    Pedal advice...

I'm taking guitar lessons, and we're starting to move into basic blues leads.... we're also working on palm muting and a few easy metal sounds.

I was wondering which pedal I should get to sound badass.

I was looking at BOSS MT-2 Metal Zone Pedal.

Thoughts? Advice? My guitar teacher recommends that I update my guitar in 6 months (he thinks my progress is fast)

I'll check it out. Obviously, I'm not buying anything without hearing it.

Get a Boss-pedal. You can never go wrong with those... many to choose from, but for high gain: Mega Distortion or Metal Zone. For more classic rocksounds: Super Overdrive, Overdrive or Distortion.
For various sounds, the ME-50 is great and easy to use.

Fender 15R... I'm not a rockstar yet so I don't need anything more.

I ended up getting the Metal Zone. Now, I'm trying to find the perfect sound.

It's not as if Digitech doesn't make a few cool things (the Whammy Pedal and Multi-Chorus spring to mind) that's just not one of them.

You should be able to have fun with the Metal Zone, though. I suggest you run your 15r clean and then just dial in what you want with the pedal...it'll certainly do while you're learning....good luck!

    Thanks dude!

I can't wait to see what my guitar teacher thinks on Thursday.... he's pretty insane too, so he'll probably be able to show me some rad things on the pedal.

I wanted to buy both the MT 2 and the Phase shifter, but I didn't want to spend 200 dollars on stuff that I can't even take advantage of yet.

I dunno if this will help but I'll just tell you the pedals that I've now owned for almost two decades and they still are great. P have two DOD's and one BOSS. Back in the day, DOD's were the cheapest and most affordable. But heck, mine have held up great over the years.

I have an old DOD "Stereo Chorus" pedal along with a DOD "Flanger." Keep in mind I bought these circa 1988 or 89? I also have a BOSS "Heavy Metal" pedal that I use when I play my Strat through my Marshall. That pedal is also older than dirt but gives a great sound for my Strat's single coils, again, through my Marshall.

I wouldn't even know where to begin looking now cos my style's pretty basic and I don't need a lot of effects for what I play. Still, toys are fun though and I pull some amazing shit off with that chorus pedal.

You still can't go wrong with an Ibanez Tube Screamer. If you are practicing blues it's perfect!

You have to have a DOD 250 overdrive as well. It simply pushes the amp and adds a little gain but doesn't color the sound too much. I use it with other distortion peddles and fuzz peddles.

The Boss DS-1 does a good job too.

I would still go with the Ibanez Tube Screamer for my first peddle. They sound good with a lot of guitars and amps.
No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!

My experience with peddles is they work better with tube amps. I have a little Fender Frontman amp and it's got all the balls it needs. It's got a ton of gain as is. I just dime the thing hard with my 72 Strat and I get all sorts of Hendrix shit happening and that little bugger is plenty loud too. Oh, it sounds like transistors but for transistors, not bad. LOL!

I would get an EQ Peddle. I use the MXR 6 band one but a Boss is good too. Ebay always has a ton for sale.

That way you can round your sound out. If you want more gain in your little amp, I would use a DOD 250 overdrive.

Unless you are gigging you might look into getting a Line 6 POD. That will give you a ton of sounds and they are great for home practice.

You might think this is rediculous, but I tried out the Boss Blues Driver and it turned out to play pretty well. I wouldn't use it for heavy metal but it seems appropriate for Hair Metal. You get ALOT of overdrive from the little booger and a whole lot of tone. I'll play it some more to see what I can get from it.

I'll bet we both have exactly the same model. Is your's black with orange lettering? Great effect. Especially when I need that boost whilst playing my stock '83 Strat through my Marshall. Gives the single coil in the bridge position a nice kick!!!
