Meat Loaf releases a new single

Meat Loaf has released a single of a new song called "The Monster Is Loose". It features classic artwork on the cover, and the song itself sports a slightly modern sound with heavy guitars and Meat Loaf's classic operatic vocals. Check it out

    Already done it, I think....

Actually, I don't think Jim Steinman's involved in Bat Out of Hell III, so we'll see where it goes...

Following tradition, it'll debut somewhere at the top of the charts, all Bat Out of Hell albums do.

Like a bat out of hell
Ill be gone when the morning comes
    When the night is over
Like a bat out of hell Ill be gone gone gone
Like a bat out of hell Ill be gone when the morning comes
    When the day is done
    And the sun goes down
    And the moonlights shining through
Then like a sinner before the gates of heaven
Ill come crawling on back to you

No he's not. He refused to be part of it and as he owns the name "Bat out of Hell" refused to ML use it intially.

Meat then launched a huge lawsuit claiming damages to his future earnings.

    I guess he won...

Well, anybody can write Broadway rock that sounds like Bat Out of Hell...Christ, I can write Steinmann as well as he can. It doesn't take much, just a sonic bombardment, really...a lot of musicians do it today...Jon Oliva Inc. and Andrew W.K. leap to mind immediately, and there's a hundred others at a minimum...

Technically, Steinmann doesn't have to be involved with the album, per se - most of Meat's not Steinmann stuff has been fairly good, anyway, IMO.

If it goes #1, Jim'll probably regret his decision...but honestly, I really don't think it's going to in this day and age.

Again, I said the same thing about Bat Out of Hell II a month before it's release and was I ever wrong...

    So...we'll see...

I like Meatloaf, and I'm a little ashamed to admit that. But there is no way in hell it's gonna' work without Steinmann.

Can't he come up with an album title other than "Bat Out Of Hell"? "Bat Out Of Hell III" is bordering on the absurd. The next one will be called "Bat Out Of Hell IV, The Hell With All This Hell Shit".

Bat Out of Hell came out in '77, I think...Bat Out of Hell II in '93, Bat Out of Hell - Live With the Melbourne Symphony in '04...and now Bat Out of Hell III in '06.

Between all of those, he's recorded Dead Ringer in '81, Midnight at the Lost and Found in '83, Bad Attitude in '84, Blind Before I Stop in '86, Live at Wembley in '87, Welcome to the Neighborhood in '96, Live Around the World in '96, The Very Best Of in '98 (I count that because of the new material on it), VH1 Storytellers in '99, and Couldn't Have Said it Better in '03.

With a break between '77 and '81, Meat Loaf's been making music almost consistantly since 1977 and the "Bat Out of Hell" series of titles is just something he revisits every 13-15 years or so.

He's done plenty of non Bat Out of Hell albums over the years, actually. Mostly it's people who really aren't too familiar with his music that think the Bat Out of Hell series is all he does...

Admittedly, those albums are without a doubt his biggest hits...

    yes he is involved,

"Seven songs on the album were written by Jim Steinman, producer of Bat Out of Hell II, and principal songwriter of the first two albums in the trilogy. His involvement follows the resolution of a lawsuit over the Bat out of Hell trademark between the longtime friends and collaborators Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman. The two came to an amicable agreement that ensured that Jim Steinman's music would be a continuing part of the Bat out of Hell legacy".

    but i won't buy that . No i won't buy that.

I confess that I am a bit ignorant about Mr. Loaf's music career, and I thought the BOOH albums were the only ones he had done. I'm not a fan of his music, just like I'm not a fan of the other meat loaf. Thanks for the enlightenment.

Ahhh! That clears that up...as much as two months ago, there was a lot of confusion as to whether or not Steinmann had any involvement. Meat Loaf was playing one or two songs in concert announcing them as "Written by Jim", but Jim was also denying involvement with the project.

    Guess that clears that up...

Maybe I didnt word that last post very well. For sure Im a fan.
Bat out of hell is one of the classics.

But Im also a believer in the original lineups of anything
magical.. What I was trying to say is that I wouldnt listen
to it, if JS had no input.

If Meatloaf himself tried to palm off "Bat 3" without Steinman,
    that would piss me off.

Steve Vai is supposed top play on at least one of the songs on the album.

I just listened to it earlier, and it's not bad, not bad at all. It has a surprisingly hard sound to it for a Meat Loaf song, probably because former DLR Band guitarist Johnny 5 Lowery was involved with it. Meat Loaf sounds like he's gangsta rapping the lyrics to the song, though.

The Loaf needs to bust this out @ a press cuntference, when they ask him about Steinman's whereabouts!

Didja hear when they asked Meat what he thought about
    Ozzy's career ??

    He burst into:

"I would do anything for cash
    But I wont bite bats,
    no I wont bite bats"

Yeah, Steinman's got alot more tact and class when it comes to not-so-subtle ownage.

When asked about the validity of his contribution to the Loaf's career?

"We were a team, he (the Loaf) delivered the goods. Celine Dion delivered a marginal interpretation of one of my songs. I don't really want to get into my thoughts on that recording...."

You know, it's grate to be able to recognize a Jim Steinman song a mile away, every time...Celine Dion...Air Supply...Meat Loaf...Bonnie Tyler...all VERY different musicians, and yet when they sing a Jim Steinman song, you just can't miss it...Wagnerian rock is so utterly distinctive, especially in Steinman's font.

Well, Jim's contributed, what, 7 songs to "Bat III", and it looks like a few of the usual suspects are in place (Brian May back from "Bat II", Todd Rundgren too...odds are, when you throw Todd Rundgren into the mix, you're gonna get something fucking wonderful out of it...).

I wonder if Max Weinberg's sitting in on the drums again?
