the thing that bugs me about kiss is they care more about selling lunchboxes and shit likt that, then making albums ,the last 15 years has proved that .they released anything good ,but they still push there stupid kiss coffins ect.....
Gene hasn't said/written/recorded anything even remotely important or interesting in the last 25 years.
OK, he helped get Van Halen noticed...BFD...Van Halen was so fucking good back then they were going to hit it anyway...anybody here who denies that shouldn't be here...Gene just happened along at the right time.
Good for him, good for us, yeah...but if it hadn't have been him, it would have been somebody else...giving Gene "props" and praising him for financing Van Halen's demo 30 years ago...OK...whatever...
Frankly, I can't stand the guy and think he's a worthless piece of fuck as a musician. That being said, I do like classic Kiss, but after 1978 or so? Not really.
Producing Van Halen's demo is probably the most important thing he's ever done in my eyes...
Just my .03, because .02 just ain't enough...
Twistin' by the pool.
to tell you the truth ,i did like some of the non-make -up albums ....lick it up ,animalize....after that nothing
I never liked one after Alive II except for the unplugged one, and that one only during the reunion part.
Meet us in the future, not the pasture
Lick It Up and Animalize have their moments, and they're the only post-Frehley albums that do. After that, KISS turned into a slightly above-average hair band, whereas in the 70s, they were an average rock band that had elevated performance art to become a great live act.Originally posted by BALLYJUNKIE

Do you know why Gene is THE man?
You 2 assclowns don't have a clue!
If it wasn't for Gene...Van Halen might not have been as successful as you want to believe. He believed in them after seeing them and wanted to sign them on the spot, instead he had them cut a demo tape and shopped it. Eventually Warner Bros. heard it. Kiss took Van Halen under their wing and gave them an opening spot (discovering young great talent) like they always have done, because they KNOW what its like to be the underdog. Do your homework. Kiss has been very genorous to many bands.
If you don't like Gene, that's fine but as a fan of CVH you have to tip your hat to him.
For those that think he can't play...

I don't care for Gene's appetite for money-money-money, and the things he's done for it...But, he did give the world a huge icon with Van Halen, Roth Style...
I stopped attending shows after Ace and Peter left, didn't even buy the albums anymore. I just recorded my friends.Originally posted by diamondD

I absolutely couldn't stand the Vinnie Vincent version at all.
Bruce Kullick kind of brought me back into their corner, just not as the fanatic i was in the 70's.
Ace Frehley made me want to play the guitar.
Edward Van Halen made me want to play it better.
Excerpts from Gene's Kiss and Tell book on Van Halen... very interesting book.
I no longer have Kiss and Make Up... but i saw it at the bookstore new for 5 bucks. I might pick it up again just for collective purposes.

As far as the observation of the Kulick / Vincent debate.
The two -stand out- tunes from 1980 to today are in my op.
-Lick it Up- and -Love it Loud -Both written by Vincent.
just a op on the -without- Ace debate....

Not a Kiss fan then Bob?
I have to say that in the 80's they certainly became parodys of themselves, but if I ever want fun, good time rock music I always turn to Kiss or CVH.
Sure, you could never claim that Kiss had any substance, but they were fun.
In terms of importance, I think that they had a huge effect on the music INDUSTRY: stadium rock, merchandising.
For better or worse, that's an impact.
No it isn't, they're both a tinge above mediocre.Originally posted by binnie

Debating 'who's a better bassist, Michael Anthony or Gene Simmons,' is sort of like debating who's a better sprinter (in the Special Olympics).

That's a valid point, I can't argue against that!
I was just reading a part of Gene's latest book (the title escapes me now) and he was saying he has legal ownership over the $ symbol so if anyone uses it he can take legal action.
"To keep up with me, you must be fast. To sing like me, you must be great. To beat me? You must be kidding!"

Absolutely correct too. However, he probably thinks he is the best bassist on Earth. That mofo is beyond full of himself. It's also an urban legend that he did 4600 women. Shannon and Gene said that he made it up to really live up the rock star persona.
Cunt. If it didn't happen, don't say it.
4600, no way! Maybe if he counted every pussy he stuck a finger into.
Simmons produced some demos with Van Halen before they put out their first album.
That's pretty much it. Van Halen ended up with Warner Brothers, not Casablanca. If Gene and Aucoin had followed through, Simmons would have a more substantial place in Van halen history. The reality is he didn't 'discover' Van Halen and his role in getting them famous was marginal, at best.
Gene was able to recognize talent when he saw it right in front of him. Okay. Am sure that around 1977 it probably looked attractive to try and get Ed and maybe Alex into KISS, as problems with Ace and Pete were starting to surface, and 1981-1982 wasn't a great time for KISS, either - but Gene is correct in saying that Ed's style was never suited for KISS. Just as well it never happened.
Simmons is okay as a bass player. He has said McCartney influenced him a lot, and I can hear a bit of that in his playing. Think the bass lines in tunes like Detroit Rock City and Rock and Roll All Nite are cool as fuck, myself. No Jaco to be sure, but since he approached Kiss as a business as much as a band, he got the job done.
His new "the Osbournes"-style show is right up there with Gene Simmons's Rock School; an uninspired ripoff where we get to hear him continue to blather about how big KISS is, how much money he's made and how many women he's banged. Boring.
Scramby eggs and bacon.

Was the book called Sex, Money, KISS?
I fucking hate KISS because of Gene.
Well we all know it was Ted Templeman who finally got them a record deal with WB. Otherwise, why the hell would Michael Anthony be yelling out at the Pasadena Civic concert: "TED TEMPLEMAN WHERE ARE YOU?!?!? THIS ONE'S FOR YOU BABY!!!!" my other favorite line is "Thank you, your the best fuckin audience in the world whooo!!"
