"Worst" of the Scorpions

This will be the last one for a bit, just to get them cleared out. I don't want to jam up the forum with one after another.

For me it's a slam dunk- Savage Amusement. I SOOOOO fucking hated this steaming pile of dogshit!!! After many great albums, and two smoking albums in Blackout and Love at First Sting, this fucking joke of an album came out....I DESPISED IT!!!! The only other time a band that I really loved put out as shitty a record, after a a number of good albums, was Krokus when they released Change of Address.

Choose the one you want, but I'm telling ya- Savage Amusement was the worst!

Eye II Eye sucks real bad! Their worst by far.
It's so far away from the classic Scorpions sound.

I quit buying from "Worldwide live" (1985), but I got a copy of "Unbreakable", which really is no good.
Not a fucking track to save!

So as I don't know what they did in between, IMO it's that one, by very far.

I liked Love At First Sting, but it created a monster that ruined the Scorpions. The record companies just wanted the hits and took away all of their creativity IMO. Then Wind Of Change really sealed their fate.

Toss-up between Winds of Change, Rhythm Of Love and that atrocious cover of The Who's "Can't Explain".

I'd rather listen to the cover of the Safari's "Wipe Out" off Hermann "Hermann Ze German" Rarebell's solo album than any of that shit.

Really? Unbreakable?

I think that is one of the best albums of the 21st Century thus far. Its classic Scorps, but with something a little darker/heavier thrown in the mix.

Oh, well, each to their own.

Thinking about it, The Scorps are pretty consisitenly good aren't they?

I would say that they had one of the strongest catalogues overall for any band.

Anyone else agree?

Each album had its moments, but its not the standard you expect from the Scorps.

We know what the scorps can do...and they were slacking there.

They sounded like the wanted to be U2 on Eye II Eye.

"Love at first sting" isn't that good IMO...

I bought that one on vinyl when it was released. At that time, 1984 that is, I soon got used to "skipping" (well, even though I had to stand up) half of the album (those I underlined).

"Bad Boys Running Wild"
"Rock You Like a Hurricane"
"I'm Leaving You" - what a bore...
"Coming Home" - never liked the riff.
"Same Thrill" - was the best track on the album IMO.
"Big City Nights" - Big chorus drag...
"As Soon as the Good Times Roll" - WTF did they think of??
"Crossfire" - pompous...
"Still Loving You"

That's 4/9 as far as I'm concerned.
If you consider the 79-85 period, from "Lovedrive" to "Worldwide Live", that is the first five records with Matthias Jabs, it only compares to "Animal Magnetism" I think.
"Lovedrive" and "Blackout" are way more consistent IMO...

Not to mention the Uli Roth years. "Fly to the rainbow", "In Trance", "Virgin Killer" and even "Taken by force", although they are definitely from another time, contain stronger compositions.

Plus Klaus Meine began really nasalizing his vocals between "Blackout" and "Love at first sting", which I find irritating.

The nasalizing of his voice might have something to do with the throat operation he had just before recording "Blackout". His career nearly ended because of it.

Unbreakable is an amazing record. The CD has, at a minimum, three solid hits ('Love 'Em or Leave 'Em; 'Someday is Now'; and 'My City, My Town'). I saw them live back in 1985 and two years ago and they still kick major ass. Unbreakable has the classic Scorpions sound and stands on its own when compared to 'Blackout', 'Lovedrive' and 'Love At First Sting'.

I agree with the comments regarding 'Eye II Eye'. It sucks and does not sound anything like Scorpions.

A huge minority... It sure is a great composition, but it just never made it for me. It's just the hammering of choruses I find really boring, and on "BCN" you certainly got it.
Sorry, I didn't mean to, but I sure sound like an old grump here.

BTW, as rucalobe insists, I should give "Unbreakable" a second fair listen.

I agree about "Winds of change" as being the worst of their least good tracks.
When it was played at a supermarket (where it's one of the biggest hits), as soon as the first tenth of a second's whistling, it was far more efficient for me to haste my shopping than the "Ladies & gentlemen, your supermarket is closing. Please go to the cash desks, thank you."

Winds of Change is possibly the song I turn off most often when it comes on the radio- not counting any Van Hagar shit.

Having said that, it may be a bad, irritating song, but it certainly gave them another chance. People were buying it who had never heard of them before. And I'm glad they didn't play it when they supported Judas Priest in Manchester...although, I believe they did play it in Glasgow.
