When I was 4, "Momo & Ursule" was my fave.
Then when I was 5/6 years old, it was "Waldo Kitty". And "Hong Kong Fooey". Damn I was mad for those two.
I loved "Scoobidoo" too, and "Wacky Races".
What did you dig watching when you were a kid?

I still know every single "Tintin" by heart, I liked Asterix and Lucky Luke too, but not as much.
"Gaston Lagaffe" was like "compulsory". "Les tuniques bleues", "Achille Talon" (my top fave, this one) and many other "bd's"...
"Martine" used to produce the same effect as "Natacha" when I was 4 or so and had a look at a few volumes in my (young) aunt's room... I found the design fantastic, and I had a soft spot for Martine.
But I intended to evoke cartoons in particular.
There's a great site that classified them old TV programmes, which is called TV Ark where you'll find loads of trailers, mostly, but also many programme extracts. At least out of curiosity it's worth having a go.

BTW, it wasn't a cartoon, but at the same period, around 1975, I went crazy for "Here come the double deckers"... I know, when you see that today it looks and sounds ridiculous, you'll say to yourself "how could I enjoy that?!", but I think that what counts is how you felt at that time.
Here are the trailers, intro and outro. Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I never got into the Japanese stuff. But I recognize that what I used to watch was naive too...
A varying diet when I wasn't listening to music and/or playing with the girl next door:
Disney (the "regular" toons and those specials á la Fantasia), Hanna-Barbera, Care Bears, Lucky Luke, TMNT, Tex Avery-toons, Inspector Gadget, those Asterix-movies, He-Man...
There's more, but my memory is a bit sleepy at the moment.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Speed Racer, My Little Pony, Pound Puppies, The Real Ghostbusters, Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, and Sailor Moon.

Except the first two, it's the same that the youngest of my two sisters who is 20 now used to talk me about at the time. Plus her fave, if I remember well, "Beetlejuice".
She was into "mangas" like most of children her age. I thought that sometimes the designers went a bit far concerning the girls's legs - but well, that's how many girls are built!
When the Japanese started to produce cartoons towards the end of the seventies, there was a very noticeable improvement in the drawing of girls.
In fact there weren't that many girls in the toons I saw back in the days. And when there were some, there was nothing much arousing. There were three in "Captain Caveman", two in "Scoobidoo", Penelope in "Whacky Races", but we were light years away from the boob moves under shirts, and the buns that don't take you much effort to guess... In fact in the toons of the 60s and 70s you even hardly ever saw the girls' skin...
What the fuck is Grape Ape doing on top of the Mystery Machine?
Grape Ape... The French version was "Momo et Ursule", "Momo" being the big kickass gorilla with the cap, always sitting on the tiny car of the little dog ("Ursule"). I was fond of that one which was full of nonsense, like "Hong Kong Phooey" was.Originally posted by rustoffa

One day I paid visit to my goddaughter at her home, when she was about 8 years old. The TV was on when I arrived, it was Cartoon Network I think, and they were just announcing "Phooey" was the next program, which I hadn't seen for more than 20 years...
I told her about the toon, but when I noticed there was mockery on her face after a little while, saying "Did you really find this entertaining when you were a child?!", I suddenly felt much, much older.
That certainly was not the Mystery Machine. Thanks for passing my oldmotherfucker test!Originally posted by Jérôme Frenchise

Phooey remains the "Number One Superguy", and Spaceghost was the shit!!!
It was very easy...Originally posted by rustoffa

I've just googled Spaceghost for it didn't remind me anything. I don't think it was broadcast here. I remember getting a sticker in the cheese cream boxes my mum and grandmas used to buy at the time.Phooey remains the "Number One Superguy", and Spaceghost was the shit!!!
Hong Kong Fooey ("Fou-fou" in French, which means "scatterbrain") rather was a hero in spite of himself - an inoffensive cleaner at the police station who transforms into a kung fu wizard who manages to solve enigmas with nothing but sheer luck, while his "colleague" the cat who knocks himself out trying to show Fooey what to do and where to go, but he never ever notices...
It really is a universal thing, as far as animation goes. Did y'all get Fat Albert over there? It's weird that Spaceghost wouldn't have transposed, as the character is a bit of a cultural icon over here. The artsy fartsy dipshits on the cartoon channel actually did that "Spaceghost Coast To Coast" thing.

LMFAO....noone got it.
I loved Jonny Quest. I have all the old episodes on DVD and my kids love it as much as I did. Good cartoons are timeless.
No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!
Ren and Stimpy! Ok i wasn't a pre-teen anymore then. They used to show 5 minute WB toons on TV at 7:20 am when i was a kid. I always watched them before going to school. A few years before that it was Inspector Gadget and Transformers plus some others i don't remember anymore on Sky TV, on cable. And who can forget the original HE-MAN!?
Skeletor had the coolest bad guy voice this side of James Earl Jones.

I was a huge fan of Speed Racer, Marine Boy, Jonny Quest, Jonny Sokko and his Giant Robot and of course ULTRAMAN!!!!!!!! Lets not forget the classic Looney Toons, especially the episode where Daffy Duck is Robin Hood. YIKES AND AWAY!!!!!!!!!
That one was hilarious, yes. But it only arrived her in 1983 or so.Originally posted by Nickdfresh

There are several toons that that are mentioned here that I've never heard of, but then maybe it's only because of how they were translated.
In 78 we got the Japanese "Goldorak", which made every little boy go nutty as soon as the first 1/10 second of the trailer.

There was "Michel Vaillant", as far as comics, that was very well designed at the time.
But as far as racing cartoons all I had was "Wacky Races", which was kickass.

The Noozles. Do you know how long it took me to find out the name to that show? I used to come home from school, turn on Nick, and pray I didn't miss it.

I can remember my parents buying it in the store, I can remember taking it everywhere, and I can't remember where I put that thing. It's prob somewhere in my room. I also don't know what it was suppose to be. I remember knowing it was some cartoon-deal when I was younger. He was smaller than a GI Joe, but I loved that lil figure. Would fight with my cousin on using him as one of my guys when we would play GI Joes.
But we're talking ages ago, like before my brother was born (87). Why I remember this, I do not know.
I liked the old Looney Toons and Tom & Jerry. We can't forget Josie and the Pussycats. LOL! The cartoon that probably started very early sexual fantasies. LOL!
