    College Football . . . Oct. 7

    Didn't see a thread started, so . . .

Biggest upset . . unranked Arkansas spanks #2 Auburn 27-10, Wow!

    #1 OSU cruises past BG.

#3 SC holds on against Washington 26-20, didn't see it, Brett, what's your take. Heard that the game ended with Wash. on SC's 15 yard line.

    #5 Florida 23 - # 9 LSU 10 . . . 1-2 punch of Leak and Tebow looks good.

    #23 Missouri 38 - Texas Tech 21 . . . Mizzou is undefeated.

    #7 Horns 28 - #14 sooners 10 . . . Always a good day when the sooners get beat.

Who's gonna be #2 this week. SC, #4 W. Virginia?

I think it's going to be a toss up between USC, West Virginia or Florida to be honest.

I was hoping that Florida would get dumped on their asses...no such luck...

USC should be 2...irregardless of how they looked...they didn't lose...

but WVU and Florida will be knocking on the door...

Texas winning big today helps OSU as well...Texas staying in the top 10 helps them in the BCS...

    not that they'll need it.

    Like I said before...

the higher Michigan is can only help OSU when the beat the fuck out of them...

Well that's the bottom line I guess, some voters will put W.V. ahead of SC though. Florida, too big of a jump from #5 to make it IMO.

Texas should stay there, maybe even move up a notch or 2, depending on how things play out. Only tough game left should be Nebraska on the road but the table should get run.

Not that OSU needs it though.

    No...the really don't need it...

and I don't think it's to far for Florida to Jump...they beat the piss out of a tough LSU team...

    but...

    with WVU looking good....

and USC not losing...it would take a bunch...

How far do you drop Auburn? Losing by 17 to an unranked team on your home field has to hurt. #5? #6? #7?

What a game. That Reggie Fish play made the #2 play of the week. Biggest Hog victory in since going in and smacking Texas in the mouth in Austin. I'm still recovering from the celebrating.

You're welcome Brett, USC just moved to #2 with that.

USC would have ended up there sooner or later...

Auburn's schedule was just to tough...

NEVER imagined that Arkansas would win that game though...

    and convincingly...

The SEC almost cannabilizes itself with so much talent. You have to be a really, really special team to make it all the way through the schedule and then the SEC championship game before you can even think of a national title.

Well...it's all a matter of location...they are good because most play in high school hotbeds...

If you look at 90% of the GREAT college teams...

they all play in highest per capita high school areas...

so their talent pool is much higher than most...

My take on USC is the offense is inconsistent. But, but but, remember we played yesterday without Dwayne Jarrett again and Steve Smith got hurt early in the second half. That means no experienced WR's, and no experienced RB's. Hard to build that consistency with the amount of injuries SC has had on offense this year.

The defese is fine, Washington made some big plays, but for the most part it's on the offense.

I think SC will move up to #2 because they pounded the shit out of Arkanas 50-14 and haven't lost yet and were already #2 in every poll but the AP. But I'm not really worried about it, if they finish 12-0 I am pretty confident they'll be playing for the national title. They will have beaten, Oregon, Cal, and Notre Dame at the end of the season then.

I actually think...if they go 12-0...OSU goes 12-0 and any team from the SEC goes undefeated (I doubt it...but it's possible)...

    USC will end up 3...

    right or wrong...

but it has to happen first...

It's amazing to me that a team like Arkansas can get hammered by USC at home...then fucking drop Auburn AT Auburn...and it wasn't even close...

A USC team who offensively hasn't played that well either this year. Who knew that game would really help USC this year.

Dude an SEC team went undefeated in 2004 and didn't come close to knocking USC out of the game...I know USC was #1 all year everywhere, but it wasn't even close. I am not even sure it was that close at #2 or was it?

I still say the SEC isn't that good this year, but I'm alone in that I am sure. I just think the conference is way overrated.

If Arkansas had played them as the 2nd game instead of it being moved by ESPN, they would have had a better chance to find out more things about themselves and adjust a little better. Robert Johnson probably wouldn't have been the starter, although it would have probably been Casey Dick, who was hurt. And without the 5 turnovers, it might have been a much tighter game. New OC and the most talented people on the team are mostly freshmen and sophomores that still had to gel together.

If they can keep it up, the only hurdles left are Tenn, S. Carolina, and LSU, who is now 2 games behind us in the West. And 2 of those are at home.

My mistake on the polls. The voters moved Florida into #2 and left USC at #3 because of their performances the last couple of weeks.

    Hogs at # 17!

Yep Florida is at #2. Good for them, doesn't bother me at all. USC hasn't played like normal yet this year. Like I said, I feel good if they go 12-0, they'll be there. If not, 12-0 is 12-0, I can't exactly cry over it either.

Apparantly the voters thought that Florida's SEC victory over LSU was a little more impressive than barely beating Washington.

Yes had USC pounded Washington, they'd be #2. I wouldn't say they barely beat them, SC let them back into the game about 50 times, but yes that last drive they were moving. Whatever doesn't really matter, SC's not going to beat good teams playing they are, that concerns me way more than the polls. At this point, Cal is going to own us unless the offense wakes up.

I'm not going to get into this discussion...other than to say this...

top to bottom...there isn't a conference better than the SEC...

it may be overrated...but you really have nothing to judge that on other than the Arkansas game...

    I despise the SEC...

but when you have as many teams in that conference that can beat you any day of the week...well...

    like I said...

    it's the best...period...

if you go team by team...there isn't even another conference that's close...

And I'm just looking team by team...not even at the polls...

I still don't think Florida should have jumped USC though...

it's not like LSU was undefeated...

