When I was 4, "Momo & Ursule" was my fave.



Then when I was 5/6 years old, it was "Waldo Kitty". And "Hong Kong Fooey". Damn I was mad for those two.

I loved "Scoobidoo" too, and "Wacky Races".

What did you dig watching when you were a kid?

Other than that, we liked;
"Tintin", "Lucky Luke", "Asterix", "Philou", "Bob Moran", "Rick Ochet", "Albator" et autres...
I read almost all of the "Martines"...

O f course I did (read)! Walthery's "Natacha", mmh, ahem! ... used to arouse a certain zone of er...

I still know every single "Tintin" by heart, I liked Asterix and Lucky Luke too, but not as much.
"Gaston Lagaffe" was like "compulsory". "Les tuniques bleues", "Achille Talon" (my top fave, this one) and many other "bd's"...

"Martine" used to produce the same effect as "Natacha" when I was 4 or so and had a look at a few volumes in my (young) aunt's room... I found the design fantastic, and I had a soft spot for Martine.

But I intended to evoke cartoons in particular.
There's a great site that classified them old TV programmes, which is called TV Ark where you'll find loads of trailers, mostly, but also many programme extracts. At least out of curiosity it's worth having a go.

BTW, it wasn't a cartoon, but at the same period, around 1975, I went crazy for "Here come the double deckers"... I know, when you see that today it looks and sounds ridiculous, you'll say to yourself "how could I enjoy that?!", but I think that what counts is how you felt at that time.

Disney (the "regular" toons and those specials á la Fantasia), Hanna-Barbera, Care Bears, Lucky Luke, TMNT, Tex Avery-toons, Inspector Gadget, those Asterix-movies, He-Man...

Except the first two, it's the same that the youngest of my two sisters who is 20 now used to talk me about at the time. Plus her fave, if I remember well, "Beetlejuice".

She was into "mangas" like most of children her age. I thought that sometimes the designers went a bit far concerning the girls's legs - but well, that's how many girls are built!

When the Japanese started to produce cartoons towards the end of the seventies, there was a very noticeable improvement in the drawing of girls.
In fact there weren't that many girls in the toons I saw back in the days. And when there were some, there was nothing much arousing. There were three in "Captain Caveman", two in "Scoobidoo", Penelope in "Whacky Races", but we were light years away from the boob moves under shirts, and the buns that don't take you much effort to guess... In fact in the toons of the 60s and 70s you even hardly ever saw the girls' skin...

Grape Ape... The French version was "Momo et Ursule", "Momo" being the big kickass gorilla with the cap, always sitting on the tiny car of the little dog ("Ursule"). I was fond of that one which was full of nonsense, like "Hong Kong Phooey" was.

One day I paid visit to my goddaughter at her home, when she was about 8 years old. The TV was on when I arrived, it was Cartoon Network I think, and they were just announcing "Phooey" was the next program, which I hadn't seen for more than 20 years...
I told her about the toon, but when I noticed there was mockery on her face after a little while, saying "Did you really find this entertaining when you were a child?!", I suddenly felt much, much older.

I've just googled Spaceghost for it didn't remind me anything. I don't think it was broadcast here. I remember getting a sticker in the cheese cream boxes my mum and grandmas used to buy at the time.

Hong Kong Fooey ("Fou-fou" in French, which means "scatterbrain") rather was a hero in spite of himself - an inoffensive cleaner at the police station who transforms into a kung fu wizard who manages to solve enigmas with nothing but sheer luck, while his "colleague" the cat who knocks himself out trying to show Fooey what to do and where to go, but he never ever notices...

It really is a universal thing, as far as animation goes. Did y'all get Fat Albert over there? It's weird that Spaceghost wouldn't have transposed, as the character is a bit of a cultural icon over here. The artsy fartsy dipshits on the cartoon channel actually did that "Spaceghost Coast To Coast" thing.
