VH Hiring ROTH for Tour 2007 as "Contract Employee"

I know the Tour is actually happening, but whether or not ROTH is in full agreement as a "Contract" employee - this remains a mystery. It would be pathetic if Wolfie makes more cash than ROTH, but knowing Ed, he will negotiate the contract in his son's favor (probably this is Ed's way of making up to Wolfie, the college tuition that Ed dried up with his investment in Smoking Loon and the Porn Industry).

what's your thoughts on this article, besides it being in the Rumor Mill?

It's Fuckin ridiculous if they have to get lawyers involved to negotiate contracts and all this other shit.It's not coming from the Hungry musicians that they once were it's all about buissness and that sucks.And do it right or don't do it at all get BassPlayer back in.We have been waitin 22 years for this don't screw it up.You can't blame Bassplayer for playin with sammy or who ever else all he wants to do is play what was he supposed to do wait for EVH to get his act together? I never would blame Michael. He just wants to play music. Since the sisters aren't, he joined Sammy. If VH was still playing, he wouldn't have ever gone near Sam. As for Dave an "employee" of Eddie Van Halen? FUCK THAT! No true fan wants to see David Lee Roth walking on egg shells for a summer so as to not piss off his boss and negate his contract with some bullshit loophole crazy Ed has in there. Too many rumors and shit being spilled all over. I wont's make any or bet anything on what is getting said, until it is said by the band itself, and that includes anything about Mike not being involved.

Now my opinion on this matter stands like this. Ed and AL knows, that if Dave is in, nobody will accept VH unless it's with the classic lineup. Sure ED stated that his son was the new bass player, but i brlieve the reason why everything to this point is still so undercover, is because, the promotors and the Money people are trying to push for Mike to be involved.

VH will get inducted this yr. and you know Mike will be there. I think there is alot of negotiations going on, with how they will split the money and all that type of stuff. It's kindof like the Kiss thing with Gene and Paul holding the rights to Kiss, and Ace and Peter getting somewhat of a cut from the take.

I do believe when it is all said and done, the origional four will be up on stage for a tour and then you will see The Van Halen's doing something after that.

When a band who's been around as long as VH, gets to this time in their career, it's very hard to stay and play with what and who you started out with. I do think when it's said and done, the origional guys will be friends to do more tours and a few new albums, just my take on it though.

Where I work contract workers get paid much more than full-time employees. As a contract employee Dave has most of the power. Demand 500k a show or tell them to shove it and to tour with SPAMmy or GAYry. Who the fuck cares who the full-time members are. This band has made shitty manager choices, who have screwed them out of back catalog royalties, and probably significant revenues. Dave would be better off being a hired gun, with his own separate management, in an effort to avoid any inevitable VH disasters.

Look, if The Bass Player gets out from under Spammy for the tour, split it 4 ways, it's not that complicated. If The Bass Player chooses to stay with The Red Lobster, then split it 3 ways. Wolfboy should be the one who is a paid empoyee.

Edster needs to keep in mind that if you don't have Dave, you don't have VH, saucey or not. Dave is in a position of strength here, he's what everyone wants. Whats Edster going to do, bring back Cherone? Yeah, that sounds as appealing as hearing up for breakfast.

First of all, Dave was a contract employee back in '96. He made a salary for public appearances, for his contributions to the Best Of collection, for his appearance in the video-that-never-happened.

He may see more IMMEDIATE money as a contract employee but he would most probably never see residuals: videos, tour merchandise, even having a voice in what that merch is or anything else. he would also probably have to settloe even in terms ogf his tour rider and accomodations, dressing room, hotel, transport, etc.

Also, like with MA on the last tour, they would probably look for a way to LOWER Dave's % on back record royalties.

He would undeniably see a great payday, but if he is at all concerned with legacy and residuals, it's going to be a VERY, VERY rough negotiation process.

"Humala Bumbala boobla bop" - as you put it - went platinum (as did the next few solo releases), dimwit, and still gets media play far and wide - unlike the now moldy cheese whiz that Hagar brought to the band.

It is also a very safe bet that Roth has maintained and grown more bank to date than any of the original four. Despite any big spender imaging, Dave has always been fairly frugal and smart with his dough - unlike Ed and Al.
