Which Veteran Rock/Metal Singer has best kept their Vocal Abilities ?

Inspired by the Ripper Owens/ Rob Halford debate.

Which veteran Rock/metal singers, still have the goods ??
Which fuckers should retire disgracefully ?

There's a few that immediately spring to mind.

Rob Halford has definately stayed in touch. (IMO)

I wonder if we can figure out who the oldest set of
pipes is, (Still performing) that is still delivering the goods !!

    Love ya Mary Frances!

Interesting, and not one that was in my head...
I guess compared to Halford, DIO, Ozzy etc etc
He is still relatively young. But I agree that the
fucker can still sing. Does he deliver live ??
Ive heard he is prone to throwing his handbag
    around and not finishing gigs....
    (Perhaps Im misinformed)

Never was a huge Motley fan, but fuck, that was
    a great show !

I liked that show too. Vince Neil has a horrible voice though. Listen to "On with the Show". Probably the worst vocals ever laid down.

MKM2U, Rock out man ! Should be a good show...

Just hope Geoff doesnt have his period that night

T-T ! You got linkage to Coverdale ? I havent heard him
sing that shit live since the early 90's..
He always seemed to be on a mission to prove he
could "out plant" Robert Plant... Perhaps he might
    be finally winning that one..

    *However*

The imitator can never be the original !

That old Whitesnake shit with Viv Campbell was
pretty cool... Good verse riff in that song...

    Relax man,
The question was who has kept their vocal abilities right?
Just sayin the guy can still sing quite well for a damn near senior citizen. I'm not sayin he's that original. Also I prefer their late 70's to very early 80's stuff. I was talking about the DVD Whitesnake: Live... in the Still of the Night. It's a full concert from 2004 with Reb Beach on guitar and Tommy Aldridge on drums. give it a listen and tell me someone his age sounding like that is not top notch

Tommy Alridge is a top notch skin basher, I will check this
out !!! I have faith in my fellow rotharian's judgement.
FYI, I always thought coverdale had a good voice.
Im not convinced that Sammy didnt write some of
his lyrics though.. Fookin melted cheese at times...

That's some funny shit and I have to agree with ya on that one
especially the Tawny Kitaen era. But do look into the live disc. there's even killer versions of Deep Purple classics "Stormbringer" and "Burn" on it.

    No way, man.

He`s still a damn fine singer but he can`t get anywhere near the high notes of "Queen of the Reich", "The Warning" or "Rage for order" era these days.

Gene Simmons' voice has not deteriorated over the years. It was never great, but it hasn't worsened.

Robert Plant is an example of someone who hasn't kept their vocal abilities.....can't hit the high notes or do the screams he used to.....his voice is getting weaker too....but it is too be expected....I think he damaged or completely ripped his vocal cords in the 70s.....

that's because it was already so bad that nobody (probably) noticed the difference....same with Mustaine....

Bruce Dickinson, he's really managed to keep his vocal range in top shape. And King Diamond, he STILL hits fucked up high notes

I was thinkin DIO would probably feature heavily here...
I thought that dude was 100 years old, 20 years ago,
yet he still sounds the same on stage today..

If you think about it, he started singing with "ELF" in the 60's,
so he's been belting it out for 40 fookin years...
that fucker has to be in the running here....

DIO or Halford for me (so far) but I know theres someone
else out there, like Coverdale.. Im sure...

Bruce Dickenson still hits the notes. Halford live is struggling a wee bit on some of those classic screams.

One guy who still is doing well is Marc Storace of Krokus. Believe it or not, they're still putting out music.

On album, Ian Gillan sounds great but he can't hit the high notes live anymore. Anyone who heard Highway Star at the Live 8 show, knows that.

Ahh fuck it, there's only one guy who sounds as good as he used to-
    LEMMY!!!! Fuck all the others!

Freddie Mercury was still very good in his later years.....but because he smoked so much he couldn't hit the high notes.....

I don't think he really counts though, as he was quite young(ish) when he died.....45 or 46 years old....

I have to agree on Halford and add Paul Stanley and Dio to the list.
Yeah right she says, maybe in your dreams!

    Pat Benatar.

If anything, her voice had improved when this picture was taken @ a local amphitheater. I almost got thrown out of that show for throwing a battery operated fan into the lawn seats....this was after I offered said fan to Neil Geraldo during his audience blues solo. This story has been posted before, but not this pic. Fuck the fuck off.

    Great call RUSS !

Pat Benatar. What a legend she is...
I wasnt thinking women when I started this thread, but she
definately deserves to be here, and if we are speaking chicks,
how about the Wilson sisters, Anne and Nancy ???
Both of them have lost nothing to age...

    Cool story about the fan

I would fucking love Pat Benatar and Neil Geraldo to tour
Australia. In fact I might hunt em down when Im next in
the US... I *MUST* see her live before she calls it a day..

Mustaine has a bad voice... works for thrash.

I don't know....I haven't heard his recent studio or live work....
He was pretty awesome on Queensryche's OMC2 and Holy Diver Live. (both 2006)

I've been into TNT for over 20 years, and Tony Harnell sounds even better than he did on Knights of the New Thunder. It's too bad he just left them (again!) Hell of a vocalist even though a bit effeminate sounding. Incredible range and power and no spring chicken these days.

Ok, those who still have it:

    Dio
    Bruce Dickinson
Axl Rose ( I was very surprised, but there again, it's not like he's strained it through over touring)

From what I've heard, Geof Tate still sounds good, but I'm yet to see them live on this tour.

Halford still has a great voice, although a lot of the wail has gone. But for a man in his mid 50's, he kicks a lot of ass