All I know is USC has owned the SEC (forever not just the last 5 years) whenever they've played any of those teams. I've never been impressed, ever. Jesus SC walked into Auburn a few years ago with an entirely new team and won 23-0 in Auburn. When am I supposed to be impressed?

Last year the SEC was awful in bowl games, including Wisconsin destroying Auburn...and certainly not a great Wisconsin team.

And of course those teams rarely will travel out of the south. Arkansas coming to California was shocking to me, those schools never want to leave the south.

Well actually I was looking, SC is 17-10-1 against the SEC, but apart from Auburn and Arkansas they haven't played anyone else in the conference since 1985. Like Geogia for example, SC is 3-0 against them but hasn't played them since 1960. LOL. And 4-0 against Tennessee, but hasn't played them since 1981.

Well...I live down here...so I have these teams jammed down my fucking throat week after week...

after growing up with Big 10 football my entire life...I can safely say that the top tier SEC teams are as good as the top tier Big 10 teams...

I just think there are more top tier SEC teams overall...

Florida, Auburn, LSU and Georgia are at the top of that conference year in and year out (at least over the past 6 or 7 years)...

just those four teams at the top of any conference is daunting...

seriously...even if they aren't as good as USC...would YOU want USC playing those four week in and week out?

I sure wouldn't want OSU doing it...

Then you goto the 2nd tier...who by themselves...I don't think scares anyone...but...when you have games against Florida, Auburn, LSU and Georgia looming...doesn't give you a respite...

    Tennessee, Arkansas, Alabama, South Carolina...

and hell...the bottom four have been good recently...

Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss and Miss. State...

    point is...that fucking grind...

When you really look at it...

    it's mindboggling really...

Yep, far cry from when our biggest challenges every year were Texas and Texas A&M in the SWC, although I wish they could come over into the conference.

Being in this conference does improve your strength of schedule ratings tremendously. Last year we had the toughest schedule in the country by adding USC.

And in those bottom 4, we still have had to face a 1st round draft choice at QB at Vandy last year and Eli Manning at Ole Miss when he was around.

The Pac-10 was the only other conference to win more bowl games than they lost. The three bowl victories were by 12 points or less and against mediocre teams. This list is made up of UCLA’s shootout win over Northwestern (50-38), Cal’s win over BYU (35-28), and Arizona State’s win over Rutgers (45-40). In typical Pac-10 fashion, each game won by a Pac-10 team was a high scoring affair. However, these opponents are nothing to write home about.

The Pac-10’s most visible loss was USC’s Rose Bowl loss to Texas. The Trojans played the Longhorns close, but couldn’t stop Vince Young in the end. The conference only suffered one other loss in Oregon’s 17-14 loss to Oklahoma. In total, the Pac-10 didn’t have any embarrassing losses and stayed close in the two bowl games that they did lose. The Pac-10 has nothing to be ashamed of in their bowl games, but nothing really to pound their chests about either.

“Half” is the word that most accurately describes the SEC’s bowl game. The conference sent half of their teams to bowl games and won half of those. As always, the SEC played tough competition in their bowl games and their three wins include Alabama’s win over Texas Tech, Florida’s win over Iowa, and LSU’s annihilation of Miami. These wins are about as impressive as the wins the Big XII pulled off.

The three SEC losses were somewhat surprising. Auburn was handled by Wisonsin and lost by two touchdowns. Steve Spurrier and his South Carolina Gamecocks couldn’t outscore the Missouri Tigers and lost 38-31. Perhaps most surprising of all, SEC Champ Georgia found themselves trailing to Big East Champ West Virginia 28-0 quickly and couldn’t recover. The Bulldogs made a great comeback attempt, but couldn’t pull it out in the end and lost 38-35. Summing up the SEC’s bowl resume, I can say they had impressive wins and surprising losses

SEC scheduling is more than a grind, it's decimating for the top/mid-tier teams. UGA, UT, UF, AU...every year, conference play is make-or-break. Hats off to Nutt...he's been knocking on the door for a few years now.

Fuck...that UF D is no joke.

SC didn't play Texas close, they were up 12 with 5 minutes left and were the #1 team in the country. It was more like the other way around...Texas kept close to SC and pulled it out in the end thanks to some incredible play by Vince Young.

SC beat all comers for years, I'm sorry that we have to play in the Pac-10 and that's not good enough for a lot of you. The team's only out of conference loss to anyone in 5 years was a 3-pt loss to Texas, so whatever. There's no Division II schools in there, there's legitimate teams, from legitmate conferences. We play patsies sometimes, just like everyone else does, and we'll travel anywhere to play. A lot of schools don't do that. USC does.

You guys like to casually look past the good wins against RANKED out of conference opponents, because you say they came early, or they weren't a good team then...blah blah. I mean jesus, SC dominated Iowa in the Orange Bowl in 2003, owned Michigan in 2004 in the Rose Bowl, destroyed Oklahoma in 2005 for the national title, had a 12-point lead with 6 minutes left against Texas last year. I'll take that run anyday, and so would any of you.

The Pac-10 is a good conference, I'm not going to sit and argue it, I really don't care that much. I care about one school, and it's the school whose great run of success certainly doesn't need to be vaildated or defended.

Let UCLA, Oregon, Washington, or Cal fan defend their teams. They certainly may need to.

BTW, you fuckers always piss me off talking about this shit. LMAO

I'm just going to watch my games, and that's it. I'm not getting sucked into "Who's better and why" arguments anymore.

Ok....that's gonna last 2 days, but I'm going to try anyway!

    Even better than Vandy's?

LOL I wasn't arguing about whether the PAC-10 is a good conference.

I'm just still elated over the biggest win since '81 and have 5 more days to celebrate it.
