But there's really no reason Anthony WOULDN'T be there - if the Van Halens can put it together with Roth and make it work, getting the bass player back is small potatoes.

Mike should be there, but I think it's cool that Wolfgang will be involved. Maybe he will use a bass with a look that's inspired by his Dad's famous artwork. Wolfgang's involvement could also help grab the attention of the younger generation. Not that CVH ever had a problem with that.

I love it! Anyone associated with Sammy Hagar has been banned from Van Halen! Mike had great background vocals but his bass playing can be done by someone else. Good riddins to that stupid bass solo he always used to do as well.

In all reality, Jerome, I think you're right. I do feel I would buy a ticket no matter who is on bass, but ideally, yes, it should be BassPlayer, but it won't stop me in my trax if he's not involved. Some will protest him not being in the band for the tour, but I won't.
I do think that since Wolfie is underage and still in school, his mother may not allow this to happen. I think Al (who has a son the same age as Wolfie) would talk Ed out of the thought of having Wolfie join them on tour.
I assume that the negotiations that are taking place behind the scene are the lawyers for all parties, including BassPlayer. I guess he would be like a 'Contract Hire" to do the tour, but I am sure BassPlayer hired himself a powerful lawyer so he can be part of this tour and make his million....he'll never see that kind of $$$ opportunity again.
Or maybe the Van Halen's will hire another "Contract" BassPlayer...Billy Sheehan or Todd Jensen ?

I mean, I have strictly no sympathy for Anthony for the reasons we all know, but though it's a pain in the ass, if it actually happens Anthony will have to be there - plus it's true that if they could somehow reconcile with Dave, then M. A. should be a mere formality - except it's Dave who can bear a grudge on him, but as he said himself, "no CVH Reunion without Mike Anthony", so, it really looks like it's going to be, if it's really going to take place, a 100% reunion.

Now I've been drinking Havana Club for a few hours and am filled with the joy of the universe there are a few plus points in this mad fuckup of an idea.
1) It's not difficult to play MA bass lines. I remember playing a few songs for a band at short notice like Somebody Get Me A Doctor(with all it's key changes) a week after picking up a bass and passing with flying colors.
2) Maybe on a tour EVH will not get completely fucked up in front of his kid. Maybe it will insipire him not to make a fucking fool of himself like he did on the last tour.
3) Is it maybe true that part of the uniqueness of CVH was that MA could sing so high? Who better to replicate that than a kid whose balls haven't dropped?
4) No MA bass solo.
5) It will annoy Sammy Hagar.

Van Halen has finally found its new bassist -- and it looks like the rock gods are keeping the band a family affair.
TMZ is first to confirm that Van Halen has hired 15-year-old Wolfgang Van Halen -- the son of guitarist Eddie Van Halen and estranged wife Valerie Bertinelli, and nephew of drummer Alex Van Halen -- as the new bassist for the band.
Wolfgang replaces longtime bassist Michael Anthony, who left the band earlier this year. Eddie Van Halen's spokesperson Janie Liszewski tells TMZ that Wolfgang, known as "Wolfie," has already joined his dad and uncle for rehearsals in the studio for a 2007 summer tour. Wolfie played dates with his father during the band's 2004 tour, and the song "316" on 1991's "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge," was named for Wolfie's birth date that same year.
The band is still without a lead singer, despite rumors that David Lee Roth might rejoin.
"It's just not an option for me to go and watch some other band — who are only performing because they have some new record coming out — do our music," Roth said. "I have nothing against Velvet Revolver — I'm not familiar with their music — but that was my 3 minutes and 22 seconds up there."
