now the kids are immitating that.
And sorry to say but, in "some European countries" (obviously not France),
fashion has been stucked in the 80's ever since!

Well fashion here has often startled me... Lately it's been those awful jeans with thin vertical lines that so many of my pupils will wear... Yark!

Iron Maiden's look was pretty close to AC/DC's Young bros. I don't care that much about how musicians look, except when I find their music crappy.
Had they not had those amazing record sleeves, they wouldn't have had a quarter of the success they've met, I think. CVH would probably have been even more huge if they had hired a designer about as crafty...
But well, I don't want to spoil this thread, as I'm not sure you can find any more anti-Maiden than I am...

His musical influences change as often as his underwear do but,
    He remains true to himself.

Do you still have a mullet haircut?
If so, don't you change that... ever!
Don't worry. You didn't ruffle my feathers

However, we can't seem to agree on the definition of "true..." I guess technically you may be right, but the Maiden I know and love wouldn't dare release so much of the lackluster, uninteresting crap they have of late, therefore, being quite untrue... I miss that fire they once had. You used to be able to actually hear the great time they were having. Lately, they've seemed to be just there, perhaps out of obligation. I dunno. Just listen to Bruce on his solo stuff, and then with Maiden's more recent releases. You can hear his excitement in his solo work-you can almost hear him yawn w/Maiden.
I suppose you are again technically right with "changing..." Becoming bored and complacent is definitely a change.
With all that said, I hope that this new stuff is going to be a return to that fire that I miss.

And, sorry to disappoint, but I've NEVER had a mullet. My hair was very long, cool, and rock 'n' roll at one time, though. I miss it

    Everyone gets old...
I guess Maiden is no exeption!

Although I think that Bruce still has lots of energie, moving around on stage?

    On another note,

We saw "The Cult" in May and where very disapointed.
Ian Astbury has no more voice, can't dance anymore and DID hit his own head with the microphone post...
    Yes! His face went

    Time to retire!

    That bad, huh?
I used to dig the Cult, but Astbury seems to have taken the Doors gig way too far.

"The Cult" has been on of my very favorite band of all times...
I used to loooove Ian and really fantasize about him but now?
He did let go of himself.
Wearing a big swet shirt over his beer belly (turn-off)!

As far as "The Doors", I saw that show 2 years ago and not that Jim Morrisson can be replaced but
I thought that Astbury did a good job...
He didn't have to move so much and the voice was there.

I miss that long haired/red lips/white skin babe!

He really has - and is voice is just as good (or bad, depending on your opinion) as 25 years ago!

Everyone does get old - it's about whether you do it with class or not. Fighting age just makes it worse....

This new maiden disc's going to kick ass! First 'The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg' then 'Different World'. I can't wait.
